OLD GERMAN COOKIE RECIPE
4 lg. eggs
1 (1 lb.) box of powdered sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
4 c. sifted flour
Anise oil or seed
Beat eggs until thick and light. Gradually add the box of powdered
sugar. Beat 15 minutes more (important to dissolve sugar). Fold in
flour and baking powder. Chill several hours. Lightly flour board
with cake flour and roll out about 1/4 piece of dough to 1/4 inch
thick. Work it until it is smooth. After rolling it about the
width of the springerle roller it should be 1/8 inch thick. Cut
cookies in squares and put on board or cookie sheets to dry
overnight. May sprinkle the seeds on the board before placing the
cookies on the board or you may add the seeds of oil to the cookie
dough. Next morning place the cookies on a lightly greased cookie
sheet. Bake at 325 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. They keep well in
a closed container. May also freeze. |
