I hear rubbing aloe vera on it several times a day helps alot. I have not tried this myself, but there is nothing in aloe vera that would be harmful, so it might be worth a try. Hope her eye gets better ASAP!
I get pink eye alot due to a condition I have called Rosacea. I haven't had one for over a year though because I started using sterile eye wipes for my eyelids once a day, but the old way that I used to treat pink eye was to wash my eye with a saline (salty) solution made with boiled and cooled water and a little salt disolved in the water. Then use a q-tip (I think that's what you call them over there - we call them cotton-tip buds) and run the saline solution over the eyelids, or you can use it as an eyewash. A doctor last year told me that another way to treat it is to use a teeny-tiny amount of baby shampoo diluted down with boiled and cooled water and wash the eye with that. He said lots of people had found success with that method. I tried it, but it didn't work for me, but that was before I found out that my pinkeye was due to the rosacea, so it might work for your wife.
I sympathise though - it's a horrible thing to have - makes you feel so tired and scratchy. Hope it goes away soon.

Here are some remedies I have come across in the past but haven't actually tried - hope one of them helps!
1. Chamomile tea bags - after brewing and they have cooled off, place on eyelids. Can also dip cotton balls in the tea and wash eyes with it and/or put a few drops in eyes with a different cotton ball.
2. Eyebright tea bags - same as above.
3. Colloidal Silver - few drops in eyes a couple of times a day.
All of these can be purchased at a health food store.
