This will be a two fold post. Karen over at House on a Cliff wanted to see our kitchen pictures, so I thought I would just make that my show & tell for the week.

This was a labor of love. My kitchen was a pit of despair. I am NOT kidding in any way. I wish I had some "before pics" scanned for you because you will never understand just how awful it really was. It had only a few 1970's cheap-o upper cabinets with GREEN plexi-glass in them and one very small piece of counter top. When I washed dishes, I stared at the wall. The drywall was all messed up and the floor was gross. I did the best I could with it and tried to make lemonade from the lemons, (made a cute curtain for under the sink, painted and aged the cabinets, scrubbed everything, etc.) but no matter how I tried, it never felt clean and then things literally started falling apart. I lived with it that way for six years.

I cried when I found out that we were going to remodel. It was a dream come true! The project took about three months and my husband did all the work himself (with help here and there from me).  We never could have afforded it otherwise. (I thank the Lord that my husband is a "Jack of all Trades"...we've saved a bundle these last 15 years!)

We completely gutted it and started over. We moved the sink, windows and door, among other things. The only request I had was that he work around my farm table and my cookstove, and I chose the floor and cabinets. The rest, I trusted him with. He even chose the appliances for me...and boy was I shocked when they arrived! (I cried again.)

You can see that I have a blend of old and new and I think that's what I like about it. It 's difficult to really show through pictures because it's a very narrow space with a LOT of stuff in it! It will "thin out" a bit when I turn our totally unused sitting room into the schoolroom and the schoolroom into a dining room. (It is connected with the kitchen and separated by pocket doors so it would be a better set up.)

This is truly my favorite room in our home. I love to cook here and I love my hubby for creating this space... just for me.

Do you still use your cookstove and your flour cupboard or are they basically just for embiance? I've been wanting a cookstove for a very long time. I just love your antique kitchen furniture!

You are soooooooooo blessed my SSiC. It must have taken a long time to find all those treasures to decorate with.
You have a kitchen that would be a joy to cook in. And b/c it is soooooooooo BEAUTIFUL a person would be more motivated to keep it clean. (0;

Wow! Now that is what I call a kitchen! It's just gorgeous, and I see so many special touches throughout the room. I love the basket of eggs under the work counter and your cookstove is perfect!!! Your husband did a wonderful job and it looks like a lovely spot to bake and cook and just relax!

What a lovely kitchen you have! I love all the vintage touches to the place....... Wonderful!
It makes me excited to redo my kitchen!!! :) We start in a month or so....... I have picked out cabinets ( oak beadboard ) and like you I wanted a vintage look! The stove/range actually works ~ although I am adding an extra oven. :)

Your kitchen has given me inspiration!

Thanks for sharing and you are truly blessed to have this done by your husband! Kitchen remodels are very $$ - ask my hubby, he does remodeling for a living...... it's costly to have someone else do it! So you are truly blessed!
