God in the gardenI always say that gardening is very spiritual for me, I fell very close to God in the garden, close to how He planned for us to live, closer to His will...
It never ceases to amaze me how God blesses our efforts in gardening ~ after the insane amount of rain we have received this spring, and my garden being in a low lying part of the yard (last year for that ~ we are moving it!), a good portion of my plants were drowning...so... I ripped up and replanted my peas (they’ll have time to grow through again), and we are making a vain attempt replanting corn ~ that’s pretty iffy here…it may not make it...BUT… I’ve got tomatoes!!!! I was resigned to the fact that the tomatoes were a lost cause, but yesterday I spotted them, 3 so far in fact on the last romas I planted The tomato plants are greening up again (they had been purple-ish), so I think we have a shot after all, praise God, he brought the sun just in time! 3 tomatoes, I don't think I've ever been as happy seeing a tomato...lol. The broccolli and brussell sprouts are still a bit iffy, but the root crops have rebounded rather nicely ~ beets, carrots and turnips and beets are all looking much better! The cukes and pickling cukes are making great strides. The pumpkins, squash and zucchini are moving along fabulously! Cabbage and lettuce are forming heads, peppers and green beans are shooting off flowers, and the potatoes are doing amazing! I am so grateful that this recent stretch of good weather has “repaired” most of the garden. We won’t have as strong a yield as I was looking forward to, but I am thankful that God has blessed us and will bring the garden to fruit. Our grape vine, the valiant, has 12 bunches of grapes going, the grapes are about pea-size now ~ yippee! The blueberries are beginning to “blue up”. The thornless blackberry has begun to throw up multiple shoots, so next year will be good for those. The cranberry is doing rather well too, but fruit won’t be until next year. Rhubarb is going by, next year we can harvest that, and if this year is any indication, it will be a great crop. The herb garden is coming along nicely too ~ the transplanted peppermint has taken hold, the chocolate mint and the spearmint are also doing really well. The pineapple sage is ready for harvest, as is the dill, the catmint is also ready ~ the lavender is blossoming, so I am going to have to grab the blossoms for lemonade ~ and for tea. The lemon verbena is doing rather well, I can’t wait to bring that in to dry for tea! The thyme is about ready to harvest and the cilantro is about to seed. Tarragopn is doing so-so, and rosemary is doing great. Basil is limping along (too much water, not enough sun), but is gaining by the day with the new sunny weather ~ I can taste the pesto already. I have taken pics, just need to get them developed ~ so I should have some to post soon J { Post a Comment } { Last Page } { Page 36 of 91 } { Next Page } |
