~ This And That..... ...The Less Than Perfect Kitchen ~ |
The other day I did a post on the Less Than Perfect series and what I was doing to implement a heart of being thankful no matter how big or small my kitchen is. The first thing I tackled was the drinking/beverage area... You can see that post HERE
After tackling that task I worked on my Baking area.... knowing that fall and winter are my favorite times of year to bake. I knew I needed to implement something reliable and easy for me to access, especially on any given moment. I introduce you to my second centre done......

This located on the left hand corner of my kitchen sink, its only 1 of two counters that are big enough for me to do anything on and I wanted to utilize this space as much as possible.
Knowing even my drawer availability was limited I looked for creative ways to hold up my rolling pins. At first I did a google search on the price of such holders, only to be left not wanting to spend money... Then if by a single nudge to look beyond what I seen in my own kitchen, I casted my eyes upon the plate display that was hanging up on my wall with just one plate.... I thought I wonder, and sure enough the pins were a perfect fit(well almost my late grandmothers pin is slighter bigger than the other two, but still is able to rest nicely on the scrolls).

Here I have all the items I would need for whipping up anything good...ha ha. My Spices are on the left and the extracts on the right. What gets me excited about this area, is I no longer will have to go hunting in the "pantry" for the items as they will be at my finger tips.....Flour, Sugar, Baking Soda ect..
NOW TIME FOR MY COOKING? PREP AREA
This is the other section of my kitchen that I can do anything with, so to utilize this area just like my baking area. I made sure I grouped these items together as well.
Items I will need to prep the meals.
Now I do have spices and seasonings, but there is a spice pull down rack I can purchase at Lowes, that allows me to mount it either on the inside of the door or anywhere on the cabinet it self. The great thing about that spice rack is it pulls down and pulls up anytime its in use or not, hence being a space savor..
This is the only large drawer I have ....Period so to make do with what I have I decided to utilize the lil bins I had used in a similar fashion at the other house only this time you are able to see everything, and each gadget and gizmo is in a basket with similiar like items.

Then you have my pots and pans, now the bakeware I own is under neith the sink as the only items I have under there for cleaning are the dishwasher soap and dish soap its self, all the other cleaning supplies have been moved to the laundry area. Which then allowed room for me to place all my bake ware close by...
But my greatest achievement in all this was my less than perfect kitchen is now CLEAN
and accessible: I will show you what I mean
BEFORE: Inaccessible, screaming clean me!

AFTER:

My Hutch which was what used to house our home school items in the old house on post, now makes its debut as a hutch it was intended for to house our glassware, silver, plates.... it is even housing my table linens as well. Its always good to make do with what you already have so your hard earned money is still there in the bank...
I hope you have enjoyed my finale on my Less Than Perfect Kitchen...(although I am sure I will find more creative ways to "jazz it up".... So what things are you doing to help make your kitchen time more useful and productive? |

~ Do You Take Cream & Sugar.........My Less Than Perfect Kitchen ~ |
If you didnt guess by my title, then you maybe wondering what in the world am I talking about. Well chicka's its my part in the doing of what Cheryl over at Coppers Wife did on a series she titles My Less Than Perfect Kitchen. Granted the post series is well over a year old but I still found the suggestions and ideas to be most helpful in my conquest to taming the disorganization I have going on with trying to unpack and get settled into my new to us(gotta include the family) homestead. So again Amanda over at Wholly By Grace THANK YOU for the links for each of the posts from Coppers WIfe and for graciously showing off your Less Than Perfect Kitchen too, some of you what you have going on has sparked a "hmmm I wonder if that will work in my kitchen too".
Now you wouldnt think I would just do a short blup and not post my own pictures (as that wouldnt be fair) so without further ado I give thee my Less Than Perfect Kitchen Specialty Drink Area

Remember this? I found it outside the on post dumpster and I had to rescue it!

Then My son and I did this!

