Striving To Reach The Goal

Sunday, April 20, 2008 - Sermon Notes

Here are some of my sermon notes from December's Revival meetings in 2007 I thought I would post them, as these were one of my favorites. I appreciated it that Brother Nathaniel had directed most of his sermons toward the youth, as we don't always have that.

"Youth Facing The Challenges Of Today"

       Brother Nathaniel Hindal                            November 3,2007

There have always been challenges for youth. A few challenges youth might face today:

 1) "I can do as I please while I am younge."

Galations 6:7,8

God sees and knows what we sow. We reap more than what we sow. There is a reward for doing evil, and a reward for doing good. Strive to obtain the reward of doing what is right.

 Job 4:8

 Psalm 126:5,6

 Our efforts will be rewarded!

A few young people in the Bible who thought they could do as they please:

1)The Prodical Son.

2)Absolam

It is not worthwhile to do as I please while I am young.

 2) Putting off chosing to serve the Lord.

 Ecclesiastes 12:1

Youth is a time to remember our Creator, not ourselves.

 2 Corinthians 6:2

We need to chose to serve the Lord while we have the oppertunity to do so ~ TODAY.

 Hebrews 4:15

Tomorrow may never come. We should not put off serving the Lord for another time. We need to chose to serve Him right now.

We need to always be sensitive to that still, small voice.

 3) Taking responsibility.

Lamantations 3:27

Responsibility brings maturity. We need to have good work habits. Now is the time to start them, while we are young. We need to do the best of our ability.

Responsible youth will be responsible for their actions. They will not shift the blame onto another person, but take the blame themselves.

 1 John 2:14

REAL strength comes from knowing, and doing the will of God.

We can overcome temptation if we pray.

 4) Self-control.

Youth are to be sober. One that is thinking right will not say things without FIRST thinking about them. A sober young person considers anothers feelings, and tries not to say things that may hurt the other.

We need to have patience and confidence in God WHEREVER He has placed us.

A youth that waits on God, if He asks God to direct their life, He will.

 5) Idols that are around today.

 1 John 5:18-21

Anything that takes our affection from the true God is an idol. We should keep our focus on what God wants us to do.

 A few idols:

Clothing - -  Are the boys setting their affection on the most expensive pants and shirts? Are the girls buying the most expensive material to make their dresses with?

Vehicles - - A vehicle is for getting around in, not for show.

The electronic world - -  We DON'T have to have all the newest gadgets. Most people spend WAY too much time with the electronic world.

 6) To respect authority.

Wise young people will look for the good in their parents.

If we react in bitterness toward our parents, our homes will most likely be a dissaster in the future if we get married.

We need to respect our parents for being our parents. We need to pray for their weaknesses.

We also need to respect other authorities God has placed over us. We need to follow and respect others.

 7) Purity in life

 2 Timothy 2:22

1 Timothy 4:12; 5:22

God desires that all young people keep themselves pure.

When we see wrong things we need to look away.

 Daniel 1:8

Young people need to purpose in their hearts to keep themselves pure.

Those who are courting need to have a hands-off relationship.

 8) The challenge of catching the vision of things eternal.

 Proverbs 3:5,6

It is good for youth to read and study into the early anabaptist churches.  It will give them a greater respect for the church and the people therein.

 Hebrews 11:24-27

The world has a lot to offer, but there is more in Jesus.

If youth in times back then could be faithful, so can us youth today.

 Ecclesiates 11:9

We need to make choices that will make a difference in eternity.
