Show & Tell Friday
Posted in Show & Tell Friday

This picture was a wedding gift for my great-grandparents. It was hanging in our home when I was growing up, but has since started to deteriorate somewhat, so it stays protected these days. The locket belonged to the same great-grandmother, Charlotte. They called her "Lottie" and that is engraved on the outside. She wore it all the time when she was raising her children. I couldn't capture it on the picture, but there are actually little teeth marks on it from her teething babies! How precious us that?
I actually met this grandmother (the only great-grandparent who saw me) though I was only an infant at the time. She was gravely ill, but knew I was to be born soon and wanted to live to see me. Mom took me (at two weeks old) to see her and she was able to hold me. She passed away just a couple of weeks later. This is the same grandmother who owned the Civil War dishes.

How neat! Have you considered getting the photo restored? I love the frame too! And the locket! Were there any photos taken of your great-grandmother holding you (I'm guess not). You have such a rich heritage - thank you for sharing your life with me/us.
Blessings on your day!

This is such a beautiful share! I think it is adorable that there are teeth marks still on the locket. Reminds me of the teeth marks I find on things around the house from my own beautiful babies. Thank you for sharing!

Monday, October 8, 2007 - The Shepherdess

We have this same picture! I love it! My mother-in-law was an antique collector/seller. She died the same week we had our last daughter. It was very unexpected and sad end to such a happy week. This was the main item I choose to have. I love this picture. If you have any info on the photo please share it with me at homeschoolblogger. Ours was in a frame and written on the frame it said Miss Spring. I don't know that that has anything to do with the picture though. I am thinking that the back of the old print said "The shepherdess" when I needed to re-frame it to change out broken glass. I have a photo of it if you want to see ours.
