This beautiful book, is no ordinary cookbook! This is THE complete handbook for baking breads and more! Denise shares so much information on baking with, and using, whole grains! She has a chapter, "Beginning Basics" (I love to bake bread from scratch and have for years), and I found it VERY informative--all sorts of tips, a Q & A section (I thought this was great, real questions to problems real people have when baking--and tips on easy solutions!), and even nutritional content of different grains!
There are TONS of different recipes--even a whole chapter specifically geared for baking with your children! This is going to be a treasured book in our home--my girls love to bake, especially bread...well, and of course cookies! It contains wonderful, delicious, recipes--breads, muffins, sweet breads, European breads, biscuits, buns, rolls, pastry, pies, pizza, pasta, dips, sauces, snacks, cookies, cakes, soups--and MORE! We have tried Denise's Honey Whole Wheat Bread-we've made this QUITE a few times already this is wonderful! We also tried her Peanut Butter Bars; Cinnamon Apple Bread (Mmmmmmmmmmmm) and the girls have loved making the animal shaped breads too!
The beautiful cover of this book has a caption at the bottom "A Collection of Homespun Recipes Featuring a Variety of Whole Grains" this book has a very homey, comfortable feeling to it--Denise's writing comes across much as if she's a friend, sharing her love of baking! I have truly enjoyed reviewing this book, and will be using it for years to come!
