Bedtime Thoughts

11:33, 2009-Feb-19 .. Posted in On The Homestead .. 1 comments .. Link
I'm sitting here in my living room about to go to bed.   The house is so still and quiet.   The wood heater is crackling from the metal heating up. The boys have went to bed. Mr. Wonderful has went to bed. We have all had something to eat. We all have a bed with warm covers. Most of the bills have been paid for the month. And I live in the United States of America.

I have a Saviour who died for me. Forgave me of my sins. Even though I bow before Him and give him praise and ask for needs, one day I will be able to touch him. I will be able to bow before him in person. To thank him in person for all the things he has done for me. My Lord and Savior is alive and well, sitting at the right hand of his Father in Heaven. He's not still in a grave, like some other gods people serve. He's not made out of wood or stone. He has ears to hear, eyes to see, hands to touch, feet to walk, a voice to talk, a nose to smell but yet when I worship Him, I must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

Tonight I'm going to bed with a thankful heart, a saved soul, a forgiven life, and a renewed spirit.

To quote Song of Solomon, My beloved is mine, and I am His.

Yes, life is good

good night

If you love your children.....

Are you aware that a piece of legislation is going for a vote in the Senate in 60 days? This has nothing to do with the economy.

Have you ever heard of UNICEF? Do you know what the letters stand for?
         United Nations Children's Fund

Have you ever heard of the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child?

Can you imagine getting jail time because you refused your child vaccinations?
It happened in Belgium, parents spent 5 months in jail and fined $8000.

Can you imagine having a child with a disability and if that child does not die of natural causes within his/her first 12 months of life, the government will come in and take that child's life by medical intervention?
It happens every year in Belgium.

Can you imagine naming your child and the government doesn't like the name of your child, so they rename him/her?
               It happens in Italy.

Can you imagine your grown child age 35. He has a law degree and lives in a nicer place than you, but you still have to send money to support him because he has not found a job that he "likes"?
             That's the law in Italy

Can you imagine your child getting mandatary sex ed at the age of 5?
This happens in Sweden, one of the first countries to ratify in 1990.

Under the CRC (Convention on the Rights of a Child) "definitely prohibits corporal punishment", in laymen terms no more spankings.

Don't take my word for it go to Parentalrights.org.

The US and Samalia (probably not spelled right) are the only 2 countries in the WORLD who has not ratified. But we have some people in the government who thinks we should.

This is going before the house in 60 days.

Did I mention that this will be part of international law? That means it trumps the Constitution!!!

Call you Senator!!! You can go to Senate.gov and this will give you the name of your Senators and their addresses. Tell them that you are against or for (this is about freedom) the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child. If you call ask for a letter in response, this is kinda like your receipt. If you write, they file the letters. We will do both.

Let's go to the Netherlands:

In 2007, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) released a comprehensive study  that evaluated the quality of life of children in more than twenty developed countries.  Starting with the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the authors of the report developed different factors to use in compiling their list of the world’s most child-friendly countries.  Surprisingly, the Netherlands was at the top of their list. According to UNICEF, Dutch children lead the rest of the world in terms of their “subjective well-being,” based on several international surveys where youth expressed their own opinions on their health, enjoyment of school, and overall satisfaction with themselves and their lives.1 Put simply, children in the Netherlands are the most likely to feel healthy, like school, and enjoy their everyday lives. According to Westcott, the secret to Dutch children’s success is that “their parents go out of their way to please them, and teachers expect less of them than some of their European counterparts.”2  Moreover, this is hardly a new phenomenon.  “The Netherlands has always been a very child-centered society,” said Professor Paul Vangeert of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.  “Their wishes become so strong that parents have to work very hard to give them what they want.”3 When it comes to making personal decisions, children in the Netherlands also enjoy an extraordinary amount of freedom.  According to Westcott, the Netherlands is famous for its tolerant attitudes toward activities like drinking, smoking, drugs, and sex, and this tolerance extends to its children as well.4  Sex education in the Netherlands begins at the age of 4, and the age of consent is set at twelve.5  In 2006, over 92% of fifteen year-old boys admitted using some form of contraception, and the rate for fifteen year-old girls was even higher, at 97%.6

Some other things you need to know:

