'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free,
'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gain'd,
To bow and to bend we shan't be asham'd,
To turn, turn will be our delight
'Till by turning, turning we come round right.
Shaker dance song by Joseph Brackett, 1848

From our family to yours...
Wishing you a blessed Thanksgiving!

"Over the river and through the woods
Trot fast my dapple gray.
Spring over the ground
Like a hunting hound
On this Thanksgiving Day, Hey!
Over the river and through the woods
Now Grandmother's face I spy.
Hurrah for the fun,
Is the pudding done?
Hurrah for the pumpkin pie."
- English folksong
In just an hour or so, we'll pack up our baskets of goodies and indeed be heading "through the woods" to Grandmother's house. Of course, it's now my sister's house, but it still brings those wonderful memories of gatherings and meals that Gram prepared for us. We have much to be thankful for, as always. Thank you for your visits, your sweet comments, friendship and prayers. I count you among my blessings!

It's great that someone still lives in your gr-parents' home so that NOW YOUR family can come and you can point out "when we were little we did 'this' here and when we were little Gram had 'that' setting in that corner..." Good memories. I really miss my paternal gr-parents' farmhouse. My favorite bedroom in our house is my dd#2's room - it's a dormer room and it's shaped just like my daddy's old room. I loved going up there as a girl and imagining what it was like for my daddy to be there as a little boy or a teenager. How nice it must have been for him to come home to on leave from the Navy. Once he ever snuck (sneaked?) home on a short leave, slept for the night in his room and nearly gave my gr-ma and gr-pa a heart attack when he greeted them when he came down for breakfast!!
