There wasn't enough time in the day for me to work on turning the house into a home today.

We spent our day doing school work and housework.

Oh well, at least there was a lot of laundry that got done! ;D

JUST A QUICK THOUGHT...WHY????

Posted by Meme
05:20, Wednesday, January 7, 2009 .. 2 comments .. Link

Just reading a few post when I got a message from a dear friend I met here and she was saying that one post of hers got a nasty comment.. So, this is where my post will come from today...

WHY????? I can not figure out why these bloggers feel they have the right to comment in such a way and then not even have enough nerve to leave a name..

You know I will probably have one here after this but ,you know what? Go ahead MAKE my day..I just laugh and then get mad...not at the comment, but at the thought of, what gives them the right? .I have recieved them before and NEVER deleted it nor did I delete my post for that day. It does not make one feel all that good to get one but, I will not give anyone the satisfaction of not posting or anything of the such.

Besides, I know that we all have life situations and we all handle them in a different manner. I also do not think that a professional psycharists (ms)reads these post to make such comments. You may think I handle a problem different from the way you would handle it, that's cool, but do not try an impose your beliefs and ways on me....Now, if your way possibly could help my situation, then post those thoughts, but I do not think one should be nasty about it..

This a place for each of us to air out lifes difficulties, joys we may have ect. Not a place for someone to speak out in uglyness...I have read on some of the blogs things I did not like, but I always try and find something to say that  may help, or not say anything at all..Since I am not walking in their shoes how could I possibly know how one should handle that situation? I wonder those that leave these kind of comments, have they ever recieved one? How did it make them feel?

So, with all this rambling done,  I will end with this thought:

PLEASE let us start this New Year with peace and LOVE for each other. Let's  STOP this uglyness...This is not what Homestead Blogging is about..

If you feel that I have over stepped here, so be it, just do not visit again. This is my blog, I can vent as I please as you can comment as you wish. I am not going anywhere...

Thanks for stopping by and happy reading..

Debbie

Wiped OUT!!

I have to admit i have not been this wiped out in a long time. This cold has knocked me on my butt..... I went to bed yesturday afternoon around 1 and only got up enough to go to the bathroom and get a drink of water. I have done this all day yesturday, last night and today.. I am still wiped... I cant talk, my throat is hurting, my chest hurts, my head hurts.. YOu name it i just feel alround bad.... I know that it was a blessing that this showed it head before surgery.. I sure did not need this to happen after surgery or while i was in the hospital. i am sure that it would have only hurt my recovery time. So if i can say anything I can thank God that he allowed the cold to come out before i went to the hospital.

Today has been a day. You know what no matter how much you think you are ready for your divorce papers to come into the mail and no matter how much you know that what has taken place is the only thing that could have taken place.. Still when you get those papers you hold them in your hands and feel like a failure.... I mean there is no other words that can fill how i have felt today.... A failure.... I mean I knew the papers were in, I knew that i was divorced, I knew that the judge had signed them and  to be honest i also know that me and the children are better off now.. But to hold that stack of papers that round out the last 20 years of your life in your hand and it is so cold and so uncaring... That stinks....

have a blessed day all

Make your own butter

One day last week I remembered that I had bought some heavy cream over the holidays for Moma's Favorite Cookie, which I am GOING to post the recipe for! REALLY! :)  Well, I thought with this much cream, it would be a good time to show the children how to make butter... well the easy way to make butter.
We pulled out the ole food processor.
Poured in all that cream and turned it on...
There were a few different stages that I told them we would see...
First of all we saw it just as a liquid, as it is as cream.
We would start seeing the cream slowly becoming thicker, until we had it at the whipped cream stage.
They all tried it at this point and sneered... sadly they thought it would taste like cool whip.  Pitiful, huh? I told them at the enormous amounts of 'stuff' added to cool whip and this was so much better, and that we could add a little sweetner if we wanted whipped cream, but we want butter!
Keep it moving, keep it moving...
FINALLY!
BUTTER! :) HURRAH!
Please forgive the skunk stripes down my child's hair... our New Years Party got a bit crazy! :) haha
Mmm... this butter is good, Mom!
We even took the buttermilk and put it in a jar to use later and washed the curds with ice water to help get all the milk off so the butter would last longer.
Now a solid. How crazy are we? Doing school when we are supposed to be on holiday? haha... so is the life of a homeschooler.
I hope you have a great day friends.

