My Hubby and The Country Kitchen Love Built

My Hubby: Helper, loving spouse, friend, decent, hardworking, kind, gentle, giving, wise, careful, wonderful, open, honest as the day is long, simple, confidant, planner, doer, and loves me to distraction!

How blessed am I?

I am always writing of other things in our daily life. Today, I just needed to take a few moments to write about the wonderful man with which the Lord has blessed me.

I wanted to share with you a story of how this wondefully humble and giving man shows his love for me and his family.  When we first moved here, the house needed sooo much work, and to tell the truth, I just wasn't enthused at all.  I hated the kitchen and the floor and oh my, did I hate the yard!  But, I came because my place is with him.  So I planted myself in this soil, slowly and surely, learning to take the things I loved and make them my focus.  But, Hubby knew my heart, oh yes he did.  This is the story of how he proved that love, yet again.

Our son, Todd loved football, but I did not want him to play.  His dad said, "Baby, you got to let the boy grow up!  Let him play." So, I did.  The first night out, he got his leg broken so badly, we were to spend the next six weeks in the hospital, with him in skeletal traction and me on a cot next to him.  I never left, except to get something to eat.  Hubby had to work, and I knew it.  I missed him so dreadfully!  He came everyday, but didn't stay too long, saying he had a lot of work to do.  And everytime I called, I got the answering machine.  He always picked up the phone, but I couln't figure out why he didn't just answer.  Being with Todd took all of my energy, so I didn't have time to think about it.  Well, finally the day arrived when we could go home.  I was a happy woman, let me tell you!  Sick of the smell and sight of the hospital, all I wanted to do was open the door and walk into our house.

The day arrived, bright and sunny, and the air smelled so sweet as we left town, hitting the road for home.  As we drove, Todd and I talked a bit, and both expressed the joy we would feel when we got there.  As we pulled into the drive, I noticed a few cars, but just thought it was probably a few of our church friends, there to welcome Todd.  Sure enough, a passel of kids came bolting out to the car, and I left them to chat.  I was so weary, I wondered where I would get the energy to entertain.  I was about to discover that I had no need to do anything at all.

Hubby loped down the steps, kissed me and said, "Baby, I have a big surprise for you.  Now close your eyes and just hold onto to me."  I did, not because I wanted to , but because we had a house full of company, I am ashamed to say.  Up the steps and through the back door we went, and as I stepped into the kitchen, all talking ceased.  Hubby took his hands from my eyes and shouted, "One, two, three, open your eyes, Baby."  When I did, I couldn't say a word.  Tears began to fall, like rain.  And as I try to write this, they are falling again.  While I had been gone, my darling husband had re-done our whole kitchen!  Gone was the awful color and in it's place beautiful panneling and brick overlay.  Gone were the squeaky cabinets, and now there were white cabinets, just as I had always wanted.  It was so beautiful to my tired eyes, I could say nothing.  I just wept and wept, crying for the weeks apart, the love he had shown and for my own joy.

That is my hubby.  God thank you so much for him.  I love him so!

Sweet...
