Welcome to the 56th Homesteading Carnival. There are just some random posts in this one. :) The 56th Homesteading Carnival - Just AroundFirst, let's take a look at Mrs. Tiffany of Natural Family Living Blog tells about Freedom Gardens - Grow Your Own Food. She said that "I have been reading about WWII Victory/Freedom Gardens lately. Iam not sure when the concept began but our history is rich with stories of people who used times of war and economic depression (like The Great Depression) to get proactive and start growing their own food. During WWII you could find posters encouraging you to start your own garden and avoid the restrictions of food rations and to become more self sufficient during those stressful times."It's good to know how to grow your own food. You never know when that will be useful. And it's much more healthy too! Now let's head over to erica.biz. She has some great tips on When Should You Buy Real Estate — And When Is It Better to Rent? She said that "by the time you’re done reading this, you’ll have an excellent idea of exactly when higher-priced houses will fall in price, and you’ll have an armload of data to assist you in determining when a house is priced correctly — no matter where it is or what its price."Take a look if you are interested in buying a house or are going to be buying a house. Let's take a look at someone else's life for a moment. Dora Renee'Wilkerson of Y-2k Hippie tells about when her parents came down from Ohio. ![]() Some of the things they did were made berry jam, fresh bread and cream cheese, made shampoo, and homemade vinegar.Very good pictures, which you can see in her post, 06/19/08. Go check 'em out! ![]() Next we will take a look at Dexter Cattle the Mini Cow with Larry Bogart of Measure Twice, Cut Once. Mr. Bogart asked in his post, "Why Dexter’s? We have been great fans of the heritage breeds movement for sometime and we knew that we would be picking one of the older breeds, so that narrowed down the search. We first wanted a Kerry cow but we couldn’t find very many of those - a bit too rare. The next runner up was the Dexter, a very old Irish breed."This is very useful information if you are planning on getting a cow or two. Check it out. :) Speaking of farm animals, over at My Cup Runneth Over, Mrs. Chas gives a step-by-step, photos-included, called Our First Chicken Day on how to butcher a chicken. She said that "Saturday was our first attempt at chicken butchering. We got together with some dear friends of ours and did it together so they could teach us how and what to do."We did not get to butcher our roosters this year, but this will be helpful in butchering them next year! Mrs. Ashley of Jonash... Two of a Kind Working on a Full House also has some Sugar Info I think you might want to take a look at. "Have you ever heard of Icumsa 45 sugar? According to estimation each person consumes an estimated 24 kilos a year – or 52.8lbs!! And most, if not all of the sugar you ingest is going to be Icumsa 45 sugar."It's very good to know about the food you buy from the store and where it comes from. Don't you think so? :) Now let's take a refreshing walk with Mrs. Ashley through her garden gate as she has some news about her growing garden in Updates In Gardening and More. She tells about "My garden, half-tended to, is growing strongly. We should start eating green beans soon and will probably eat them as a staple most of the rest of the summer. Some of my beans are purple, which I find hauntingly beautiful among the dark green leaves of the plants and so unique!"It will be so fun to soon be picking our own veggies from the garden and eating them. Mrs. Ashley also has some more updates about her home in that post. While we're still in the garden, why don't we hop on over to the flower beds with ZooKeeperCat. They have just been dug over at ZooKeeperCat's. She said in her post, First Dirt, "I spent two hours digging over a flowerbed today. For the last two years, my beds have suffered serious neglect in favour of the market garden. Now that I'm no longer doing that...well, actually, I feel like myself again."I can't wait to see some pictures of her flowerbed when it is done. Go and read the rest of her post. Stephanie of Stop The Ride has a question to ask -Would you eat that? She said that this question was - "This question is for the meat eaters out there. We have a lamb that is butchering age. I like lamb and order it occasionally in restaurants, but cooking it myself is new territory to me."I am not sure I would eat what she is talking about. But find out for yourself in her post. It may tingle your tastebuds. Alright, to satisfy our tastebuds now, let's all have a piece of Berry Pie with Grandma Rosie of Grandma Rosie's Texas Home. It sounds great once you read the recipe. :) I can't wait to have this as a summer treat for my family! Now let's go with GP of Innside Montana-Your Home at the Range, because has a question to ask you in Viva Simplicity... She gives a list of things that were so simple that they could such delight to her. A wonderful post, I must say. HowToMe shows us How To Make a Birthday Tablecloth. They give a complete list of the supplies you will need to make this. They give great sewing tips and lots of how-tos. And finally, Mrs. Amy from SimpleFolk has an interesting book in her library, called A Simple Woman's Daybook. Perhaps we should take a walk to her library and check this book out. It's very interesting to read. Perhaps we should all have one of these books. Hope you all enjoyed the Carnival! Rachel I hope you have enjoyed reading the thoughts of a fourteen-year-old girl from the country."You can do all things through CHRIST who strengthens you!" Philippians 4:13

