"3 Is A Magic Number..."

Posted in Saturday Psalm and Praise

“3 Is A Magic Number…”

We have a movie, a cartoon actually, called School-House Rock. It’s an old cartoon, and has lots of educational clips like mathematics, grammar, historical and just plain fun ones. There is one that is about the number 3. It tells how to count by threes and “how it takes three legs to make a tripod or make a table stand.”

Well, Isaac, who is the Einstein of the family, said “Three is a magic number, because Jesus rose in three days after dying on the cross.” Now, is that profound or what?! Coming from a five-year-old, it was amazing he would say something like that. But, yes, it is true.

the-number-three

Jesus, before His death, prophesied that He would rise again on the third day. Yes, it is true - Christ DID rise again on the third day by the power of God, for He was God in the flesh. After His death, angels appeared the women who went to the tomb to anoint Him. But they found something quite alarming - Jesus’ body was gone!

Matthew 28:5-7
5And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
6He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
7And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.

Christ Jesus died so that we might obtain everlasting life through His death, as John 3:16 - “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” He gave His life as the ransom for many so that we could live forever. This was the promised deliverance from sin.

As one of my favourite things to quote from the book Pilgrim’s Progress, “He has given me rest through His sorrow, and life by His death.

Saturday Psalm & Praise

By Christ Jesus sacrificing His life on the cross, He gave me the gift of everlasting life. He gives this gift to all who want to receive it. All you must do is accept His salvation that He offers to be cleansed of your sins to live a better life glorifying Him and not ourselves. Accept Him into your heart and let Him become the Lord of your life. You will find peace, rest, and an everlasting joy that cannot be found anywhere else. I pray that all who read this post will be encouraged in the Faith.

Love,
    Rachel

Pizza Dough Or Bread Stick Recipe

Posted in My Recipe Box!

This is a recipe I got off of the Art of Bread Making DVD we received from the West ladies of Homestead Blessings. These bread sticks are so soft and fluffy, they are a bread-stick lovers dream! These are great for dipping in spaghetti sauce, garlic and olive oil sauce or just eating plainly. Anyways, the ones I made turned out GREAT!

Soft Bread Sticks
2 1/2 cups of flour
1 tbsp yeast
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp honey
1 cup warm water
4 tbsp olive oil

Mix the dry ingredients first, then add rest of ingredients. Mix them at a nice pace, then knead with hands til soft. Let rest for 10min, knead again for about 5min. Preheat oven to 400*.
Flour your hands lightly, then take a small ball of dough and roll it between your hands til you get a "stick" of dough. Keep doing that with all your dough. Let rest for about 5min.
Lay the made bread sticks on your stoneware. Melt some butter, olive oil, and fresh garlic in pan. Don't boil, just melt. Then brush on top of breadsticks. Salt them and bake them for 15min.

You will end up with some lovely breadsticks when you are finished with this recipe... makes me wanna go make some right now! Haha. I also made three SO GOOD pizzas with the dough the other night for dinner. They were lovely. Hope you all enjoy them.
Love,
  Rachel

An Update 'Bout The Homestead...

Posted in My Daily Life

Well, things have been mostly the same here. Today the weather took a wonderful turn and it's about 60 outside right now. In the Land of the Indians, you can't be sure what the weather will be like until it's here! It's nut up here.

Milking Update -

I am milking Keci at night now. We aren't feeding Wilbur at night; only in the morning. She gives about 21/2 to 3 cups of milk at a milking, compared the 11/2 cups that my other milker, Bella, gives. Amena is giving about 2/3 to 1 cup of milk, but her doeling, Flopsy, is still with her and I think she is still letting her nurse.

Chicken Update -

The chickens still aren't laying more that one to two eggs a week. So we are having to buy organic eggs every week to have eggs. I don't like that at all. I loved going down with a basket and collecting eggs, farm fresh, not store bought.

