One of my Christmas gifts this year was a Ped Egg. It was given to me by my wonderful daughter. She put together a beautiful gift basket of different lotions, brushes, powder, soaps, and this great gadget. I waited a day or two before I had time to use it. But I finally used it and I just have to tell you all that it is fantastic. I have always had bad feet because I love running around bare foot and we all know that isn't very good for our little tootsies. My heels were almost always dry and cracked, and most times I was embarrased to wear sandles or backless shoes. Well not anymore. This wonderful little invention has cured all of that. I'm telling you ladies, its fantastic. A friend of mine has one and I watched her use it on herself and to be honest it kinda grossed my out at first, you know, dead skin and all, lol. But it really works. So next time your at the store and you pass by this item, and you have problem feet, pick this up. It is one of the best buys for your $10. This not a commercial and I'm not being paid for this, LOL it's just me wanting to share a good thing with friends. Just a few thoughtsWell the days are now being counting down until i have my surgery... I have to say i am starting to feel a little antsy.... I mean I know that i know i have to have this done but... I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO HAVE CHILDREN AGAIN.... I am sitting here and I have been crying on and off all night long.. Now my head understands that with all my other health issues i cant ever think of having another child.. I mean it could kill me.. Even if everything was perfect with my cancer issues.... Still i could not have anymore children.. But my heart breaks.. I always loved the feeling of carring that little ones.. To feel that little move, to hear there heart beat for the first time... I will never get to experience that again.. never... Medically i have to have this done.. There is NO choice... But my Heart .......................................
Please pray that God will give me peace in this.. glenda 2009 Direction
{ Posted by faithfarm }
This weekend we plan for our 2009 direction and rest. Well at least thats the plan-LOL. One thing that I have noticed about this lifestyle is there is always something that needs your time and attention. Taking rest days have to be intentional. They don't always happen the way you plan but if you don't 'take' the time you won't get it. The body needs rest and so does the Soul. I've read alot about setting goals-some for and some against----the way I look at it, it is more of setting a direction for the new year. Finding area's that need improvement, making plans for new things, reflecting on the accomplishments and failures of the past year, learning and growing. I find it most helpful and it keeps us focused. It's a time prayer and thankfulness. It's also a time to discover what is priority in each others minds for 2009. It is easy to say we need to do this or that as we go along but to find out what is most important in each others minds is the key. Take for example DH and I.....What is top priority in his mind is a larger farm truck and hay storage barn....in mine is a solar freezer and increased storage of household items and animal feed. These above all the other are whats important in our homestead thoughts. So out of the dozen or so goals for 2009 these things need to be at the top. Then there are the simple to accomplish things. These are the things like adding fruit bushes/trees, improving a milking stand, a needed tool.....easy to do items that improve your quality of life or meet a need. As fast as time goes by here on the farm it is important to take this time and reevaluate each others desires and homesteading goals as to keep your focus together and to build a lifestyle that everyone enjoys and finds peace in. Just my thoughts on the subject>Blessings>faithfarm

have a blessed night all glenda And down it comes again......yes, the snow is falling again. When is it going to stop? No one knows. And frankly I don't care...we are snuggled here nice at home with nowhere to go. Granted, it might not be quite as exciting for others who must venture out in such conditions. So accept my apologizes for the enthusiasm. But living here on the west coast, doesn't usually permit many days of low temperature that allows snow to fall...so it brings back memories of my childhood in Ontario where snow and winter fun go hand in hand. Some of my best memories are in the winter months of...cross country skiing....toboganning and snowmobiling...mom's homemade baking and hot chocolate after a long day outside. Now, it's my time for building memories with my children. And this December has brought many a "memory making moments"...wow, that's a tongue full of M's! Oh well...it had to be said that way. Yesterday started our year off with Anika who woke up with the Chicken pox....today she is covered with them. Poor girl is so itchy and high fever. But she still did the dishes (to surprise me) while Ethan and I went out to shovel the driveway. Great bonding time for mother and son. Not to mention a wonderful daughter with a self-less act of love. Speaking of shoveling...it has come to my attention through stars in the eyes, dizzy in the head, sweat running down the back, huffing and puffing.... that I am out of shape. Yes, that' right your's truly is majorly, horribly, terribly out of shape. Now, being the one NOT to make New Year's resolutions only because I never survive more than a day and resolutions and goals change for me like the wind. But having spoke of dizziness, I realize that at some point the message must come through and register in this head of mine that...."I Connie am out of shape". When one comes to terms with this, one must contemplate the realities of it all. And the reality that is yelling at me says I must do something about it. So, with that out in the open for everyone to read, there is only one conclusion...and that is, "I must spend 2009 getting into shape". This must be more than just a long term goal. It must be a life style goal and a goal that I work on daily. Because my personality is as such, I change goals or accomplish a simple goal and then must move on to other things quickly even if goals are not accomplished because they are too far in the future. Goals that seem long term for me fizzle out because I cannot live so far in the future through my mind....I can live only in the present and with each waking breath...and my present tells me that, " I'm to young to be this out of shape". So, possibly, probably or most definately, be prepared to read some of my ramblings on my blog in 2009 about the success and failures of each day. And yes, you might even read whinings and such as my body goes through a period of adjustment. But I will wake up every morning (Lord willing) with a renewed sense of "health thoughts" and I will direct my day as such. First and foremost, God comes first in my day, but God also gave me this "temple" and unfortunately, it's needs a major renovation. So, bring on the "sledge hammer". 2009Happy New Year Everyone! Another one has come and gone