Ten things you need to know about the substance of the CRC.
1. Parents would no longer be able to administer reasonable spankings to their children.
2. A murderer aged 17 years, 11 months and 29 days at the time of his crime could no longer be sentenced to life in prison.
3. Children would have the ability to choose their own religion while parents would only have the authority to give their children advice about religion.
4. The best interest of the child principle would give the government the ability to override every decision made by every parent if a government worker disagreed with the parent’s decision.
5. A child’s “right to be heard” would allow him (or her) to seek governmental review of every parental decision with which the child disagreed.
6. According to existing interpretation, it would be illegal for a nation to spend more on national defense than it does on children’s welfare.
7. Children would acquire a legally enforceable right to leisure.
8. Teaching children about Christianity in schools has been held to be out of compliance with the CRC.
9. Allowing parents to opt their children out of sex education has been held to be out of compliance with the CRC.
10. Children would have the right to reproductive health information and services, including abortions, without parental knowledge or consent.

Thank you for reading

Making ironing a little more fun

I love the old southern gospel music.  On you tube you can find all kinds of old recording of music.
Today while I was ironing clothes for the week, I thought I would listen to some old Statesman recordings.
On this site, the person put all the songs on a playlist.  So no more listening to a 2 minute song and having to go and click to the next one, this is like listening to the radio, it automatically changes to the next song.

Funny Fridays, hmmm, what's he trying to say?

08:24, 2006-Dec-8 .. Posted in Funny Fridays .. 4 comments .. Link
For years my husband and I have joked with each other about who loves the other more.  I'll say, "I love you".  Then he'll say, " I love you, more".  And it goes on and on (I know kinda corny, but that's what we do.)

One evening, upon our tellings of loving mores, I said, "Just wait till we get to heaven and God will look at you and say, 'Yes, she loved you more'."

To this my husband replied, "Then He will turn to me and wink."

I said, "God doesn't wink!"

"He does and I will prove it with a verse", he said walking out of the room to the computer.

As I was in the kitchen cooking supper, I heard him read,  "And the times of this ignorance God winked at;".

This just tickled me, just to know that God winks.

But a little while later as the verse sunk in, I had to start wondering.

Did he just call me ignorant?

Two Weeks and No Shampoo

11:44, 2006-Dec-7 .. Posted in Natural Beauty .. 2 comments .. Link
Today marks 2 weeks of cleaning my hair without using shampoo.  Several weeks ago I started visiting welltellme.com and some of the women were doing this. So, I thought I would try it.

Instead of using shampoo, I use baking soda and water.  At welltellme.com, they said to use 2 tablespoons of baking soda, but I have had to use about a third of a cup.  Mix the baking soda just enough to make a paste.

I scoop out some of the mixture and start massaging my scalp, just like I would do with shampoo.

Rinse really good.  (After a good rinsing, my hair is "squeeky" clean.)

I do a final rinse (of the ends, not the scalp, unless you have dandruff)  with 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar mixed with some water.  The vinegar smell goes away in just a few minutes.

This is what we are giving some people for Christmas.  We used a coffee can (saved from a camp meeting this summer), 4 coke cans, 4 tin cans, 1 juice can, 1 tuna fish or cat food can, and a new funnel.  We put it all together with a clothes hanger and caulking for the neck and head.  We used 2 bigger screws for the eyes and the bottom of a coke can for the mouth screwed on with 2 screws.
Cost: $1.00 for caulking and $1.24 for the funnel.

This is a wonderful website.  It is kinda like the Energizer Bunny, it just keeps going and going.

It is encouraging to the small land owner.

This family lives on a fifth of an acre lot.  They have cultivated a tenth of it, that is half their land.  They have raised 6,000 pounds of vegetables and produce on this tenth of an acre.

Just amazing!!

Go to www.pathtofreedom.com to see them.  You can also download video!!

The Book of Ruth in a Name Study

03:13, 2006-Nov-26 .. Posted in Bible Studies .. 0 comments .. Link
History tells us that names in the Bible had certain meanings.  In fact there are many places were the Word of God gives us those meanings in the midst of the story.  There are many characters  and places in the book of Ruth.  There names and meanings are listed.    Read the names and there meanings, then read the short summary of the book of Ruth. All names have been replaced with there meanings.  It is interesting to see how the name meanings line up with the events that took place.

