Here come the harvesters...
They are harvesting our soybeans as we speak. Oldest Son has been driving the tractor and grain carts up and down the road all evening. A John Deere Combine in a dusty orange sunset certainly is a beautiful sight! I hope to capture it on my camera when they come to do the rest. We're expecting some rain with the approaching cold front, which may keep them out of the fields for a couple of days.
They are also calling for light frost this week, so Mom and I cut the last of the lavender tonight. It still smells heavenly! I tied seven large bundles to add to what we have already. These will be hung and dried for soaps and things. I can't believe that we are about to say good-bye to September, but I do love October. The crisp cool weather is so wonderful and makes me focus on our little nest and making it cozy.
This afternoon, I prettied up some pantry jars with homespun scraps and baked an apple pie.
I also made vegetable soup today from things that we grew in the garden (now preserved in the pantry or freezer) so that the guys would have something warm to heat up whenever they came in. It's nice to be back in comfort food season.
I am very happy to say that I have been feeling much better these days. If you have prayed for me, please accept my sincere gratitude. Each prayer is so precious and is heard. I feel blessed to have friends who would take the time to remember me, and I wanted you to know that I do feel those prayers. I have a very sweet friend who has been a real support to me during this time in my life, even though she battles her own illness. She has not been well lately and if you would please take a moment to pray for Missy, I would be so grateful.
Well, it is time to crawl in under the quilts. I'll have to add an extra one for the nights ahead. Though I welcome autumn, I am not quite ready to start up the woodstove!

I don't know if I mentioned it but we had a lot of the timber cut from our property recently and with some of the cash, we are buying a wood stove!! I'm SOO excited about it. I grew up with fireplaces and wood stoves so it's a fond memory. The smell is heavenly...
We are contemplating buying a tractor. It's such a huge expense, but in the same breath it will help increase our income here on the farm. What to do...thinking and praying ...
I can't wait to see your picture of the soy bean harvesters!
Have a great Tuesday ~

I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better. I will continue to pray for you.
Yes, it is harvest time here also. They are picking cotton and the corn is just about finish. They have not yet started on the soy beans though.
We are just now getting cooler temps again. We had a very cool August for us here in Tennessee but Sept was just sort of back and forth. But today, the cold front has come in and we are starting our downward of temps. Right now at 9 am, we are at 68. That is cool for us.
I never grow tried of reading your post and I miss them when you are too busy to write.
Thank you for always sharing your day with us.

Amy,
I'm glad you are feeling better.
My family is harvesting as well. They (my father and my brother) farm corn and soybeans. I love the smell of a freshly combined field!
The sound of the grain bin dryer humming is a favorite of mine too.

So glad that you're feeling better. Don't over-do ~ just b/c you FEEL like you can doesn't MEAN that you can.
I, too, am enjoying seeing those massive combines out in the fields. I LOVE (LOVE, LOVE) fall. It's MY season! ;-) I was just driving between Tipp and West Milton today, while the storm clouds are marching in with the cold front, and even though it is getting dark w/the approaching weather it was still beautiful to me. The copper bean, the wonderful smelling yellow corn stalks, the elk at the elk farm by us were laying down close to the fence and they, too, seemed relieved that the coolness is coming our way.
I liked how you call fall "comfort food season." I'll have to remember that. So true. There's nothing like a good soup, stew or chili on a cold day. Your veggie stores looked beautiful.
Even though the original part of our house is 170+ years old, many years ago an owner took the fireplace out to put in the bay window in our livingroom. Ty and I have MANY TIMES in the past 11 years here tossed around the idea of having a woodstove put in. As someone before me mentioned, I grew up w/a fireplace, too, and I just LOVE that wonderful smell of fireplace smoke or campground/backyard fire pit smoke...ahhh!
Let's get together for coffee or something sometime.
Blessings, Kim<><

Dearest,
I have missed visiting with you but work here on the farm has kept me from my computer.
How delighted I am to hear that you are feeling better. That is a prayer answered! I just love your pantry with all the pretty jars and homespun toppers...too beautiful.
Yours very kindredly,