Then I made it into that!(a outdoor reading nook for my bird books)
WELLLLLLLLL--------------------------------------------------------------
Knowing that my Less Than Perfect Kitchen in our new home was lacking in the area of cabinetry and countertops I had a AHAAAA moment and went out to the shop and grabbed this Perfect piece of fine furnature and decided to implement its use in the Kitchen area...
Behold my beverage Centre

This is the bottom where the 2 doors close, this will house out of season drinks, and pitchers
( I am now on the hunt for replacement knobs to hold the shelf unit so I can implement more space saving)

This will house our coffee cups and tea cups
(would you believe I am still looking for a coffee cup, and my saucers ....

We have here a variety of teas in the basket, and coffee in the jar
(which allows me to know how low we get down)
To the right of the Pot, we have sugar, some spoons, and mints
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This was such a fun and innovative way for me to accomadate something I already owned, hence saving money. So what innovative ways have you done as of late to help keep things simple and sweet in your Less Than Perfect Kitchen for those favorite beverages? |

~ PRIORITIES ~ |

The online definition from the Merriam Webster Dictionary states that priorities are something given or meriting attention before competing alternatives.
I wonder then if that definition is so, how many of us ladies are truly prioritizing our time and talents to the proper headship of our God given order?.... I know for one, myself is included in that question. It appears from an understanding and a over hearing of a conversation that my daugher was having with someone else that I Jeannie beloved wife and helpmeet to Jason and mother of two spunky children have not been keeping a proper order of the priorities given to me. I have been so focused on this house buying bit that my own set of standards for a orderly(not perfect even) home has fallen very short to the way side. I have spent these past few months groveling over the fact we have had issues with buying this house we are under contract with, that my own blessed home with which we are living in now is falling to the way side of keeping step. Sure I have my Home Management Binder staring back at me right now but the idea of prioritizing what I have allowed to become the norm now( mess, chaos, and stress) I am already beginning to feel overwhelmed with the task I am sure the Lord wants me to get back into and that is
as the the wife of a deployed soldier: Have I taken the time to really pray for him and possibly what he would want of me still even if he is on the other side of the world.
how about my role as my childrens teacher, let alone their mother: Am I making fun time outside of the activities we do in school, My own daughter was telling a fellow member at our church that we never do anything fun except in school... I know what she meant and it stung my heart... I have grown so weary and tired and stressed out that I save the fun for just in school time, but nothing out side of the school setting.
Or how about my time with the Lord. Has it really been that long since I truly sat down and read from the Word, and not just pieces here and there for what seems fitting at the moment.... Are I not always telling those around me that its not enough to just know the WORD but to Live the WORD.. So am I Living the Word, am I GOD doing and being all that you sent me out to be?
How about my extracuricular activites.... Yep I have taken on Sunday school, then there is that task of Ladies Ministries and cant forget Praise team...... What else is waiting in the wing for me to take on...ahhh yes the recovery groups child watch.... but at least with that last one I havent given my full go ahead on that, and as I told the gentleman I have to seriously pray about adding in any other "outside" stuff even if its all in the name of the LORD, cause sometime myself included in there can get so wrapped up in doing doing doing, we truly lose sight of the gift in giving to ourselves own well being, we forget to learn the polite way to say Thank you for thinking of me for taking on such a task but I will have to gently pass.
Yes Yes, Priorities, remembering the important stuff before taking on any other. I think this week is as good as any to re evaluate those tasks.
1:We are starting our first full week of school this week after a blunder last week,
2: My home cleaning will be taken into steps as the kids and I will re learn to delegate each zone in the house
3: my prayer and Bible study will take center stage, its just not enough to preach it, I literally have to walk it....
4:For my husband I am going to send him a love letter telling him how special he is to me and after all we have gone through he is still here with me....
5:The kids oh the kids I wont forget about them I think this Wednesday is a good day to break out and have some fun.... maybe a surprize trip to the library to get their first library cards ever will be in order...
Yea, I hear the Lord calling on me to re prioritize the stuff in my life cause in there He will truly set me free....