Places:
Bethlehem - “God’s House of Bread”
Judah - “Land of Promise”
Moab - “I’m my Grandfather’s Son”

People:
Elimelech - “God is My King”
Naomi - “Delightfully Pleasant”
Mara - “Bitterness”
Mahlon - “Sick”
Chilion - “Wasting Away”
Orpah - “Neck & Back”
Ruth - “Friendship”
Boaz - “In His Strength”
Obed - “Serving”
Jesse - “Wealthy”
David - “Beloved”
Jesus - “Jehovah is Salvation”

It came to pass in the days when people did what was right in thier own eyes that there was a famine in “God’s House of Bread” in the “Land of Promise”.  A man named “God is My King” and his wife “Delightfully Pleasant” took their two sons, “Sick” and Wasting Away” to the land of “I’m my Grandfather’s Son” (an Icon of Godlessness and Sin).  While there “Sick” marries “Neck & Back” and “Wasting Away” marries “Friendship”.

Then God’s judgement falls and He takes the lives of “God is My King”, “Sick”, and “Wasting Away”.  This leaves “Delightfully Pleasant”, “Neck & Back” and “Friendship” alone in the place called “I’m My Grandfather’s Son” (an Icon of Godlessness and Sin).

“Delightfully Pleasant”, “Neck & Back” and “Friendship” start to travel to the “Land of Promise”, but “Neck & Back” doesn’t want to go.  She turns her back on “Delightfully Pleasant” and goes back to “I’m my Grandfather’s Son” (an Icon of Godlessness and Sin).  But, “Friendship” stays with “Delightfully Pleasant” and together they go to the “Land of Promise”.

When they get to “God’s House of Bread”, “Delightfully Pleasant” tells her people not to call her “Delightfully Pleasant” any more, but to call her “Bitterness” because God had dealt bitterly with her.  This is the last time “Bitterness” is mentioned.  How can you have “Bitterness” in “God’s House of Bread”?

Then we find “Friendship” gleaning in the fields of “In His Strength”.
“In Hs Strength” then asks “Friendship” to glean in his fields only with his maidens.  And to drink from the vessels of water that his men drew.
“Delightfully Pleasant” told “Friendship” that “In His Strength” was a Kinsman to “God is My King” and that he could be her Kinsman Redeemer.

“Friendship” went to “In His Strength” and requested that he be her Kinsman Redeemer.  He agreed to do all that was required of him.

“In His Strength” called “Friendship” who was a citizen of “I’m My Grandfather’s Son” (an Icon of Godlessness and Sin), but came to the”Land of Promise” in “God’s House of Bread”, as a virtuous woman.

On that day “In His Strength” purchased all that belonged to “God is My King”, “Sick” and “Wasting Away” at the hand of “Delightfully Pleasant”.

“In His Strength” married “Friendship” and begat “Serving”.  “Serving” begat “Wealthy”.  And then“Wealthy” begat “Beloved”, who is in the lineage of “Jehovah is Salvation”.

So in a way, “Friendship’s” conversion from “I’m My Grandfather’s Son” (an Icon of Godlessness and Sin) to the “Land of Promise” in “God’s House of Bread” and her subsequent redemption by “In His Strength”, lead to OUR salvation through faith in “Jehovah is Salvation”.

Have a wonderful Sabbeth.

Funny Fridays "WAKE UP, THERE'S A CRAZY MAN SHOOTIN' MY CHICKENS"

04:30, 2006-Nov-24 .. Posted in Funny Fridays .. 1 comments .. Link
I thought I would start a new category entitled "Funny Fridays" and post some of the funny things that have happened to our family or our friends.

The one I want to tell you today happened last summer.  We live in a subdivision.  Our house sets back away from the other houses, so we have more privacy than anyone else.  Our neighborhood is very quiet, so you can imagine how startled we were when we heard gunfire at 2:00am in our backyard.

I woke up and looked out of our bedroom window and could see the fire come out of the gun as it was firing again.  I woke my husband up yelling, "There's a crazy man in the chicken coop and he's shootin' my chickens!!"

