Abundant Springs

My two oldest started school yesterday. First day of High School and 4th grade.

We're the first county in the state to start school with the rest of them beginning next week or later.  We start early August (usually the first week) and around the 24th of May or so.  We also have a week off in October (I like that!), 2-3 days over Thanksgiving, 2 weeks for Winter Break, 1 week in March for Spring Break and then schools out in May.

I believe that a law has been passed for next year stating they can't start school any earlier than the middle of August.  I think that means we'll get out some time in June.

Man....I sure hope they keep that October week.  It's nice to have a week out of school when no one else is...it's also a teriffic season for travelling!

I'm seriously thinking of Homeschooling Lily when the time comes.  She just turned one so I have time but, I'm not sure I have the "personality" it might take but I do so believe that it might be the best for her.

I know someone out there had the same doubt(s) before the took the plunge.  I sure would appreciate some insight.  I've been reading a lot about how to begin Homeschooling, particularly in our state.  It's pretty easy to do here in Florida, at least in our county but, we may be living in Virginia at the time so I'll be researching rules and regs there...just in case.

Is there anywhere else in the country starting school this early?
