Killing freeze, hard frost...fall has arrived...

Well looks like the end of the gardening season here at Sisyphus Acres...Last night temps dropped down into the 20s, soooo hard frost with hard freeze temps.  Looks like I'll be picking all but the hardiest veggies tomorrow...

Earlier this week I picked 25 ears of corn, 50+ tomatoes, 44 more cucumbers, couple more okra, about a pound, pound and a half of broccoli.  Fall Broccoli has done so much better than the spring broccoli, rains subsided a bit in the second half of the growing season, which helped a lot.

We picked all the soybean plants, but haven't shucked the pods off yet so I don't know how much there is, but there are alot.

This past weekend I shelled some hard beans and prepared grape juice for jelly, tonight I'll be making the jelly, tomorrow Am I'll be picking and tomorrow afternoon canning tomatoes...and then shelling the rest of the beans, and maybe making chocolate zucchini bread...hmmm...will I have enough time??? UGH!!!  And whatever else needs processing will have to wait until Monday.

The brussel sprouts, broccoli, rutabaga, beets, leeks, and maybe even the cabbage can hold out a little longer...but this weekend the rest of the tomatoes (green and all), peppers, beans, cukes, squash, pumpkins, celery, corn, okra, and probably even the onions will all have to come in.

Oh crud, I'll have to check the herbs too, may have to grab the last hit of mint, lemon verbena, etc. too.

Sunday I am travelling with my "adopted" daughter to go with her to shop for her wedding dress, she made an appointment (on a Sunday...sigh), but her real mom won't go with her, and I am honored she asked me.

Well, just about the end of the work week for me, have to head to the garage to pick up my car...

It is neat and odd to hear that it is so cold where you live. Here in So. Calif we are in the 90's still ! I would like fall to come soon. We have a few trees changing color and smell fall in the air some days, but we are still hot. God Bless, mj
