Homemade Cosmetic Recipes

I think every lady wants to look her best, and most of us want to do it with as little fuss and muss as we are able!  These recipes have come to me from all over, and are tried and true, both by my oldest DD and myself.  As one of the of the lovely ladies from HSB and I found out,  we share a love of all things natural, and I promised her I would create a post with some of the ones that I have used for years.  I do use some prepared make-ups, all by Elizabeth Arden, and I love her line.  But, I have found they are just too expensive to use daily.  So, I use my own, and find them quite lovely for everyday wear.  I hope you will enjoy these CA< and God bless.

Homemade Face Powder

 1/2 cup cornstarch

2 tblsps arrowroot powder

Titanium Oxide, 1/2 ounce package,  to match the color of your skin. Hint:  Most fair skin colors are a blend of yellow, brown and red, so you will need to purchase all three to get a pefect match.  (Be especially careful with this, as it can get really dark, quickly!  Add very slowly until you have found your perfect blend, and make sure you write it down!  This step took me hours to complete, so be patient.  The results are worth it!)

Sift cornstarch and arrowroot powder together and sift through a fine seive, a tea drainer does wonderfully for this.  The powder needs to be loose and extremely fine, so you may have to do this step two,or three times.  When the powder has reached a "feathery" stage add the oxides to match your skin tone.

Alternative Face Powder,

3 tblsp. rice powder
 1/8 tsp. titanium dioxide
  1/8 tsp. kaolin clay
1 .15cc (1/2 ounce) brown oxide or color of your choice( red, yellow etc. After blending!
Blend together for several moments, then use seive to sift.

Hint: If your skin is more olive cast, use yellow and green titanium iron oxide, with a light red, to make the corrct color for your skin

You can find the oxides at some of the larger craft stores.   These are the same used in the loudltytouted mineral wear lines, from what I understand, and they have never caused me any problems.  However, if you have allergies to nickle or any type of metals, please don't use them unless you have permission from your MD or allergist.

Now, if you don't want to use the oxides, or don't have access to them, you can also use any good natural food dyes to attain the same hues.  It will mean a little extra work, but it is worth it! Choose a good quality food dye, and blend yellow, red and a little green together, until the color matches your skin tone.  When you have acheived the correct hue, blend with the powders until the color is approximate.  Preheat oven to 350.  Place the powder on a clean baking sheet and spread thin, then bake for five minutes.  Remove from oven and allow to cool, until room temperature.  Store in sterilized jars with bands and lids.  Once opened, use within three months.

Blush Powder

1/4 cup cornstarch

1 tblsp rice powder

Beet juice, or red and blue vegitable dye

2gtts rosewater essence

Mix powders, adn rosewater essence together, and sift carefully.  Add beet juice, or mixture of veggie dyes to acheive desired hue.  The color can range from a very light pink to a dark fuschia, depending on your particular needs.   Store in a tightly sealed sterilized jar.  Once opened, keep in a cool dark place. and discard after three months  This powder does get a little cakey, but it is still great, and will last for hours when applied.

Lip Stain (Long-lasting color!)\

2tbs almond oil

1tblsp grated beeswax

1/8 to 1 tsp beet juice, or beet root powder

Mix together the oil and beeswax in the top of a double boiler, or a water bath.  Add the beet juice or powder, and stir until well blended.  When you are blending this, it sometime looks like it is seperating, but don't worry.  As it cools, it will cohese, and blend.  As it is cooling, add more color to acheive the shade you want.  The color can range from a very light pink to a deep rich red!  You can also use food dyes to lighten , or darken, as desire.  Just add very small amouts at the time, so that you don't wind up with a gloppy mess, lol!  Store in a baby food jar, after sterilizing.  Keep in a cool dry place.

I also have a recipe for mascara, and several shampoo, creme rinse and body sugar scrubs, if anyone is interested.  Just drop me a line, and I will post them for you!

bless, Ya'll and have a great day!  Mistypearl

Thank You!
