What Happened In The Year 2008I am seriously having a hard time grasping that it is the year 2009. Anyone else? 2008 was a very short year, yet it was full of beginnings, endings, hurt, joy, and everything else! God was definitely working and moving in my life and I am thankful for 2008 and everything I learned, did, grew in, everything! Both the good and bad because God was right there with me!I *try* to keep a record of special things that happen throughout the year and I put it in my left sidebar, and had to update that stuff now that 2008 is over! I redid my bookshelf list, goals list, and happenings list. So its a new year now *eyes pop out* and I thought I would do a Happenings of 2008 to reflect on and share with you! So here is SuperAngel's 2008 Year In Review *January 6th Moved SuperAngelsblog.com to our server.WOW! what a year! While it is sad to me that yet another year has passed, I am so excited about 2009! I am really looking forward to filling up the Happenings of 2009! I have a feeling that God is going to some AMAZING AWESOME things in my life! I cannot wait! Living life with God is so great! So what about you? What things happened in your life; both the good and bad? When you post about the Happenings, link yourself up in the linky! Love, Prayers and Blessings, ![]() Thanks for stopping by “Daily” at the “Planet”!! ©AmandaDixon2008 Our New Year's CelebrationIt's hard to believe another year has begun! It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming in 2008 and here we are beginning 2009! Where has time flown? I remember when I was a young child it seemed like time passed so slowly....... I remember thinking it would be "forever" before my birthday or Christmas....... and now I find myself saying " wow, here it is again!" Know what I mean? Well we enjoyed a wonderful New Year's Eve celebration. Nothing fancy, just family, but none the less very fun! My sister sent us a huge package full of new games and it arrived on New Year's Eve!! Perfect timing! She is such a wonderful sister - she is very thoughtful and always sends the kids little cards and games, etc. I am blessed. We stayed up way too late...... ( I think I crawled into bed at 3 am!) and had fun playing all the new games, listening to music, dancing the conga and eating! Here are some snapshots of our fun evening........ this was taken right after our big huge box arrived! The kids were so excited! Look at all the fun fun games Auntie Teri sent!!
We decorated with streamers, party hats, and some noise makers. :) Some yummy snacks.........we had some sparkling cider to drink and toast with when 12 AM arrived!
Playing cards........Jacob, Rebekah, Samuel & Paul.....
Playing chines checkers.......rebekah, paul, rachel & jacob.......... haven't played chinese checkers in years!
The twins playing checkers........ Peter & Hannah playing "Connect Four"........
We have a tradition that on New Year's Eve the kids can eat the gingerbread houses we made earlier in the Christmas season........ it's something they really look forward to. :) Happy dancing kids..........
Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!
Something new we did this year, was we made a big list of all the things we were thankful for this past year........ here are some things that were shared : Paul : "I am thankful we don't have to pay the entrance fee to get to heaven -- Jesus did that for us because the price was too high for us to pay. " * Amen to that, Paul! Jesus did pay the complete price for eternal life with God! * Rebekah: "Our new wood stove that provides such warm heat!" * Rebekah loves to stand behind the crook of the stove......there a spot just behind the stove on the tile hearth that she really really enjoys.... we are really enjoying the radiant warmth of wood heat!* Rachel: " Freedom to worship"...... * Rachel is so right! There are 54 nations that Christianity is "illegal" and bibles are not allowed to be distrubuted or read. To read more about our brothers & sisters in Christ, who are being persecuted for Jesus go to www.persecutedchurch.org Jacob: " Homeschooling"........* Wow! I was suprised when Jacob shared that! Sometimes he complains about the reports I make him type up and all the math he has been doing lately......but I am happy to know he is thankful! Homeschooling is a way of life is so many ways, and our family will be beginning it's 11th year of home education! Peter: " Water, food & a roof over our head"...... * Amen, Peter! Children always remember the simple blessings that many times we adults take for granted. So many have no access to clean water or food. He knows that first hand from the expierences we tell him of his fellow Guatemalans who live in such dire circumstances. We are thankful for our food our clothing and a warm house to live in. Especially after expierencing a furnace break down in the cold winter!* Mom: " For the blessing of being able to pray & worship and also for trials"........ * This year has brought us close to the Lord in prayer and we have learned how to worship the Lord. I am also thankful for the many trials we were blessed to pass thru this year. They draw us ever so close to Jesus. * ___________________________________ I know for many of us this time of year is a time to reflect on the past year and to think ahead and make goals and resolutions for the coming New Year. Our family is no different. We have our "hopes" and "dreams" and "prayers to be asked and answered" for 2009. My heart's desire is to see my family wear out our bibles this coming year........ from continuous use........ for truly the Word of God is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path........... I also hope that our voices will be hoarse from all the praising and singing we are going to raise up to our great & everlasting God this year! I want to wear out our hands in serving the poor, the naked, the afflicted, those in prison and the fatherless and lonley.........for truly "when we do it to the least of these, we have done it unto Him"...... Oh I have so many hopes and dreams for this coming year! There are many loved ones in my life who do not know our precious Lord and my great hope is that their hearts will be open and their eyes opened to receive the gift of salvation thru Jesus. He is the way the truth and light and NO man cometh to the father but by Him! ( John 14:6) I hope that each one of you enjoy a blessed year, a year full of JOY in the Lord and a year full of blessings -- remember, trials and challenges are blessings "in disguise" ...... embrace each one of them! They are an opporotunity to draw close unto our Lord and really seek His face! I also look forward to another year of blogging here at HSB! This will be my 3rd year blogging here and I can honestly say this is a wonderful community! Each one of you are a blessing to me! Thanks also to my wonderful readers, who post publically and privately to me. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts here with me. You bless me in so many ways! May God bless you & yours in 2009! ~ gloria ~
VOTM Pray Day Friday![]() As you know I am a big supporter of The Voice of the Martyrs and I want to remember our persecuted brethren everyday which was the purpose of IDOP. I keep up with things that are going on with the persecuted through many of their outlets: the website, Prayer Update Emails, Twitter, the Blog and Facebook.
Since I receive their Prayer Updates on Friday I have decided I want to haave a VOM Friday Prayer Day. I will be sharing the week’s prayer requests for you to remember in your prayers, but if you would like to receive the updates in your inbox, you can sign up at VOMGroups. So this week’s prayer updates are: CHINA - 40 Christian Leaders Detained, 16 Sentenced to Administrative Detention - China Aid Association On Dec. 16, 40 pastors and house church leaders were detained at a Christian leaders gathering in Taoling village, Henan province, according to China Aid Association. Officials told the Christian leaders they needed to pay between a 1,000 to 2,00 yuan fine (US $11.20-$22.40). Some of the Christians were released after paying the fine. However, 16 leaders were sentenced to 10 to 15 days administrative detention for engaging in an "illegal religious gathering." Mr. Yan Linshan, the host of the meeting, received 10 days of administrative detention and a 1,000 yuan fine. Pray for the imprisoned Christian leaders. Ask God to encourage them and their families during this difficult time. Pray God protects Christians in China and for them to forgive their persecutors. Psalm 27:1 INDIA - Hindu Extremists Attack Christians in Karnataka - Compass Direct News On Dec. 14, Hindu extremists from the Bajrang Dal group attacked a Christmas program organized by the Helping Hands organization and accused the director of forcible conversion. Extremists disrupted the program which helps rural women and children, accusing Samuel Moses of trying to forcibly convert women and children. The extremists burned gospel literature and took Moses and his accountant to the Bangarapet police station. The Christians were detained in the police station for about nine hours, with the incident publicized on local broadcast and print media. The Christians were later released without charges. Police Inspector Chinnana Swami told Compass Direct that the Christians were detained for questioning, but police found no forcible conversion and the case has been closed. Praise God the Christians were released. Ask God to protect Christians in India who face intimidation and sometimes imprisonment because of their faith in Christ. Romans 8:31 VIETNAM - Authorities Destroy Church Building - Compass Direct News On Dec. 17, local government officials destroyed a new wooden church building built by Hmong Christians in Cu Hat village, Dak Lak province, Compass Direct News reported. A large contingent of government officials, police and demolition workers arrived at the church in the morning and destroyed it. Police with electric cattle prods beat hundreds of distraught Christians who rushed to the site to protect the building. Five people were injured in the attack, including a child who suffered a broken arm and a woman who was poked in the stomach with a cattle prod. Pray for those injured in this attack. Pray believers will be able to rebuild the