My husband got up and went outside and hollered at the "crazy man".  It was my father-in-law, his father!! (they live downstairs)  He had his bedroom window open and heard the chickens squaking and thought he would see what was wrong with them.  A 'possom had gotten in the coop.  So he became the "Opossom-nator" and protected our chickens from this entruder.

What would we do without my "crazy"  father-in-law  "man"?

How much water would you need to have stored, if your water supply was suddenly cut off?

04:08, 2006-Nov-2 .. Posted in On The Homestead .. 1 comments .. Link
Lately, I have been reading "Making the Best of the Basics" by James Stevens.  In the book, he gives ideas and formulas for figuring out how much water along with other staples you might need if some disaster took place.

He says every person in your home needs 2 gallons of water per day.  So if I wanted to store up enough water to last us for 2 weeks, there are 6 people in our household, 6 x 2=12,  12 x 14= 168.
168   gallons of water!!!

     Well, I've got 4 gallons.  I guess that's a start.

The Strange Woman of Proverbs

08:56, 2006-Apr-28 .. Posted in Bible Studies .. 4 comments .. Link
There are many different women mentioned in Proverbs.  We are told of the evil woman, the whorish woman, the gracious woman, the fair woman, the virtuous woman, the wise woman, the brawling woman, the angry woman, the contentious woman, the adulterous woman, the odius woman, the foolish woman, and the fearful woman,  But the first woman that God chose to mention in Proverbs and the one He mentions the most is the “strange woman”.

We find her first in Proverbs 2:16.  God tells us that wisdom, knowledge, discretion, and understanding will deliver us from her.

This strange woman has a flattering tongue.  Her words are smooth and candy-coated (Proverbs 5:3).  She knows what to say and when to say it, so she may get her way.  She is a divider amoung the people.  She does not like to see the women getting along or the men.  She likes to see the flock scattered.  She is smooth and deceitful.  She has forsaken “the guide of her youth” (2:17).  This guide is her husband, the head of her home. The feminist movement of that day said she needed no man.  A man should not rule over her. She has set herself to not notice him.  When he talked to her, she looked the other way and changed the subject.  When he came home, she acted like he was not even there.  She dishonored him, belittled him in private and in public.  She did not put much value in him or what he had to say.  She pushed him to get her way.  She found fault with him.  She despised him.  She has broken her vows of marriage.  And worse than all of that she has forgotten “the covenant of her God” (2:17).  Her eyes have been turned away from an Almighty God.  She has forgotten that there was a blood covenant made just for her.  She has forgotten the promise of a coming Messiah.  Now she seeks another power and serves him instead.  Her paths lead “unto the dead” (2:18).  Instead of going to an All-Knowing God, she seeks out soothsayers, palm readers, and fortune tellers.  She looks to the stars for her future, instead of their Creator for His will.  She dabbles in witchcraft and the magics.  She would rather serve the devil and his crowd than God, who holds her very life in his hands.  She has such an influence on people that when they come into her little circle they are never themselves again (2:19).  She leads them into the very mouth of hell (5:5).

God, in his infinite wisdom, devotes almost a whole chapter in Proverbs warning us about her.  A warning for men of all ages to stay away from her.  And I believe, a warning also to the women to watch the paths we choose to walk, that we not become like her.

In Proverbs 7, we are told a story of a young man, void of understanding, who has sought out to find this strange woman.  He came out at night, “passing through the streets near her corner” (vs 8).  “He went the way to her house.”

The first thing we notice about her here, is her appearance.  She was dressed as a harlot (modern day prostitute-vs 10).  Maybe her blouse was too tight, too short, too low cut, and showing more than covering.   Maybe her skirt was the same.   Maybe her make-up was bright and bold.  Proverbs 6:25 tells us of her physical beauty.  Just by her very appearance, she becomes the enemy of married women and the adversary of mothers.

She is loud, stubborn, and rebellious (vs 11).  Remember, she is a flatterer.  Her mouth is a deep pit (Proverbs 22:14).  Just as mice are allured to the cheese on a trap, so are her victims allored to her by her words.

In verse 14, we see she has taken something as holy as a peace offering and twisted it to use it for her own devices.  Remember, she has forgotten “the covenant of her God” (2:16).  She went to the temple, not to worship, not to make a sacrifice for her sins, but because it was a ritual.  She made her offering, sang a hymn or two, shook a few hands then took the remainder of her offering home.  It was supposed to be eaten with friends, but this was to be set for a trap.  She had food ready to eat.

