'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free,
'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gain'd,
To bow and to bend we shan't be asham'd,
To turn, turn will be our delight
'Till by turning, turning we come round right.

A good day to stay in the kitchen

The "winter storm" we heard so much about didn't really amount to much. We did end up with ice, but much to the dismay of some boys around this farm, no snow! That also means, no snow ice cream, but we still have hope---there's snow in the forecast later in the week. We also have some very cold (single-digit) temperatures as well, so we'll need to take extra care with the animals to keep them all comfortable.
Because of the ice, we didn't make it out for church this morning. I spent a good portion of the day in the kitchen doing some baking. I found a wonderful cranberry scone recipe (which just might keep me from longing from the ones that I get only once in a while from the coffee shop) so I made a batch of those. I am probably the only "scone addict" in my household, so I'll share them with my mom and sister. I also made some blueberry bars and so many pancakes (for the freezer) that I lost count.
Tomorrow, I plan to take inventory of our freezers and the pantry to see how we are on supplies and how much of summer's harvest we have yet to use up. I know that I have apples that need to be used up. Our friends who own the orchard saved apples for our family and put them back in the cooler. They are such precious, giving folks. They told us to just come and get them as we needed them, so Mom brought me a basket of them the other day. I could have never imagined having fresh, sweet apples in winter! I just hope that our berries are plentiful this year so that we can share with them. I would be thrilled to repay their kindness and to keep the lost art of being "neighborly" alive and well. :-)

Thanks for stopping by my blog and looking at my pictures. I'm SO EXCITED that I can now put up other photos other than either what I've scanned from family photos or else some that others have sent me. I'm hoping to MAYBE do some kitchen things, like MAYBE show the process of cooking different things, or cross-stitches or other crafts, etc. Do you think that would be interesting to yourself &/or other readers?
We ventured out this a.m. in the freezing cold and icy-snow. Ty & I sang at my mother's church. It went very well, they are very gracious, warm and considerate. We did 4 songs throughout the service it went well. Later, we went out to eat w/my mom, brother, his lady-friend and our family to celebrate Jasper's 21st b-day. I LOVED it when the employees came out and sang a VERY LOUD, VERY FUNNY song! Haha! About the time her face started turning bright red there was even a line in their song that said "...and your face is turning red." It was great.
Enjoy this "light dusting" of snow we're getting - so far we have about 1-1/2" and it's still snowing. Some light dusting, huh? ;-)
Blessings, Kim<><

Posted by vgauthier
I make them all the time ~ I like white chocolate chips in my cranberry scones. I also make blueberry scones and maple oatmeal scone that are oh so yummy. This last time my dd wanted to add cinnamon chips to the maple oatmeal ones, yummmm!
