How I Survived My Doctors' Care and What I Learned Along the Way is a detailed account of Kathy Warren's journey through illness with little help from the professional medical field.
Kathy has detailed her journey through an unknown and undiagnosed illness. She includes not just how the illness affected her physically but also how it affected her lifestyle and family. Throughout the book, Kathy glorifies God, even when doctors give her incorrect treatment and her condition worsens. She offers detailed information about the medications she was prescribed and their effect on her body. By telling her story Kathy empowers others who have not been able to find an answer to their issues by standard medical means to keep their focus on the Lord and to search for natural-care practitioners as an optional approach. A very helpful endnote section details the sources of the facts that she presents in her book, giving you the means by which to do your own research.
While I enjoyed the overall theme of the book, I found it too detailed about mundane information. She strays from the main focus to include irrelevant information. The book almost reads like a dry diary. I found myself skimming through sections and chapters to alleviate reading unneeded information. There are some errors, but nothing that makes the reading taxing. In addition, Kathy uses studies to back up her thoughts, yet she doesn't include a wide range of studies, thus leaving me wondering if she is presenting a one-sided argument.
In conclusion, this is a quick and easy read. The information presented, while an astonishing story, is not something I would purchase. I would not keep it on my shelf for future reference. The purchase price of the product, $14.95, is high, and may leave a customer disappointed after finishing the book. Those who purchase other books in this genre might be deterred from the book based on cost alone, and thus miss a remarkable story of God's work to bring Karen back to health. This book has a very limited market.
