What a wonderful, good-old-fashioned tale! In this book written especially for boys, but also enjoyed by my 14-year-old daughter, you enjoy adventure, moral dilemma, and a little heartache.
Four boys go on a journey to Nova Scotia and in the course of the story learn about respect for one's elders and gentlemanliness as well as rugged and adventurous spirits. I thought it a very good story for the young men in my life, and I think you will agree.
The ending was a bit sad, but overall we thought it was entertaining as well as thought provoking and a good example. Charlotte Mason moms will love this story! It is definitely not "twaddle." I believe parts of this would make for great copywork. Enjoy this story with the whole family as a read-aloud and it will keep the interest of all as well as provide opportunities to discuss family values.
I recommend this book for independent readers as well as to moms who enjoy reading aloud to their children.
