Day two of milking...

Posted in My Milking Adventures

This morning was much more of a success than yesterday morning. I did get to milk the does last night, but since it was their first milking, they wouldn't stand still, therefore resulting in me not being able to milk them into a bowl. But this morning was just almost wonderful!

Belladonna, my doe, was such a good girl. This being her first time of being milked, did VERY well. She stood still most of the time, only when I let go of her udder and then held it again did she stamp her feet. She is a very good girl. I think I got about a cup and a half from her, but I didn't measure it. I will do that tonight when I milk her again.

Now her sister, Amena, on the other hand was not half as good as she was. She kept laying down on the milkstand. When I put a bucket under her to help her to stay standing up, she simply kicked until the bucket was no longer under her and laid down. After of her milking time, stand on her own and ate the rest of her food.

Then I put Keci on the stand to eat. I am not milking her yet because she is still nursing Wilbur, who is still in the house. I am having her eat her food on the stand so that when I start milking her, she'll know that if she wants to eat, she'll have to climb on the stand to get it.

I found last night that since getting up at 7:45am, I was a little too tired to talk to myself as I do at night when I go to bed. So, I think this is the beginning of a good start for me to get up early like I have wanted to. The problem with me is that I don't want to be up by myself with the little kids while Amanda and Jocelyn sleep in. So, hopefully, I'll be able to have them up and going at a decent time!

Stop by tomorrow, as I will be posting about my milking adventures! Going to go make some noodles with dressing for lunch now. :)
Love,
  Rachel
PS. I'll get some photos of them on the stand to add to my post when I can! :)
