Justified by His Grace

But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.

He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

Titus 3:4-7 KJV

Romans 12
King James Bible

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
 4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: 5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
 7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
 8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
 10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
 11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
 13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.

14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
 16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.
 17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
 18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
 19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
 20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Feeling Dry?

"Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!

Come, buy wine and milk without
money and without cost.

Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?

Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.

Give ear and come to me; hear me,
that your soul may live.

I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
my faithful love promised to David.

Isaiah 55:1-2 NIV

VERSE:
   If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
    -- Galatians 5:25

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Galatians+5:25&translation=kjv

THOUGHT:
   It is one thing to talk about being filled with the Spirit; it
is quite another to live under the Spirit's control and direction
in our lives. Paul is reminding us that we must do more than talk
the talk; we must walk the walk. The Holy Spirit must guide our
decisions, determine our morality, and control our speech. His
fruit -- love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control -- must be in evidence.
Paul says to Christians filled with the Spirit, "Live like it!"

PRAYER:
   Holy God, thank you for your gift of your Spirit, who is alive
in me. May your Spirit guide my thoughts and mold me to be like
Jesus in words and deeds. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

can we not make it our passion?

PRAYER:
   Father, I know that you hold the day of Jesus' return in your

The Book of Books
Acts 17:10-12

Scripture provides an accurate account of the heavenly Father's character, actions, and purposes. Together, the Old and New Testaments teach us that man's problem is sin and the only remedy is faith in the Son of God: Jesus Christ. Through the Bible, we learn what happens at the moment of our salvation: our sin's penalty is reckoned as paid, its power over us is broken, and the Holy Spirit becomes our daily companion.

Through His Word, God has entrusted to us the knowledge of who He is, what He is doing, and how the future will unfold for mankind. The Scriptures were intended to lead us into a growing personal relationship with the Father and to empower us for fruitful service as Christ's ambassadors (2 Cor. 5:20). In this position, we are called to follow Jesus' example in glorifying God (Matt. 5:16)--our Savior focused not on Himself but on the heavenly Father, whose plan is to reach the entire world with His saving grace.

The Father's will includes certain tasks for each of His children to accomplish (Eph. 2:10). In meditating on scriptural principles and examples, we'll be able to discern what He has in mind for us. Just as Jesus' work was to do His Father's will, that is our calling as well.

What place does this Book of books--the Bible--have in determining the course of your life? Take time today and every day to listen to the Lord, to partake of His wisdom, and to determine what He is saying to you personally. In so doing, you will orient your mind to His priorities and thinking.

VERSE:
   Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

    -- Philippians 4:5

http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Philippians+4:5&translation=kjv

THOUGHT:
   Extravagant over-reaction! That's what we're programmed to seek
and to display in our modern world of sound bytes and over-hyped
personality. But gentleness, that moderating grace in the midst of
chaos and conflict, is so vital to bring the peace of God to
conflict-laden churches, families, and relationships. How can we be
gentle, how can we restrain from over-reacting to the wounds,
offenses, and slights that come our way? The Lord is near! He is
our vindication. He is our example. He is our comfort. He is our
hope. He is our strength. He is near. We are not alone and our
destiny, reputation, and value are not up to us to establish or to
defend.

PRAYER:
   O LORD, my Father God, please be ever near me as I seek to be
your person of character in the middle of the chaos and conflict
around me. I ask that your presence be made known and that my
character reflect that presence in all that I do and say today, and
each day that follows. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

A Nation's Need
2 Chronicles 7:11-22

If you received a call that someone you loved was stricken with a serious illness, you would not whisper a quick, "Bless her, Lord" and move on. No! You would fall to your knees--heart heavy in your chest--pleading with God to restore her health. We should respond similarly when our country's "health" is compromised: we should pray as fervently for our land and her leaders as we would for a dangerously ill friend.

King Solomon was warned of the peril to his nation if the people ceased honoring the Lord. God explained what Israel was to do in such a state of turmoil. First, the people were to humbly admit their need for the Lord's intervention. Second, they were expected to cry out to Him from hearts burdened for the country's situation. And third, those seeking a renewal of God's blessing upon Israel were to undergo a time of personal confession and repentance.

The Lord's word to Israel contains principles that are also relevant for us in modern times. "Those who are called by His name"--in other words, the body of believers--have a duty to intercede on behalf of their country when it is ailing. Christians who want God to hear prayers, forgive national sins, and heal their homeland are wise to follow the steps He laid out to Solomon.

Your nation needs your prayers. As you become aware of unhealthy trends and decisions, start with a personal heart cleansing: confess and repent of any known sin (1 John 1:9). Then cry out to our heavenly Father for the return of a vibrant, God-fearing culture.

2 Chronicles 7     Read This Chapter
7:11
Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king's house: and all that came into Solomon's heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.
7:12
And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.
7:13
If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;
7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
7:15
Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
7:16
For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
7:17
And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my judgments;
7:18
Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.
7:19
But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;
7:20
Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.
7:21
And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and unto this house?
7:22
And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.

The King James Version (Authorized)

The Price of Prayerlessness
Isaiah 40:28-31

The heavenly Father wants His children talking with Him. Jesus gave an invitation to speak with God about anything. He said that if you have a need, ask; if you seek answers, you will find them; if you want opportunities to open up, knock and He will respond (Matt. 7:7-8). Even so, there are believers who do not bother communicating with the Lord, except in emergencies.

Forsaking prayer is costly to a person's well-being. Those who will not make time for God daily are on a slippery slope. They slide through weariness, discouragement, and doubt to land in a testimony-damaging situation. Today we will focus on the first phase--weariness. Tomorrow we can examine the rest of the descent.

Certain situations take an emotional, physical, and spiritual toll--we call these burdens. Such low points can wear us out if we try to endure them alone. But God does not intend for that weight to fall on our shoulders. In fact, the Bible commands that those loads be cast upon Jesus Christ (Ps. 55:22). "Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden," cries David in Psalm 68:19. Remember, He is doing all the work to straighten out your circumstances anyway. So there's no point in both Him and you carrying that weight.

Hauling all our worries and cares around is wearying because we are not built for such loads. In God's design, His strength fills the believer to capacity. Picture Jesus' shoulders just above your own--with Him bearing your problems. The burden does not disappear, but it feels blessedly lighter when you hand it over to the Lord.
