Power in Simple Kindness
Posted on Friday, February 1, 2008 at 04:49 - Post Comment

There is so much power in a simple act of kindness. We often do not understand the impact it can have on others. kindness, given for its own sake, expecting no reward, is one of the greatest blessings a person can receive.
Random tokens of kindness to each other makes life so much sweeter. Deciding to be gentle in word and deed with those we love can make even more of an impact. My little girl is teaching her cousin, a few years younger, to ride a bike. She isn't doing it because anyone forced her, or even asked. She is doing it because, as she puts it, "She is little Momma, and someone has to show her how." Wow, talk about profound wisdom! Someone has to show her how!
Do you remember the first itme you consciously chose to give of yourself to someone else? Do you remember the first time someone went out of their way for you? Kindness is a wonderful blessing, both to the recipient, and the giver. I remember once, when I was a small child, my good friend Rebecca was in trouble with the teacher for talking in class, and couldn't have her recess because of it. She was so upset, she started to cry. Our teacher, Mrs. Skinner, long since gone to be with the Lord, explained to her that she had lost her privledges for recess and those were the rules. But, when she noticed that Rebecca was so distraught, Mrs Skinner told her that she would stay in with her. Now, that was kindness!
Yes, Rebecca had broken the rules, and yes, there were consequences for it. But, that sweet old lady gave up her own lunch time to sit with one frightened little girl. Needless to say, after that day, Rebecca and she were the best of friends. Doesn't that story remind you of God's grace? In her act of kindness, Mrs Skinner taught many hungry little eyes and ears, a wonderful example of God's grace and kindness to us. We have all made mistakes. And if we live, we will make more. That is the nature of life. But, oh how wonderful to know that God is gracious, and kind, forgiving our trespasses, and loving us, despite our mistakes.
Kindness is a choice. "Be ye kind, one to another." Profound in its simplicity. Beautiful in its practice.
Thank you Lord, for those who are kind, when they do not have to be. Thank you for those who sow gentle words and acts of love with quiet hearts. Thank you for the blessings of true friendship and for all of those who will read these words. Please send someone to visit them with kindness today. Amen

Blessings to you! It is so simple to love another by even a kind word, pat on the back or a hug with a whisper in their ear " I love you or I care." I know many need such words or acts of kindness for it does lift the spirit up to want to fly. I love it when that happens. I enjoyed your post and aren't we blessed to be blessed to bless another? God is so wonderful
to give us His heart for another. May 2008 be full of his love and faith which breaks the chains and the walls start crumbling down. Blessings always, rilda *U*

Thank you for the reminder! I know that kindness begins with me, and then like a stone thrown into the water it ripples out to others and others.............
Your blog looks great. I have yet to learn how to change things. May the Lord be with you. jodalton
