~ At The Well ~

For this week's discussion, Natalie at I Am (not) is our host.  Our discussion question is the following:

"Do you have a vision for your family? If so, share it with us. If not, what do you think it would be?"

We actually have not had anything written down as far as a vision statement for our family.  However, because of this question being our discussion this week, we actually discussed some things we want for our family.  Really, we've had a vision just not in writing.  So, I put some things down in writing.  Here's what we have down on paper so far:

To be students of God’s Word and apply His Word to our lives.

To walk our faith not just talk our faith.

To walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, producing the fruit of the Spirit.

With God’s help, to walk and live in love.

To speak words of life that promote peace and healing. To not be people who speak negatively and constantly complain.

To carry out the Great Commission in whatever sphere of influence God puts us in by lifestyle evangelism and by seizing each opportunity God wants to use us in for sharing our faith and what God has done in, for, and through us.

To cultivate a thankful heart and attitude.

To know what we believe and why we believe it. Simply knowing what we believe is not enough. I spent a good bit of my life knowing what our family believed but never really questioned why I believed it. Once I began figuring out what I believed and why I believed it, I began owning my own faith instead of having my family’s faith.

I'm sure there are more things we could put down.  But this is what we have on paper right now.  I want to say a few things about the first two.  The very first one is really a foundational one:  To be students of God’s Word and apply His Word to our lives.  If we are trying to live by God's Word, then we will be continually trying to carry out the principles it contains such as a thankful heart, walking in love, etc.  I am a big person on being a student of the Word.  There are some who may say they just aren't students so they don't study the Bible.  You don't have to be a scholarly person to study the Bible!  Just open it up, have you a good concordance and Bible dictionary (I have some I highly recommend), and ask God to show you His Truth.  God can speak to you through His Word!  It's amazing!!!

The second one listed above:  To walk our faith not just talk our faith  - is also something vitally important to us.  As parents, we want to live consistently with what we say we believe.  We want our children to do the same.  We want to put shoes on what we talk and walk out our beliefs.  I am convinced that this is something a person will continually work on because we are continually being molded and shaped by God.

All that we have listed are extremely important to us.  We desire that we all, as a family and as individuals, make a difference for Christ and let Christ's light shine brightly in and through us.

Karen,

I really enjoyed your post, and I'm looking for perusing your blog. I'm wondering if you've ever posted on being a PK. (Did I understand that right from your profile that you were a PK?) I didn't grow up in the church, but I'm married to a preacher (and have 4 kids). I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter. If you've already posted on it, then I'm sure I'll find it.

Blessings,
Dena

I guess I'm just looking for insight into things I may just not get. The top posts on my blog are the ones regarding what it's like to be a oreacher's wife, and I'm wondering what it's like to be a pk.. It sounds like you've been through it and yet you are still walking with the Lord. Is there anything you wish your parents had known or understood? Or any perspective they had or you wished they'd had that might have made being a PK easier?

Thanks!

~ All About Me ~

I grew up in a ministry family. The daughter of a preacher, I definitely fit the typical mold of a preacher’s kid. I have had many life experiences including being a pregnant teen and single mom, experiencing divorce, and more. All of my life experiences, good and bad, have molded me into the person I am today. I have an intense desire to see women live in the freedom Christ came to give them. I myself know the prison of bondage and the liberation of Christ.
