Christmas Decorations

Posted on Friday, December 14, 2007 at 12:24

Good Friday, all!  I hope everyone is having a wonderful day.

While the outside of our home is now decorated for Christmas, my little one and I are thinking of what we will use to finish the interior decorations.  As a reault,  my Pumpkin and I are planning a trip to nearby woods tomorrow to pick out some natural elements for our Christmas centerpeices.  She and I both enjoy looking for items that we will use to fill bowls and vases, and make our home shine with Holiday glitter.

I will incorporate branches, seed pods, walnuts,  pine and fir cones into out natural theme. Even broom straw will find its way into our home, and have its place among the tinsil and bows!

For the major centerpeice on the dining room table, we are using peeled willow branches that we are going to spray paint glossy silver and gold.  We have tufts of broom straw that have been been lightly sprayed with a white glitter, that we will place between them, to vary the heights, and fill out the bowl.  Around the outer edges, oak leaves she will glitter spray with a very soft pink and gold,  will complete the first of seven centerpeices.  We will surround our decoration for the table with pillar candles in varing hues of pink, gold and white, placed on the largest of the oak leaves.  Hint, use a small saucer, and layer the leaves, with the edges at different angles, to add interest to the display.  The buffet will hold an antique glass bowl, filled with seed pods and nuts, all glittered, and a few gold glass bulbs, with the hangers tied with tiny silver bows, and jingle bells.

For those that will decorate our coffee and end tables, we are sugaring fruits like apples and oranges, and we will add some nuts, sprayed with a gold glitter.  The mantlepeice is already sporting a lovely green garland, strung through with multi-colored, soft hue lights, that twinkle merrily in green, gold, blue and pink, so we will only add a few peices of holly to the edges to complete that display.  To sugar fruits, simply dip in an egg wash, dip into granulated sugar, and allow to dry overnight.  They will last up to two weeks, if kept dry.

Each door inside the  house will have a spray made from branches  from the Japanese Holly in out backyard.  Intertwined in the braches will be gold ribbon, and a small silver bell.  The front entryway already has a large evergreen garland with lush red velvet bows, and white lights woven throughout.  A large pine swag hangs in the center of the door, which is painted a very cheery red.To finish it, we simply added a green gingham bow, and holly berries, sprayed with a clear polyurethane paint.

All in all, the fun of finding new ways to decorate our home, on a very meager budget, inspires us to try new things, and lets our imaginations soar!  Our buget for decorations this year was $25.  We still have six dollars left, so tomorrow morning, before we start our walk, we are going to run to a nearby bakery, for hot chocolate, and raspberry danish, a very special treat indeed! Yippee, for breakfast I don't have to cook, lol!

Have a lovely day, ya'll!
