Groundhog Day
Has anyone seen that movie? You know, the one where Bill Murray's weatherman character relives the same day over and over? Well, we're starting to feel that way a little around here! We made yet another trip to our pediatrician this morning for a new development-- Middle Son's very red eye. Because this was the same eye that a hair stylist poked a pair of scissors into a few weeks ago (ouch!) we felt it was important to get it looked at. At this point, the doctor thinks it's related to his strep, but we're watching it closely. While I love our doctor, I really hope that we can go a little longer than two days without visiting her again! Is it spring yet?
The menfolk here are looking forward to watching a "little" football game tomorrow night. As for me, the only thing I consider a sport is antique shopping. (It can be quite a work out lugging all that stuff to the truck.) Since we all love finger foods, we each chose something and ended up with a strange (but delicious) menu.
Sweet and Spicy Grilled Chicken Wings
Rosemary Mushrooms Sauteed in Olive Oil
Olive Cheese Bread
Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers
Buffalo Chicken Dip w/Chips
Speaking of good eats, last night we noticed that our old rooster cookie jar was empty. So, Youngest Son and I made a batch of cookies that were spicy, crinkly, and just plain yummy. We added raisin eyes and noses for the cutest little groundhog faces, ever! This recipe was handed down to one of my best friends by her grandmother. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Molasses Cookies
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
3/4 c. molasses - I prefer the dark
2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
2 1/4 c. flour
Combine soft and wet ingredients, stir.
Add flour and dry ingredients.
Drop by rounded teaspoonful. Roll in sugar.
Bake 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees.

I just stopped by to check on you and your family. I hope your son's eye is better soon! I had to laugh at your comment about antique shopping as a sport - I couldn't agree more, LOL!
My guys will watch the game, but I think I will work on some of my WIPS and start to whittle down my pile. My daughter is away at college so I am outnumbered 3 to 1 in the "what shall we watch" department.
I think those molasses cookies look so good that I my have to make a batch this week!
Have a blessed Sunday,
Shan

Yum - I'm in the mood to bake them this week, now - unfortunately - I'm the only one who enjoys them. --- Not good for the hips. --- Love you, too - Chare

LOL, Groundhog Cookies!!! What a hoot! I will have to remember to make them next year. My youngest was a little disappointed this year because we usually make a big deal out of Ground Hog's Day - we read a story book about it (it's tradition), and I usually make something with sausage (ground hog ya know).
Yep, I had to make special "party" food for us 4 too for the little game - Little Smokies, Nachos & chesses w/salsa, and pizza. I felt like I needed to detox after all that. The funniest thing happened (at least to me I thought it was funny). During the final 30 seconds of the game, our 15 yr. old tv went snowy. lol, we could hear the game but saw nothing, so the dutiful wife that I am (I could care less about the game, but...), I ran down to the basement and turned on the little 12" screen and saved the day for hubby. The larger tv worked again later - after the game (it's on it's way out).
I hope your son's eye clears up quickly, ouch to the barber mishap.
Blessings,
PlainJane