church building. Romans 8:11 ![]() Make sure to stop by the Persecution Blog too for other updates on the persecuted. Click on the banner to link over! Read MoreCelebrating Hanukkah: An Old Festival & New TraditionThis year we celebrated the holidays differently than we have ever done. We celebrated Hanukkah. These past couple of months we have been studying and learning about Jewish culture and all their wonderful holidays and festivities. It has been neat to read about them because our Savior also celebrated them. One thing we gathered from learning and also from Scriptures is that we are only supposed to Remember Christ's death and resurrection. We are not called to remember His birth. The only reason to do anything with His birth is to remember the reason for His coming: salvation. Thus we do not celebrate Christ Mass. With the whole remembrance thing and that Christ Mass was designed by the Catholics to replace and take over the pagan Solstice, we decided we did not want to take part in it. So this year we celebrated Deliverance which is Hanukkah. This year we kinda just dipped our toes in to see what it was and why it was established. We are trying to celebrate our own traditions and not follow anyone else's. Hanukkah started on December 21st and went through December 29th. Monday: We read the Hanukkah story and learned why Hanukkah is celebrated. I gave the family a copy of Facing the Giants. Tuesday: We read the Scriptures and I gave the family a copy of Flywheel. Wednesday: Dad gave the family Worthy Is The Lamb from Nest Family Entertainment. I also gave Mama a Special Edition 10th Anniversary Pride and Prejudice Collectors set. Thursday: Dad gave the family He Is Risen from Nest Family Entertainment. Grandma gave us all hats and gloves. We learned to crochet and knit. Friday: Dad gave the family Pilgrim's Progress: Journey To Heaven. We then discussed the movie and Scriptures. Saturday: Dad gave the family The Kingdom of Heaven from Nest Family Entertainment. Sunday: I gave the family the Confronting Evolution Highlights from the Creation Seminar Series from Creation Science Evangelism by Dr. Kent Hovind. Thursday morning, er, noonish, when I got up it was a beautifully sunny day! I didn't have any work I could do on Vostro, so I went over to the couch and cuddled up under LillieGirl's BIP afghan... I was too lazy to go get my own! :P I asked Hanners to go up to my room and get the basket of yarn for me and a crocheting needle. Someone had had a ball of yarn out earlier in the week and was trying to learn to crochet. So I decided I wanted to learn. I had Grandma show me how to start and I couldn't get a dumb slipknot for the life of me! I finally got it and started on my first chain. I kept practicing that for awhile because I wanted to get it down before I started another one. After I got the first chain down pretty well, I looked up on youtube how to do the second chain.Let me tell you... it is so neat to learn something new! So I have been spending a bunch of time practicing crocheting, well the time I am not working on GGM or chores or work! :D It is pretty neat! I have quite a few projects I can't wait to get started on, but I will have to start them after the new year! See? I wear my hat ALL the TIME! :) Do you know how truly a wonderful blessing it is to have a Grandma living with in a 5mi radius of your home? Unless you live far away from them, I don't think you can know how truly blessed you are! I have LOVED LOVED LOVED having Grandma living with us! Even though she is in her own Shoppe, it is such a wonderful thing having her so close by! She is so awesome and I just LOVE her to death! Thursday morning she came over and taught us some crocheting things and knitting things and then when Mama got up and everyone was together we opened our gifts from her! We went from youngest to oldest, so by the third child we all knew what we were getting! ;) Although we all knew we were getting hats and gloves, we didn't know what they would be! When I first opened mine, I saw this: Seeing that I knew exactly what I had gotten: Aren't those just neat? I really like them! We really had a wonderful time learning, celebrating and giving to each other. I loved learning all the history behind Hanukkah and celebrating something that Jesus celebrated when He was human. I would really encourage you to look into and research the Jewish feasts and festivals because they are beautiful celebrations and really have meaning! I am looking forward to learning more about Jewish holidays and celebrating them in the coming year! Love, Prayers and Blessings, ![]() Thanks for stopping by “Daily” at the “Planet”!! ©AmandaDixon2008 Christmas Eve PictureHere's a picture our pastor took of us at church on Christmas Eve. (WOW! Do I need a haircut!!
If you would, PLEASE keep us in your prayers. Sunday was our last day at the church we have worshipped and served at for the past 12-1/2 years. It's a 70-mile round trip and we feel that the Lord is leading us to serve closer to home. We have a few churches 'on the list' to try, please pray that we will be sensitive to the Lord's leading and land where HE wants us. Thanks.
