Okay, I must apologize to dear Gena. Please accept my humblest apology for dropping the ball on this. Gena asked us to post our really good chili recipes on our blogs then send her the link. I told her mine might not be really good, but it is very enjoyable and I didn't get it done. Here it is, hope you like it.
Note: this recipe is for a large quantity, which means you can freeze some or before adding beans and chili powder, split the batch and use the other half for spaghetti sauce which is what I do.
~ Chili ~
1 - 2 lbs ground turkey or beef
2 29oz cn tomato sauce
1 29oz cn tomato puree
2 15oz cn kidney beans (optional)
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp dried onion or onion powder*
3 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp basil
1 tbsp season salt
1 tbsp adobo all-purpose seasoning
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp salt
* you can also use fresh chopped onion if available
In a large pot, brown the ground turkey until brown then drain fat. Stir in seasonings, then add sauce, puree, and beans. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat. Simmer, covered, for about 30 - 45 mins; stirring occassionally.
Here is a modified Recipe from the Betty Crocker's Cookbook we tried this week. Yes, I know its not just Chili , but its really good.
~ Chili Macaroni ~
1 1/2 c elbow Macaroni
1 lb ground beef
1/2 c chopped onion
1 cn diced tomatoes - basil, garlic & oregano 14 1/2 oz
1 cn tomato sauce - 8 oz
1 cn tomato paste - 6 oz
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp ground cumin
* optional shredded cheese of choice
Cook macaroni as directed on package. While mac cooks, brown beef with onions in large pot, drain fat. Drain mac, then stir mac and remaining ingredients, except cheese, into beef mixture. Heat to boiling, stirring occassionally; reduce heat. Simmer uncovered about 20 min, stirring occassionally. Sprinkle with cheese. |
