This was in the OLD FASHIONED LIVING newsletter to day. I remember these from when I was a child. I think the one for the wedding is a truly great idea.
We have poundings all the time and you are right, generally people give a pound of food or paper products and the church stewards collect it all together for whomever we are giving it to- generally new pastors or someone in need in the church that are having financial difficulties, etc. Of course, if a person felt like giving more than 1 pound of something, that was alright, but it was the minimum amount that people could give. ~Rush'd Lady
My son got married last month, and he and his new bride had one of these showers. The way it was done for them is that each person that came to the shower brought the stuff to make a meal...like an Italian night, etc. My new daughter-in-law has a few nieces and nephews that she baby sits for and their mother fixed a large colander with the different boxes of mac 'n cheese. It was so cute. The bride and her stepsister love smore's, so the stepsister brought the makings for smore's as her gift. All of the stuff filled up their pantry, they only had to buy the meat and produce that would go with each meal. And to cover that they received gift cards from grocery stores and Wal Mart. It was a fun time for all. ~Sheliah
Before Thanksgiving every year our church will prepare pounding slips. A basket is prepared with slips of paper and on each paper is a grocery item. Each family will draw one or several pounding slips (depending upon their desire to help), the items are purchased and brought to the church several weeks before Thanksgiving. The baskets are then prepared with the pounding items and distributed to the elderly or needy in our congregation. ~Leah