Saturday Psalm & Praise - Battle Hymn Of The RepublicI just learned the entire song a few weeks ago. But, it has always been a favourite, even if I am off-tune when I sing it! :o) Battle Hymn Of The Republic
His truth is marching on.by Julia W. Howe, 1819-1910 Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord, He is tramping out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed His fateful lightening of His terrible swift sword, Glory, glory hallelujah! Glory, glory hallelujah! Glory, glory hallelujah! His truth is marching on! I have seen Him in the watchfires of an hundred circling camps, They have builded Him an alter in the evening dews and damps; I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps, His day is marching on. Glory, glory hallelujah! Glory, glory hallelujah! Glory, glory hallelujah! His day is marching on! In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me; As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free, God is marching on. Glory, glory hallelujah! Glory, glory hallelujah! Glory, glory hallelujah! God is marching on! I am thinking this song was put to fit into the future battle where the devil will be defeated. I know that the first verse was from Revelation, "Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord, He is tramping out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed His fateful lightening of His terrible swift sword, His truth is marching on." The Sword that came out of His mouth; the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored... hmm... Look it up. :) I hope you are participating in the Saturday Psalm & Praise Meme. It's so easy to participate in a meme; you just post a post! Rachel I hope you have enjoyed reading the thoughts of a fourteen-year-old girl from the country."You can do all things through CHRIST who strengthens you!" Philippians 4:13

Fruit of the Spirit Friday - All The Fruits...Bible verse of the Day: I am again participating in Mrs. Sampson's Meme, The Fruit Of The Spirit Friday. I forgot to do it last week, sorry. Onto the post! The Fruit of the Spirit are so simple, and so easy to follow. It is easy to love someone. It is easy to have joy everyday. What about being peaceable with everyone you live with? Longsuffering? It's also easy to be gentle to one who is not being gentle to you. Goodness, easy to be good to someone too. Faithful, c'mon, help me out here! Meekness, the same as being humble. Temperance: you can control your temper, and can control your own actions. This week's lesson is being peaceable with everyone, because "a soft answer turns away wrath," as the Bible clearly tells us. Proverbs 15:18 says, "A wrathful man stirreth up strife, but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife." Also, if you go to chapter three, verse 30, it says, "Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm." So, if you don't have a good reason (which most of the time no one has a good reason for arguing) there shouldn't be any strife or contention in your house. Proverbs 21:9 says "It is better to dwell in a corner of a housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house." If you want peace in your home, you are to "If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceable with all men." That is Romans 12:18. What about James 3:18? "And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace." "The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention before it be meddled with." Proverbs 17:14. Also, check out Proverbs 18:19, where it says that an offened brother is harder to win than a strong city. Ephesians 4:26, don't let the sun do down with your anger. Matthew 5:39-41, don't insist on rights. Since I have given you a few verses to look at and ponder, you can decide for yourself if you have peace in your home, and if not, how to accomplish having peace. In case anyone here has never read the entire verses of the Fruit of the Spirit, here they are: "Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness, Temperance: against such there is no law." That is in Galations 5: 22-23. Read the verses above those ones to get a better understanding of what Paul is talking about. I admit that I haven't been some of the above with Blondie lately. Since she cut her paw, I have gotten a lot more frustrated with her for not holding still while I put her bandage on or put a plastic bag over it to keep it from getting wet. I think it would qualify for these Fruits: Love, Longsuffering, Gentleness, and Temperance. I need to have more love for her, than just thinking she is being a pain in the backside with her paw. Longsuffering would be for dealing with her instead of getting mad every time she gets her bandage off. I need to be more Gentle with her when I am dealing with her. Controling my temper is one of the worst things I need to work on right now. I haven't been feeling very well these past couple of days, and I am afraid that I haven't been a very kind and gentle, including meek and loving sister to my siblings. Or the animals for that matter. But I am not perfect, and so I falter in many things. Everyone needs prayer, and so do I. :o) Thank you for reading this week's Fruit of the Spirit Friday Meme. Rachel I hope you have enjoyed reading the thoughts of a fourteen-year-old girl from the country."You can do all things through CHRIST who strengthens you!" Philippians 4:13

