Way behind on the garden reports...

Hi everyone, long time, no write ~ this summer has been extremely busy!  While we got a ridiculous amount of rain, using the photodegradeable plastic mulch was a blessing!  Not only did it keep the rain away from the plants a bit, but when the sun came out the soil warmed up fast...so many of my friends had tremendous trouble in their gardens, I am thankful for the bounty God has blessed me with.   I am listing the initial tally, to date I have harvested, there is much more to come:

16 gallons of green, yellow and purple beans

138 cucumbers (I still have a batch left to harvest on the vine)

2 gallons of sweet peas

2 gallons of snap peas

14 zucchini

12 okra ( and have more to pick)

4 green peppers (my tomato plants crushed most of my peppers)

1/2 lb Music garlic

2 lbs Russian red garlic

2 lbs Yugoslav garlic

scant radishes

22 tomatoes

2 lbs of broccoli

20 lbs turnip

4 lbs beets

14 ears of corn

3 lbs of grapes

1 pint of blueberries from my bushes  ~ 10 lbs from pick-ur-own place

1 pint of raspberries from my bushes  ~ 3 lbs from pick-ur-own place

2 qts blackraspberries from a friend's house

8 qts of strawberries from the farmers market

various herbs: marjoram, peppermint, spearmint...

Left to harvest are potatoes, second crop of corn, pumpkins, spaghetti squash, acorn squash, more zucchini (of course), brussell sprouts, cabbage, fall broccoli, onions, jalapenos, okra, green peppers, kidney beans, cranberry beans, sunflowers (edible seeds), leeks, celery, carrots, rutabaga, beets, soy beans (edamame), and tons of tomatoes ~ oh and jerusalem artichokes and a few more blackberries (my bush is starting to produce, yay!)  And loads of herbs...

In the "puttin' up" department:

10 pints dilly beans (I gave 3 away)

21 (or so) quarts of pickle spears (I gave a couple away so I've lost count, I think I gave 3 away)

6 pints pickle "chips" ( I gave 2 away)

1 pint and 1 half pint pickle "bits"

5 1/2 pints relish

12 half pints strawberry jam ( gave 2 away)

6 half pints blackberry jelly

Tonight, depending on the time I have when I get home from work, I plan to make salsa, grape juice to make jelly, and shred zucchini to make chocolate chip zucchini bread...That still leaves me with okra to deal with, but I think that would catch me up enough to be able to go out and pick again...

My dd has pics on her memory stick, I hope to post them tonight!!

Chat soon, gotta get back to work...

Hi Val!

Yes, I was looking for Jewelweed seeds :) . I did get some in the mail from another lady; but if you want to send yours, I'll plant them, too! As much Poison Ivy and Poison Oak as we have here, we need all the natural remedy we can get, as well LOL!
Your harvest so far sounds great! Our garden was too pitiful for words, but we have the Fall garden planted at the new place, and it should do much, much better.
Hugs,
Catherine :)

What a bounty!

Wow...the Lord has surely blessed you indeed. My garden didn't do very well at all this year. I am still picking green beans, peppers and tomatos but that's it. Thank you for visiting my blog. You will enjoy your elderberries!
