The First Day of December
Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions
of our childhood days, recall to the old man the pleasures of
his youth, and transport the traveler back to his
own fireside and quiet home!
-Charles Dickens

December is my favorite month! I love everything about it, except that it never lasts long enough. We're having so much fun preparing for Christmas this year. Simple IS better. I'm working on a Colonial theme for my dining room, so I'm using a lot of fresh fruits and greens. I've been trying to steal a few moments in the evenings to work on gifts, and you can hear lots of whispers and giggles at the secrets that are being kept! I'll also have a birthday to look forward to in a couple of weeks and I hear something about my sister planning a party for me, which is really sweet of her.
It's a blustery day today and the old woodstove is working overtime to keep up. I'm quite content to stay home and in my kitchen. There are two herbed hens in the oven, and bread dough rising for the stromboli that I want to freeze for next week. If all goes well, we plan to tackle the gingerbread house project, which will certainly thrill the youngest in our family!
Deer season opened this past week and my guys shot a buck, which has been the topic of conversation all week. We'll pick up the meat on Monday, so I suppose I'll need to get some venison recipes ready! Tomorrow will be a very busy day. We have a Christmas brunch to attend at noon, festivities from the 1800's on a historic farm (can't wait for that) and then off to our firehouse party in the evening. We're expecting freezing rain tonight and I'd gladly trade that for snow! Oh, I don't know why I worry about it--it's not like we ever have a lack of it. It just feels more like Christmas when we have snowflakes!

Oh what great fun that will be for the old fashion dinner. You will have to take pictures and put them on when it is over. I would love to go back to that time frame for one day, maybe two and see how the world was. Have a great time.

I love the colonial times decorations. Have you ever seen Colonial Williamsburg's Christmas decorations? They are breathtakingly simple. How do you do it all? I'm struggling with this.
Blessings,

I noticed that you got your AWESOME old fashioned Christmas picture (the very top one with the Victorian family and their tree) from PhotoShop. Could you PLEASE (PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE) give me the name of it...there are nearly 750,000 Christmas pics on there!! I would love to have that as a screen saver on my 'puter for Christmas!
Hope you are doing well. Your blogs are always SO beautiful!
Blessings, Kim Wolf<><

Please come by and see.