Momma said we may need to be getting some new chickies soon to start a new flock and butcher these ones. There are some of the hens that are as big as the roosters, ok, alost as big. But they are big. I would love to get some ducks when we get new chickies. We'll have to see tho.

Wilbur Update -
The office I'm afraid, is becoming the animal-hospital room. I have my bunny in there, and now Wilbur, and the cat goes in there whenever she wants. Poor Jocelyn has to sit at her computer in there. Sometimes it smels bad in there because of Wilbur, and then his box needs to be changed. Hopefully, that will soon change...

Garden Update -
Well, I can't tell you about plants growing because there is no plants growing. haha. But here is a list of the vegetables I would love to plant and tend next year when we do our garden -

Bush beans
Broccoli
Brussel sprouts
Two or three different kinds of Cabbage
Lots of lettuces
Celery
Chards
Corn - lots of different kinds
Cucumbers
One or two Eggplant
Leeks
Lots of Onions
Lots of different kinds of peppers
Cauliflower
Carrots

Fruits I would LOVE to grow -

Watermelons
Cantelope
Pumpkins
Blueberries
Raspberries
Blackberries
Strawberries
I will eventually be adding to the list. What are you planning, or wanting to put in your own garden? Let me know by leaving a comment!
Love,
  Rachel

Homemade Carmel

Posted in My Recipe Box!

First off, before I get to the recipe, I just want to apologize to everyone for not blogging these past couple of days. We didn't have any internet and so I couldn't. Finally last night they got it to working.

Milking update - Bella has not been as good as she was on day one. She is kicking now. But she didn't kick this morning as much as she did last night. Amena is getting better at standing still. She's not falling down every time I milk her. Keci, good ol' Keci will just climb on the stand and eat her food. I have been touching her udder while she is on there and she doesn't kick at all! Maybe I'll have a prize milker here. Ok, on to the recipe!

Homemade Carmel
2 cups 1/2 and 1/2 (or 1 cup whole milk and 1 cup cream)
2 cups whipping cream
1 cup butter
4 cups white sugar
1 1/2 cup corn syrup
4 tsp vanilla

Butter a large pot.  Stir together butter, brown sugar, 1 cup of the half and half, and 1 cup of the whipping cream.  Bring the mixture to a boil.  Add in the remaining ingredients and cook and stir until the temp reaches 240.  Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.  Pour into the greased 9x13.  Cool and cut into small squares.

Love,
  Rachel

Milking Update

Posted in My Milking Adventures

Well, Amena is getting better at standing up on the stand while I milk her. This morning she was very good, and only laid down twice. I've been putting my knee under her front leg so she can't lay down. I think she is getting the idea that if she doesn't lay down, she gets to eat her food more. And, as a bonus when she is very good, I give her a little beet pulp.

For some reason, Bella keeps laying down. I had to put the bucket back under her so she couldn't lay down. But I have to give them both credit. They are a lot better at milking than their momma was. (They are sisters.) Chloe is a BIG goat, and WILL kick if she doesn't want to be milking. She is a pain in the back-end to milk.

I have been feeding Keci on the milk stand, too. I want her to be used to being on it. I touch her underbelly, and her udder when she gets on so it's not a big surprise when I milk her. She is fine with me touching her udder. She has two little sores on it because Wilbur has bitten her when he nursed. I've been putting some olive oil on her to help heal it. Hopefully, it will heal soon.

They all now know that getting on the stand means food and get on without a problem. Keci will get on it after she has gotten down to eat more. I guess I accomplished something so far. :) Oh and if anyone has any experience in making goat milk soap without lye and with castile oil? I'm trying to find a way not to use lye and use a substitute. Anyone?

On the weather, it's been blowing FREEZING cold wind all day. Since we had an ice storm a couple of nights ago, it's very icy outside. The snow isn't snow anymore; it's simply ice. The poor goats and chickens... they have to stay down there in the barn. Poor Pem too. He's our barn dog, so he has to stay down there too. Hopefully the wind will die down soon.

Love,
  Rachel
