This weekend was quite nice and much was accomplished. Dad helped me with the vacuuming to make the Saturday housecleaning go more quickly so I could get outside in the garden. I was able to get my annual bed weeded and seeded with sunflowers and zinnias. Little marigolds were already popping up, having been reseeded from last year. I also planted a row of zinnias and bachelor buttons in the vegetable garden. I love a little color in the vegetable garden and hope to have some cutting flowers this season. Earlier in the week, I was able to get my kitchen herb bed planted with oregano, chives, dill, basil, nasturtiums, a couple patches of lettuce and some parsley. My sage bush wintered over well, but I will have to plant another rosemary, since it was lost. I will need to bring it in over the winter next time. I also planted some root vegetable in one of our raised beds... beets, turnips, and radishes. I will wait for the fall to plant carrots... they will taste better planted at that time. We still neet to plant our tomato and pepper plants, as well as squash, chard and cucumber seeds. Already in are the broccoli, cabbage and onions, lettuce and a bit of spinach for salads. We have had so much rain, while good for that which is already planted, it will otherwise keep us out of the garden until things dry up. We spent Mother's Day with Dad's parents and the men got carry-out fried chicken. It was nice to take a break from cooking and cleaning. We took yesterday off from schooling so today will be a busy day of makeup for that. I hope to get to the library as Paul has a research project in language arts where he needs to use encyclopedias. Aside from the usual laundry to contend with, I must work in my bedroom. This is the season changeover with clothes and what a mess I have to deal with. I hope to get the winter stuff packed up and out of the way. Off to a quick start~~~ Day to Day

Today plans for nice weather, maybe I'll get into the flower bed off my patio. I like to plant annuals there. The soil needs much attention, but I feel that marigolds should do alright, as they seem to be very tolerant. Kaylee (granddaughter) should be arriving son. I keep her 3 days a week. Makes for a busy day with schooling for the boys. I need a plan to keep her occupied while doing school with my two guys. I usually do a little preschool with her and that helps. We'll go to the library today. We've been reading Patricia Polacca's books as an author focus and have been really enjoying them. I love her artwork, especially the goats! She is a wonderful children's author/illustrator. Paul woke up extra early, and Dad slept late. Dad will be off to work here soon. Paul likes to help me with the milking, so we'll head out for that. He also has started to take care of the chickens. It is nice when the young ones are able to help with some of these chores. Breakfast will be banana muffins. I have horribly freckled bananas to use...I hate to waste anything. They will make the muffins nice and sweet. I hope to start a sewing project. I saw a tote pattern using a plastic grocery bag. I have *so* much fabric...mostly lovely calicos. I think I'll do a patchwork one in yellows. |
