In light of our recent discussions on contentment, I spent time pondering what would help me most when I feel discontent creeping into my life. The following have been the most effective "discontentment busters" for me.
Discontentment Buster #1 ~ Prayer
Scripture says "Effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availath much" James 5:16. Well, again scripture has proven itself. I have been diligently spending time in prayer, instead of the internet , and it has helped tremendously. I have regained my focused, received the help and direction I needed most and the best of all, I have fellowship with my heavenly Father and my fellow brothers and sisters in Him. I have asked several of my closest friends to stand in the gap for me and I can sense their prayers. It has been a remarkable and memorable week.
Discontentment Buster #2 ~ Encouragement
A word in due season is refreshing. I have always enjoyed encouraging others and have never really considered that I was lacking on the receiving end on this one. However, in the past week I have received several words of encouragement that were very timely and spoke directly to my heart. I realize that we all need to be encouraged, we all need to know that no matter what ~ we are loved and thought of, and that above all, our heavenly Father loves us dearly. I received these words of encouragement in an email newsletter, email reminder and by prayerfully reading the scriptures. I am so glad that I decided to change my priorities and "seek first His kingdom" for He has truly blessed me and I moving forward in Him daily. I even received an email of encouragement from a fellow homestead blogger ~ I'll email you back soon, promise.
You all may know about or even receive these email blessings, however, for those who don't and would like to, just click the links below:
A Beautiful Keepers Sampler ~ lovely and inspiring. Peggy has put her heart in this current issue and I am very grateful. She spoke directly to my need and to an area that I have allowed to become dormant. I will prayerfully work on this area and allow the Lord to lead and develop it. There are great tips and links too.
FlyLady ~ very humorous and practical. I know some don't appreciate receiving several emails daily, neither do I. However, I have found them to be inspiring, rewarding and a blessing in this stage in my life. I've known about FlyLady for about a year, but hadn't had a particular need to find out more or join until recently. My dilemna was chores and teenagers. Upon further investigation, I discovered that I could easily do all the practical tips mentioned, and had in my previous life as a professional, however I was having difficulties implementing them in my own home. As a professional, I was responsible for organization of everything and keeping everyone in line and on their toes. What I found out this week, was when you are the boss with no administrative help, i.e. encourager, you are all alone. The emails of testimonies and reminders have been like having myself working for me. Its been a refreshing and invigorating experience and much has been done without me having to yell or display the chore chart. Yes! that's what I needed, an attitude adjustment for Da Mumma.
I hope something I have said has been a source of encouragement for you as you read this. Know that I will be standing in the gap for you too.