Fruit Of The Spirit Friday Meme - Temperance and GentlenessBible Verse of the Day: I am going to tell you a story that goes with one of the Fruits, and tell me if you think that it goes with it or a different one. Temperance, and Gentleness. I'm not always these things, as it may be hard to believe from seeing and reading my blog. My blog has a quiet sense to it. It gives off the reflection that I am well-mannered, very ladylike girl who always obeys her parents, and is kind and loving to her siblings. Well, that is not the way it is. I'm not always kind to my younger siblings, or my older ones for that matter. I get bad attitudes just like everyone else. I may be mad at someone and not want to have anything to do with them, which only leads to strife. The reason it leads to strife is because if one is mad at the other, when the first tries to talk to the mad, the mad is mean, and hurts the firsts' feelings by talking in a mean way. Therefore, you have two mean people who don't want to have anything to do with each other, and are mean to the other children. So, you end up with a house full of mean kids. Only yesterday I was not loving and kind, now this morning when I was frustrated with Isaac and Caleb because I wanted to finish writing in my journal. But I will tell you of an example that would agree with the paragraph above this one. The bucks had knocked out their light, as did the does when we went down to feed them yesterday morning. When we came up, and I had just gotten all of my barn clothes off, and put my nice blue skirt on, Eric comes and tells me that we needed to put new lights in. I got angry because I didn't want to go out in the cold again and smell like the barn anymore. So, as a result, I was in a bad mood. We had to see if we could find two 60-watt bulbs in the addition because the darn goats had broken all of the ones we put it there. After not finding not one, we took a 40-watt down there, and since I was in a bad mood, I wasn't listening to Eric about how we needed one for the bucks as well. When I thought I would be able to go in, Eric tells me, "I need another light." I got angry about this as well. (I had a headache from hitting my head on the garage door, which I couldn't see because of my hood.) I was upset, and wanted to go in. I stood on our porch while he got another light bulb. While I was waiting for him to finish installing the new bulb, I was feeling rather sad at the way I was acting toward my brother. I knew it wasn't his fault that I had hit my head, and not his fault I hadn't wanted to go back down there. It was mine and mine alone. I usually feel sick when I am mean to my younger siblings and I know I shouldn't be, as I did then. I was not paying attention to how Eric might be feeling, just my own selfish feelings. I wasn't loving my brother with a Christian love; I was loving myself and nursing my own selfish feelings, hateful words and actions. Last night, before Mom prayed with us, she asked us to ask the people we had offended to forgive us. I asked Eric to forgive me for the way I had been treating him. Then I asked God to forgive me for the way I had been acting toward my brother. It made me feel better knowing that I would have another chance to be kind and loving to my brothers and sisters tomorrow, and that I had not only been given forgiveness from my brother, but from the Lord also. Why don't we reflect on this verse: "25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." You can read the entire Fruit of the Galations 5:22-23 Rachel I hope you have enjoyed reading the thoughts of a thirteen-year-old girl from the country."You can do all things through CHRIST who strengthens you!" Saturday Psalm & Praise - Psalm 19Psalm 19 Mom, at 1am last night, posted her SP&P, and I was reminded to do mine. I am doing Psalm 19 because that is today's date. Psalm 19
1The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork. 2Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. 3There is no speech now language, where their voice is not heard. 4Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tabernacle for the sun, 5Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. 6His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the end of it: there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. 7The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. 8The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. 9The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. 10More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. 12Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. 