With her smooth, candy-coated words, she befriends the young man.  She has done all this for him (vs15).  She has made a bed ready for him, covered in the finest sheets and blankets that this world can offer (vs16).  Remember, she has forsaken the “guide of her youth” (2:16).  She does not even call him her husband, she refers to him as the “goodman” (7:19).  She has taken off her wedding band for the moment.

Dear lady, if this is you, I beckon you to come to an All-Knowing, All-Powerful, loving God and ask him to forgive you of your sins and to come into your heart and save you from this life and a place called Hell.

Dear Sir, if you see this strange woman in person or on the pages of a magazine, run away.  “Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.” (7:25)

Dear Woman, how can we stay on the straight and narrow path and not wonder off and become like her?   Dear Christian Woman, let’s dress as “becometh women professing godliness”(I Timothy 2:10)  Let’s make sure our skirts are long enough, so that even when we sit down, we don’t attract the eyes of another woman’s husband.  Let’s make sure our blouses are modest and covering more than showing.  Let’s have a meek and quiet spirit.  Let’s not forget the Saviour that gave His life for us.  Let’s read our Bibles and pray.  When we go to church, let’s worship Christ for who He is, for what He has done, and for what He is going to do.  Let’s not get caught up in rituals of “just going” every Sunday and Wednesday.

Let’s fall back in love with the man God gave us.  The man we were created for.  Don’t call him the “goodman”.  Call him your Knight in Shining Armour, your Prince Charming, your King, Mr. Wonderful.  Sarah called Abraham, lord, showing him the respect that a husband should be shown.  Mrs. Charles Spurgeon, who knew Greek and Hebrew, called her husband Tershatha, which means My Reverance in Greek.  While our husbands are out for the day, let’s pray for them and ask God to keep them safe.  When they come home, let’s be there with open arms ready to greet them.  When they talk, let’s listen intently to what they are saying.  Let’s honor them never belittling them, even in private.  Every husband has faults, but so does every wife. Let’s show them affection and love that they might not go looking for the strange women and fall into her trap.   Let’s admire them for who they are, the God given head of our home.

Christian Women, we must protect and guard our homes against this strange woman and her crowd.  Protecting and guarding, not with a gun standing at the door, but on our knees with our sword (Bible) ready for the intruder and our shield of faith in an Almighty God, who would love to hear  prayers of godly women asking for help in protecting our King (husband) and this next generation of little kings and queens.

Nate Saint, on a Wing and a Prayer

02:28, 2006-Mar-9 .. Posted in Book Reviews .. 1 comments .. Link

This book was very good.  Nate Saint was always interested in aviation.  He went into WW2 with the hopes of becoming a pilot, but the Lord had other plans.  After the war was over he was contacted by a missionary that had crashed her plane in El Real, Mexico.  Nate went to fix her plane and started praying about being a missionary.

Two years later (1948), he had fell in love, married Marj, and moved to Shell Mera (meda) a base in the jungles of Ecuador.

In 1952, Nate and Marj got to go back home to the States for a while.  While they were here, she had to buy enough clothes to last them for 5 years.  Can you imagine having to but enough clothes for your family to last them for 5 years?  Wow, what an undertaking.

Nate had a burden for the Auca (ou-ca) Indians.  These were savage people, but they needed to hear the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Auca means "naked savage" and that is exactly what the WERE.

Shell Oil Company came to the jungle to find oil.  They tried to make friendly contact with the Aucas, but were not successful.  At  one time, the Shell people thought if they dropped gifts from the plane that the natives would stop killing their employees.  When they made their first drop,  the natives started throwing their spears right before they started dropping gifts.  So in the natives mind, they hurt this giant bee and the gifts were what was coming out of it's wound.

But when Nate and his 4 missionary friends did this, the gifts were excepted by the Aucas.  They made the drops every Thursday and the Aucas were waiting.

They finally had a friendly contact with 2 Auca women and 1 Auca man.   But  because of a lie told by the Auca man, the next contact was not friendly but deadly.

All 5 men were speared to death.  But the families of these men stayed in the jungles of Ecuador and did make friendly contact and now 1 out of every 10 Aucas is a christian.
