Sometimes we just do things without thinking... like weeding...

We met Brielle on Thursday which was really awesome. I will have pictures of meeting her at The Daily Planet tomorrow. But right now there is a contest that Paulie and I are heading up. Go over to see there now and see!!

We got home from meeting Brielle and checked email, talked to a few people over IM, and kinda rested for a bit, well except when I went flying... yeah, Dad was moving some huge tree trunks and he was trying to put them on a trailer, but couldn't get the trailer to hook to the hitch because the trailer was in the air. So Mom, Jocelyn, and I had to push the trailer down. We had a hard time getting it down, and as I was pushing on the hitch with all my might, it was still in the air and I kept going up with it. I of course couldn't stop laughing for the life of me. It was funny, cause we couldn't get it down. So anyway, I was trying to push this trailer down, and it wouldn't, so I kept going up in the air. LOL!! The only problem was I didn't have my cape, and I am afraid of heights, so yeah. But it was fun anyway. But I finally got the hitch on the van and everything was ok. LOL!!

After that, I went in and changed my clothes and went outside. I don't know what I was thinking I was doing. It is funny to me how sometimes I just do something without making a decision on whether I am really going to do whatever it is that I am thinking about doing. Mom had been asking us for a few days to get out to the garden for a hour or so and we just couldn't get out there. So I finally just went outside. I was deciding on going out to the horse stalls and cleaning them before it got too late. But I just kinda walked out to the garden and just started attacking the weeds. I weeded 4 rows and they were really weedy. I weeded the okra, zucchini, and 2 rows of peppers. Hannah and Isaac helped me too. Then we picked some peppers, 'cause the plants were really drooping from the weight of them. We picked alot of those. I then went around the garden to see what else I could harvest... not much yet. We have some broccoli heads that are pretty big, and we have been harvesting lettuce for a while now. It is pretty good. Not at crunchy as the store bought, but I know it is alot healthier.

That is all I think we have gotten so far, but we have veggies growing and will be able to pick them soon.

So today, Dad decided we were going to have a weeding pullin’ party. He had everyone go out to the garden and weed. We got most of it weeded too. We were out there for about 3 hours. I HATE weeding. It’s just a pain. But Dad had gotten the old Selah tape we had and put it in, so it wasn’t so bad, I guess. I love the hymns they sing. The hymns they picked to sing are just so wonderful. Most of them are my favorite.

We weeded most of the garden. It is a big garden too, so just imagine how much we got weeded!! It seems as if the weed are the best growers we got now. They were massive. HUGE!! The roots on those are just crazy.

Towards the end of weeding Cabe found a toad or two. It was so hilarious to watch him try and catch them. We caught them for him, but when we went to give it to him, he wouldn’t cup it so it didn’t get away. He just held his hand out and let it jump off. He was so happy. He was laughing his head off. It was so cute. Then he wanted to fill his little pool, so he could play in it, and it was so funny because of the way he was filling it. He had a plastic bowl that he was filling up with water from the hole in the hose. He didn't get it too full. LOL!! He is so adorable!!

Hmm... that is pretty much all that has been going on at our homestead.

Dad was on vacation this week and did a lot of stuff. I am soo happy. I think things are going to change around here in many aspects. THANK GOD!!

The girls haven't been able to get out much, because we don't have any grass. They ate it all. It looks like the pasture went to boot camp and had to get its head buzzed. LOL!! But it has rained for the past 3 days, so the grass should grow in a jiffy and then they can get out. I actually just let them out today. I was supposed to let them out earlier, but we went out to the garden, then came in and got cleaned up and kinda rested, so I forgot to let them out. But they are out now and are happy. They have been pretty good. I keep wishing I could saddle them up and get on them and ride. But I know I can't and I just need to be patient. They are a lot better now than a few months ago. I think they have finally figured out I am the lead mare. Thank God. I can fight humans, but horses are another story!! LOL!! I am not really scared of them anymore. It is really nice. Of course, Luke was really afraid they would kick him when he was here last time. But Paulie was all like walking up to them, petting them, talking to them. It was really awesome. They actually liked him too, which is a shocker, 'cause they don't like guys. Yeah, when Luke and Paulie were here last time, I showed them the girls' tails. They didn't know that there was actually bone in them. I didn't either, til I got them and was brushing out their tails. It was a weird experience at first.

Tomorrow is Isaac's 4th birthday. WOW!! I can't believe it. Time flies. Of course, I was looking at my calendar and last Wednesday was 100 days til my 18th birthday. Mom is mad. LOL!! I am not sure what we will be doing for Isaac’s bday. I want to go to the zoo, but I don’t think that will happen. Oh well. I like the zoo. Our zoo just got a new shark exhibit. OOOHHH!!

Anyway, it's been a pretty good week. I think this has to be one of the best vacations we may have had!!

Make sure to go over to The Voice of Experience for this week's The Homesteading Carnival. Eric has got some great entries this week!!

Head's up!

Posted by Jonash2004
Just so that you know . . . horses tend to jerk grass up by the roots. Cows, goats, and sheep don't do this.

But this is why horses are so hard on grass.

Don't expect your grass to make a fast comeback unless they are off of it a vast majority of the time!