13Keep back they servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression 14Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. If you would like to participate in the meme, pick a praise song or Psalm, post it, sign the Mr. Linky on Mom's post, and leave a comment telling her you did it. I was reading my Bible today, in Revelation. I have a fascination with prophecies and predictions of what is to come in the future years. The Seven Seals, what Christ told John to say to the Seven Churches of Asia, the coming of the Beast and what would happen before, after and during his reign, what will be loosed from the Bottomless Pit. I feel very sorry for those who will have taken the Mark of the Beast and those who will still be here during the time when God pours out His wrath on the people and the earth. I was very interested in the types of Angels that would be coming down to earth, and the four and twenty saints that sit around God’s throne. It is very interesting. I think all Christians should read it at least once and study it. I think you will find some very important information in those small 22 chapters of Revelation! Sincerely, Lady Rachel It wouldn't let me link anything, so I will do that later. :) I hope you have enjoyed reading the thoughts of a thirteen-year-old girl from the country."You can do all things through CHRIST who strengthens you!" My Saturday Psalm & Praise - Psalm 27 - The Lord Is My Shepheard...Since my entry I had typed up is not on this computer, and I don't want to mess with getting it off right now, I am posting my SP&P for tomorrow! I thought this was a good one: Psalm 27 1The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? 2When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. 3Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. 4One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. 5For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. 6And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD. 7Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me. 8When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek. 9Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. 10When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up. 11Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies. 12Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty. 13I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. 14Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. The 24th Homesteading Carnival: The Carnival of Randomness!!!!Hello and Welcome to the 24th Homesteading Carnival!
The "edition" for the Homesteading Carnival this time is Lots of FUN! I hope you enjoy your trip with me to visit Grandma Rosie's, Rebekah and Bethany's, and Nola's kitchens to see what they are cooking up for the Holidays. Then we'll see a few different bloggers for some sewing things they're doing, and take a look at how to make the presents a bit more pleasurable to the eye with Chas. And last of all, we'll take a look at a few different types of "random" posts I found. So, once again I tell you to... ENJOY!![]() We'll start out with some recipes for Thanksgiving, since it's coming up, and you want to have it all planned out! First we have some recipes from Grandma Rosie. First she is going to make Golden Potato Root Mash to go with the turkey and gravy. "Let's go back to our roots for a better taste--and more vital health! I can imagine forgoing the pleasure of creamy mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving, but it's healthier to avoid eating so many white foods." It's good to learn about our roots as well as the food we eat! She is going to make the desserts now. She'll start out with Sweet Potato-Chocolate Nut Cake. It's flavourful and colourful. "The colors and flavor of this moist cake are a knockout." I don't like sweet potatoes, but this one I might like! Let's go back in time to make this dessert, and learn a little about the history of Thanksgiving. This dessert is Indian Pudding. You can make this "...traditional dessert ahead of time and let it cool while you use the oven for the turkey. Reheat it and serve it with vanilla ice cream or whipped topping." She also gives a bit of information about when Thanksgiving was made a national holiday. You can see a complete Thanksgiving Menu at Mom's Adventure. Nola gives what they're having for Thanksgiving in full! Lots of yummy stuff on her list. You may have forgotten something like "Turkey, Ham, Giblet Gravy, Dressing, Cranberry Sauce, Sweet Potatoes ~with and without Marshmallows, Fruit Salad, Grandmother's Dip, Tortilla Roll-Ups." And you can't forget the delicious pies she'll be making! "Pecan, Cherry, Chess, Pumpkin, and Apple Pie!" Sounds like a very yummy dinner and an even more delicious dessert afterwards! While we are still in the kitchen, why don't we start planning dinner for tonight? Rebekah and Bethany have a great Meatloaf recipe to have with mashed potatoes, creamed peas, and carrots. They give you instructions on how to mix the ingredients, and include pictures for you to look at! I call this the "Sewing" section. Because Miss Ashley of Jonash... Two of a Kind Working on a Full House has some sewing things she'd like to share, and you may learn a bit about her two Munchkins!. She says, "Right after Samuel was born, I wanted to show