New Unit Study!!

For the last 3 weeks, we have been doing a unit study on Nate Saint, one of the five missionaries that was speared to death in Ecuador in 1956.    There is a lot of information about him right now due to the movie End of the Spear.   But before you go see this movie,  please read  http://www.sharperiron.org/showthread.php?t=2244.

This is what we did our first  week:

Bible -  Memorize   I Peter 4 10-11

Math -  Saxon Math

Spelling -  Spelling Power

Vocab - acre, biplane, diminish, jungle, minimize, transformation

Read-Aloud - Nate Saint, On a Wing and a Prayer by Janet & Geoff Benge  (Chapters 1-4)

Personal Reading -  The Wright Brothers by Margaret Hudson

History - Add Nate Saint's picture of his birth date and the Wright Brothers' birth and death date also with their picture  to our Book of Centuries Timeline  (we got this idea from Cindy Rushton).

Science -  Read about the discovery of penicillin and write a short essay on findings.
http://nobelprize.org/medicine/educational/penicillin/readmore.html - There is a little game on this site.

Geography - On a map of the States color and label  then connect (in order) all the states where Nate Saint was stationed while in WW2

All of this went into our History Journal.  We also added pictures of these planes the Challenger, C-47, and the 1933 Stinson.

I am very excited about this unit study.  Here is another site I found very helpful.

http://www.plymouthbrethren.org/page.asp?page_id=545 - This site actually shows a 2-3 minute clip of the missionaries. You can also listen to the original memorial servie for them.

Hi!

Thank you for the compliment on my site! I have been a computer "addict" for the past two years, so have spent a lot of time figuring it out, although my son works at it professionally and has forgot more than I'll ever know!

I've read your entire site and....I like you! Very interesting analogy with the yardstick. Tell your son I think he has real talent as a photographer; beautiful pics! I've saved your recipes; they sound so good. I loved your "rooster" story. The way to tell if an egg is bad is good to know. Loved your idea with the fabric softener! The room in your home looks so pretty with the wood stove.

I've added you to my friends list so I can keep up with you. Please stop by my site again soon!

Sarah