Update on my papaw

I just came back from Hospice seeing my papaw.   The nurse said he is showing all the signs  that he will be leaving us soon.   She said he would probably go within the next 24 hours.  My heart is breaking so bad right now.   I know he is ready to go but I am going to miss him so bad.    I told him I loved him and that it was okay for him to go be with mamaw.   He moved his lips like he was trying to tell me he loved me back.    I just hope I can get back it back to Hospice in time but he may go before I can get back in the morning.  Hannah got sick on Sam.  I had to come back and take care of her or I would have stayed.    She has the stomach flu.   We had done so good about not getting it and out of all times to take it.   Sammy was sick Saturday night and Sunday.  I will probably take it next.    Thursday is my birthday and I am afraid I am going to get a gift I don`t want.    I know my papaw is ready to go.   He wants to be with my mamaw.  I told him to give her lots of hugs and kisses from me.      I just wanted to update you all on what is going on.  I need to go check on Hannah and try to get some sleep.

Still Working on Windows

We put up some white shades with white lace curtains in the dining room today.  I love them.  They look great.  I still have to figure out what to put on the dining room's picture window.

We put two white shades in the living room too.

I still have the quilt over the picture window in there.

I really like the lace ivory lace curtains on the door window.

I need to put curtains on the kitchen door window, the dining room picture window, and the two living room windows with only the shades.

Then I'm going to find some nicer curtains for upstairs and the bathroom.

This is actually fun.  I'm enjoying myself.

Handy Substitute Recipes For Baking

• Cake Flour Recipe:
If you're running short on cake flour and need it now, here's a tip
for making your own: Add two level tablespoons of cornstarch to a
one-cup measuring cup, then fill with bread flour. Sift three times
then use as needed.

• Self-Rising Flour Recipe:
In a one-cup measure, place 1 1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt,
then fill to top with flour. Mix well and store in an airtight
container if not used right away.

• Half And Half Cream Substitute:
In a one-cup measure, place 3 Tablespoons + 1 1/2 teaspoons of melted
butter. Top up the cup with whole milk. You can also use an equal
measure of evaporated milk as a half and half-cream substitute.

• Buttermilk Substitute:
You can substitute 1 cup of buttermilk with the following quick
recipe–In a one cup measuring cup, add 1 TBS of vinegar or lemon
juice, then top up the rest of the measuring cup with milk. Set aside
for 5 minutes, stir, then use as buttermilk in the recipe.

• Graham Cracker Crumb Crust Substitute:
In a pinch, you can use crushed corn flakes in place of graham cracker
crumbs. Recipe for crust: 2 cups crushed corn flakes*, 1/3 cup melted
butter, 2 TBS sugar. Gradually add the melted butter to the crushed
corn flakes and sugar. Mix well and press into pie plate (8″ or 9″).
Bake at 350° for 10 minutes. *Use the non-frosted corn flakes.

• Chocolate Squares Substitute:
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa & 1/4 cup melted Crisco (Substitution for 4
ounces unsweetened chocolate squares).

Baking Powder Substitutes

•Try 1/4 tsp baking soda & 1/2 tsp cream of tartar to substitute for 1
tsp baking powder.
•1/2 tsp baking soda per 1 cup of buttermilk (substitute for 2 tsp
baking powder–use buttermilk already called for in recipe).
•1/2 tsp baking soda per 1 cup of sour milk (or use 1 cup milk soured
with 1 TBS vinegar or lemon juice; use milk already called for in
recipe)–substitute for 2 tsp baking powder
•1 cup of milk with 1 3/4 tsp cream of tartar, add 1/2 tsp baking
soda–substitute for 2 tsp baking powder (use milk already required in
recipe)
•1/2 tsp baking soda per 1 cup of molasses (use molasses already
called for in recipe)–substitute for 2 tsp baking powder

Kitchen Tidbits:

•1 stick of butter = 1/2 cup
•1 cup of whipping cream = 2 cups whipped
•1 cup uncooked rice = 3 1/2 cups cooked
•1 envelope Gelatin = 4 leaves = 1/4 ounce
•1 pkg. yeast = 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