in a tangable way, that our family now had another member. After Elijah's arrival, I could not wait to add his name to this frame - but we had to special order his name card." She posted a picture of the frame she is talking about. Before we leave, why don't we take a look at Samuel's Pillow. Then she tells about how Samuel helps her make it: "Samuel was facinated by the sewing machine - I let him take pins from me and stick them in the pin cushion. Then he helped me stuff the pillow, mainly by tossing handfuls of stuffing into the air. By the time we were done, it looked as if it had snowed in our living room!" There are pictures of it, if you'd like to take a look! Let's make a few costumes with Brielle over at Step Into Brielle's Wardrobe. She can make you enter the Pride & Prejudice world by wearing the Jane Bennet dress. But you will also want a handbag or purse to go with it, so take a look at them. Or you could dress up as a pirate and sail the Caribbean with Will Turner in his Pirate Costume she made. You could be Arwen in Rivendell wearing her beautiful green gown. Maybe you'd like to wear a Spanish Gown and dance in the moonlight? Brielle has just the thing for you here, in her costume 1867 Spanish Gown. Have fun dressing up with Brielle! Join Liz at her blog as she shows you what she made this year for her sewing in Sewing and Other Things. She said, "I really love to sew, especially stuffed animals! I have made 2 more than the ones shown in my pictures. I love that you can do whatever you want when you sew, it is unlimited! :) I hope you enjoy looking at them!" She made a turtle, a bear, and a kitty. This section is called "Wrapping Christmas Gifts!" It may be a little early, but you can make a Christmas gift look very pretty, and with a little help from the Littles and Chas of My Cup Runneth Over... She wraps her gifts early in Frugal...But Beautiful Christmas Wrapping. She uses inexpensive items and she has a little help! She makes a cute gift for her son. Pictures and all! While we are still wrapping gifts, let's take a look at this cute little Snowflake Blanket at HeatBeat that Charity is making for her brother's Christmas present. It's very cute! Come and see it! This part I will call "Randomness". I just have a bunch of different posts! Now we'll join Jocelyn of Amusings Reflections while she collects all her supplies for making Goat Milk Soap. Quote from her post about being on the lookout for: "Since I have been on the lookout for soap-making supplies, I have been trying to find pure olive oil." She finally got a recipe from Kerimae, and is going to be making it very soon. She finds that Pure Olive Oil works for your face as well as for soap-making in Pure Olive Oil Bar... Join her as she takes a great leap in trying to make Goat Milk Soap! Amanda over at My Learning Experience has a song she'd like to share. It's called Signature of Divine. She said about this song, "I picked this song because I think the words are just so awesome. I recently heard this and totally fell in love with it. It is so true that we have tried so hard to see the image of God, when it is right in front of us. It's His people that are His image." When you read the song, you will agree with her! Eric of The Voice Of Experience has a podcast he made that he would like to share with all of us. It's called Eternal Focus. The name is so right. You have to listen to it! He says: "I’ve got a surprise for you. The reason that I’ve missed blogging for the past two days is because I was working on a pod cast! I’ve decided to call it “The Eternal Focus.” This is the first Voice of Experience pod cast that I’ve done. Enjoy!" I enjoyed it very much, and you will too! If we hop over to Candy's blog CandyFoote, and see what she says about "So did all of those good books go?" At the beginning of the post, she talk about how she "loves junk stores. They remind me of our local library. No, really!" Read the rest of her post to see how the plays out. Why don'y we take a look at Rachelle's garden at Do Not Grow Weary. They still have a lot to do, and it's still very hot in Arizona! She says about the weather: " First we had to wait for the weather to begin to cool … our highs are still in the 90s/upper 80s but that is much better than the 100s!" Take a look at her garden, she posted pictures! We're going to head over to A Little Quiet Woman, and see why Alex has Chickens on the Brain. She says, "Whew, I really HAVE had chicken's on the brain lately! We just got chickens on Tuesday... 10 of them! So far we've just had 2 eggs, but I always give them a positive pep talk when I go and check on them! ;)." They have 9 Plymouth Rock (white - 1 yr), and a Black Sex Link (4-5 months). She has pictures of her new chickens in the post. Cat of Self-Sufficiency for the Refined Backwoods Hick has a little thing to share about Biodiesel in Homebrew Revolution. "Does home-made biodiesel actually work to fuel your vehicle? A quick overview of concerns, and some resources for getting started making your own biofuel." Read her post, and find out if it does! Thank you for joining me for the 24th Homesteading Carnival! It was a pleasure to share this with you! Rachel PS. I added the last entries I saw I had! Once again, ENJOY!!!