{ 8:31 AM, Friday, January 2, 2009 } { Posted in Homestead Happenings } { 3 comments } { Link } Another year has come and gone, and I have to say, I'm kinda glad. I don't usually say that 'cuz with each passing year and/or day, I get a little older, but 2008 wasn't a banner year for me. The whole thing with mom's Alzheimers taking over her life poor heart and me having to put her in a home wasn't a good thing to say the least. Not too mention the hurricanes that hit us, the lost of several people in my life and last but not least, my husband wanting a divorce, well as I said, I'm glad it's over. I do hope and pray 2009 brings a much better outcome. I do see good things ahead for me if God willing. The last couple of days were busy ones for me. Not long ago my husband came home with two little pigs and on Tuesday we slaughtered one for a New Years gathering here at our home. So I have been getting ready for that, cooking and baking, and yesterday we had 27 people here for lots of good food and a good time. It didn't take as long to cook the little fellow as I thought it would. We put him on the rotisserie around 6:30 yesterday morning and it was done by noon. Pretty good. We still had lots of fire so I ran to the store and bought four chickens to cook. I figured I wouldn't have to cook for a couple of days. Well to my surprise, most of it all went. There is no chicken left, what didn't get eaten here was taken home by some family members. Not fair! LOL The guys are out fishing this morning so I will be working on school plans for the rest of the year. I do half in August and the other half now. This is just incase we get off schedule or Zach falls behind in something that we need to keep working with, which is the case in Math this time. So with that said, let me get off of here. I have a batch of clothes to put out on the line and one to fold, then off to the lesson plans. I do hope everyone had a wonderful New Years and that everyone HAS a great new year filled with blessings and prosperity. Ringing in the New Year

{ 06:51, Friday, January 2, 2009 } { Posted in Family Traditions } { 5 comments } { Link } Isn't it exciting how a new year seems to bring forth a clean new slate, all kinds of new possibilities are just waiting... everything seems a bit more doable. We/I feel that, "Yes, I Can" mentality. :) In all honesty we can feel that way all the time if we are believers in the Lord Jesus. He gives us all the hope that we can ever need. Our New Year's Eve was a lot of fun, somewhat quiet, but still very fun. The children and Shannon and I played games, had a new homemade pizza concoction I came up with, and ended up falling asleep before midnight... Shannon was the only one awake at exactly midnight because he wanted to get up and pray. I woke up 7 minutes later. :) Pretty close... Well, I am excited for the New Year. And as for resolutions.... one of mine is, to treat each day as a gift. That is of course why it is called The Present. :) Happy New Year my Friends, My Cup Runneth Over... A goal for this year 2009Hubby and I talked about ways to save money this year. One way we thought of was to save on our food bill. I love to save money on food , but I been lazy about it. We spend any where from $1000.00 to $1500.00 a month on food. So this area is a big one to save in. As is fast food. We are going to cut way back on that. No more well we feel like ???? and then go get it. We are going to make the Mexican food , Chinese, or make a good steak dinner. But we still will go out but with my coupons, I will tell about those another day. Because who knew you could get a $25.00 dinner for only $2.00?? I found out how. Some of it will still be high because of my food allergies. Wheat free foods cost more than normal ones. A box of Mac~n~cheese for me is about $4.00 a box. My bread is $4.99 a loaf. I can make my own and I do, but for toast and sandwiches I use the bought one. I am good about buying my bread though. We order it from the maker and get 3 cases at a time. So we are going to try keeping a budget of $100.00 a week. That is just for food not household things or animal food. Animal food is a another high bill. That bill is as much as our house payment. I am writing a menu out for the next two weeks. I am trying to use what we have in stock and also buy what we need and try to keep the stock up. Any advice would be great. God Bless, mj Emergency Water SupplyIt has often worried me that in the advent of an extended power outage we would be totally without water. We could make due in other areas. We could cook over a fire in our cast iron cookware or cook on the propane grill. We could build a fire in the fireplace for warmth or sit outside in the shade in summer to stay cool. But we have literally no way to get water. We are not near any above ground water sources and we have no windmill on our property. We might do fine with bottled water, but the animals drink a lot. One cow can drink about a bathtub full of water everyday. Not to mention the fact that bottled water could become scarce in an extended power outage. The situation could become serious quickly. To combat this, I have considered two possible solutions. One would be to have an electrician rig our well pump to run off of generator power. We have a 6000 watt generator that has more than powerful enough to run it. It's just that we currently have no way to connect it to the generator. I called an electrician out before Christmas for an estimate, but have not heard back from him yet. The second option would be to install a hand pump. Bison pumps has a deep well model that can pull water up from 200 feet. I'm fairly certain our well sits at about 75 feet. The best part is that it can use the same well shaft as your electric pump, so we could install it in our pumphouse beside our existing pump. It's also easily installable by the purchaser as long as they have a person to help them feed the sucker rods down into the well.
The hand pump would probably run us about $1500, but it would be a permanent solution. They require little mantainance, and from everything I can tell they are fairly easy to service or repair. I'll have to wait on the electrician's estimate to make my final decision. I may end up doing both. We'll just have to see. { Last Page } { Page 3 of 5 } { Next Page }
