~ The Frailties of Country Living ~

Hen and Rooster II

As with anything when it comes to living life in the country dealing with the travesty of death is always for certain. Since yesterday the kids and I had been on the look out for Barbara the red hen we aquired when we bought the house. She was one of the first creatures that greeted and took us in as though she had been a part of our family from her early chick years. It was suprizing to see her behave in that way especially when the sellers said she wouldnt let them go near her. For us it was a different story maybe its because Barbara and I shared the same colour of red hair that made us say hello to one another each morning or quite possibly the way my darling daughter would always be on the look out to give her some chicken feed, well whatever the case it was, she was apart of us.

Sadly it is a way of life that we found her today but not alive but in death. She was in one of her many roaming spots that my daughter tumbled upon her. Darling daughter is taking it ok, as she knew death was upon this poor hen...surely she was old and these past few days we noticed she didnt smell all that well either. This is a great lesson to both our children whom have grown up in the URBAN lifestyle that living in the Country is not all pansies and ponies..... Life and Death can strike at any given moment.....Its just up to us to understand and move on.....
