After realizing I had not checked the mail, I took a walk yesterday evening!  I should have taken my camara and prayed for good pics!

Jacob went with me.  It was cold and crisp.  A nice Texan winter day!  Our house sits low so I am unable to see a sunset from our home.  As we walked yesterday I could see the last traces of the sunset up in the branches of the trees.  With winter here and the leaves gone it was so beautiful to see the light lavender contrast against the dark empty branches in the night sky.   Jacob and I stopped for a moment to listen to the owl and to enjoy the moon over us.

As I walked up to the house, I wanted to embrace the scene.  My house was lit up and reminded me of candles in the dark.  Our house is dark, so with the lights on at night, all you really see are the lights glowing.  I felt like our home was a candle by the lake.

And speaking of candles--I have really enjoyed lighting them!  I bought a candle warmer and right now I have a Yankee peppermint candle on there!  It smells so nice!  My other favorite candles are "fresh snow" which was a seasonal candle from Wal-Mart.  I have two boxes of their candle sets as well as a few extras I received in my stocking because my mom knew how much I like them.  Yesterday I went through the house and lit the candles!

We have flipped our bedroom and living room.  We now sleep in the room with all the windows!!  I am adjusting but I do like it!  I have candles on my window sill.  My husband does not care for candles, but he may need to get over himself!  LOL  He doesn't "hate" candles, but he always asks me if I am calling the dead!  *sigh*  MEN!

We are adjusting to our cozy little living room and I enjoy having the computers in the living room instead of my bedroom!  I no longer feel like my bedroom is an office with a bed!  I now feel like I have a real bedroom and our living room is more like an entertainment center!

Well I need to mosey on!  I have a new blog about my years goals if you care to read!  www.xanga.com/threehundredsixtyfivedays

I am still around, but as you can imagine Christmas came charging through and left us very busy!  Today will be the first day I have NOT been to my father's house in about 2wks or so!

Today is my twin's 12th birthday!  Man how time flies!!  I may blog about them at my other blog!

And speaking of blogs--I have a new blog I will begin posting on Jan. 1.....come check it out!!  www.xanga.com/threehundredsixtyfivedays

For Christmas I gave out soap petals!  Let me just say SIMPLE and EASY and AWESOME!

Buy some fake flowers, cut off the petals.  Buy some glycerin and melt (can be found at hobby stores)  Add fragrance if desired.  Drop petals into melted soap, use tweezers or whatever to pull out.  Drape petals over wax paper which has been accoridan folded.  Let them set (they set QUICK!)  Then place into containers.

To use:  grab a petal, wash hands with it--throw petal away!

I found some great plastic cups to put our petals in to give out as gifts!

I will try and post more here!

Oh next project around the house:  swapping my bedroom for the living room!  We are going to move the living room stuff into my bedroom and my bedroom into the living room!!  I can't wait--I look forward to having a bedroom with out computers or people walking through!

Life has been crazy so sorry for not posting.

We are currently getting ready for Thanksgiving.  I have a ham and turkey waiting for me to cook as well as some sweet potatoes.  The rest of the family is providing the rest.  Oh I also have stuffing/dressing as well. And least I not forget Chocolate cake with 3/4 of it frosted (my cousin does not eat frosting--well she does home made, but I don't feel industrious)  And the frosting reminded me, I picked up a beginning Wilton cake decorating set, a leaf cookie cutter and some autumn frosting coloring stuff to make sugar cookie leaves.  I guess I do have a lot to do!!

Yesterday I worked on my kitchen.  I felt as if part of it was too cluttered so I declutterd and rearranged my pantry.  It is much nicer now!

I am also moving some of my decorations around.  I don't like where I hung some items when we first moved in.  I can't wait to see how it looks when I am finished!

Okay--heading back home now (at the library!)

A New Recipe

I just made these for breakfast and it was a hit!!

Buttons and Bowknots

2 c Bisquick

2 tbsp sugar

1 tsp nutmeg

1/8 tsp cinnamon

1/3 c milk

1 egg

1/4 c butter or margarine, melted

1/2 c sugar

Heat oven to 400 degrees.  Mix thoroughly Bisquick, 2 tbsp sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, milk and egg.  Beat vigorously 20 strokes.

Round up dough on lightly floured cloth covered board, knead 5 time.  Roll 1/2in thick, cut with floured doughnut cutter.

To make bowknots, hold opposit sides of each ring with fingers and twist to form figure 8.  Place holes (buttons) and Bowknots on ungreased baking sheet.  Bake 8-10 min.  Immediately after baking, dip each button and bowknot into melted butter and then sugar.

Now for my version of the same recipe:

I did not have Bisquick so I used some pancake mix I had left over.  I did add a bit more shortening to it as well as a smidge of baking powder.  You can look online for Bisquick recipes.

I simply used a glass to cut out my circles and then used a knife to slash through the center.  Then I grasped each side and turned the circle (the slash was in the center) into the figure 8, it is basically a flip of the wrists....  We had no buttons, because we had no holes.

Oh and I did not have nutmeg so I added some ginger.  The children loved them!!  Leave questions in the comments and I will see what I can do!

Another day

After driving around today, my hands are killing me!  I didn't know running a tiller could do so much to my poor hands!  Oddly enough though, I am looking forward to going out there and tilling more.  Hopefully tomorrow I can get some more work done.

Today we are in because Jacob has Young Marines.  I hit some garage sales this morning.  I had $7 to spend.  The first sale I visited was the best!  EVERYTHING was free.  It was a clothing give away.  I went in and picked out some things.  I picked up 3 suits for the boys, but I am not sure any of the suits will fit any of the boys.  I can always give them away if they don't.  I found a nice heavy coat for Lynsie as well as some sweaters.  I also found a pair of shoes (Nike) for Jacob.  I have a trunk full!

I also picked up a couple of other goodies at a garage sale or two, but nothing outstanding.  I did live my name and number at one sale for a lady who had 3 bikes for sale ($40 or $30) with helmets. I would love to buy all three for my boys! They were nice looking bikes.

The other day we walking in the pasture looking at the persimmons and pecans. I did not see any pecans but I have TONS of persimmons.  I can not wait to make jelly/jam out of them!  However, word to the wise, do not eat them unless they are ripe.  Your mouth will literally go numb, as will your tongue and throat.  Please don't ask me how I know! Ha Ha!

We visited with my friend yesterday (who happens to be an author as well!!  How cool is that?? She writes science and math books!)  The children had a ball, and she and her husband were so kind to us.  She sent home some goodies with us as well.  Which was  a wonderful blessing!

Well off to surf the web a bit while I am killing time at the library.

I do have pictures to put up here, but I forgot my receipt so it will probably be NEXT Saturday before I get them up.  I have a whole posting on spending a frugal day--for the pictures.

Tired Today

I have had a nice day of working out!  I borrowed my dad's tiller and tilled my little heart out today.  I am only about 1/3 finished.  I planned out my garden area and got busy tilling.  While I was working--mindless really (things such as mowing and hanging out laundry etc..really make it nice to let your brain wonder!)  I decided to make my garden much larger and sell my extra.  I also want to be able to supply food for the year for my family.  I am pretty excited about the future!  However my hands are covered in blisters.  I didn't let the tiller do the work--I did too much of it myself!

I will type more later, but currently I am trying to figure out about 4 things at one time--and it's not working!! *big grin*
