We love Unit Studies in our homeschool! What's not to love? Curriculum and teaching covered under one base topic that covers all subjects (we add a solid Math program in as well)! Prepare & Pray and Blessed Assurance are not just any Unit Study though! Based on the literary classic "Swiss Family Robinson" in Prepare and Pray and "Sign of the Beaver" and "Robinson Crusoe" in Blessed Assurance (these titles are family favorites!), these Units are full of fun and adventure, as well as academics and they include projects that are family friendly and useful! I know many unit studies that contain "projects", but are full of "fluff" things that are made and never used or are useless-not so, here! Prepare & Pray & Blessed Assurance contain projects that are truly teaching useful skills, important skills that are really used, in real life!
These Scripturally based unit studies are designed to teach real life skills, preparedness, family togetherness & teamwork with confident, loving character building!
Take a look at just some of the fun projects included in these unit studies:
- Making your own "Stuff Sack" (we LOVED this and my children use theirs daily!)
- Making your own Moccasins
- Knot Tying
- Making Deer Repellents
- Making your own Stone Tools
- Weaving Mats
- Making your own Simple Crutches
- Tons of Cooking Projects
This list is HUGE, seriously. What other teaching tool do you know that includes learning about First Aid, Animals, Herbs, Preparedness, Building a Shelter, Building a Campfire, Gardening, Making Challah, Identifying Herbs & Wild Edibles, Making a Survival Pack, Making Herbal Remedies, Homemade Dog Biscuits, Animal Tracking, Making Cheese and another favorite, making "Salt & Light Packs" for witnessing-and I haven't even scratched the surface of all the projects (simple and practical!) that are packed into these 2 volumes! This curriculum offers so much teaching and wisdom, for the whole family-and it is all "real life" learning & the focus is on our Father & our character quality-which I absolutely love! Here is a quote from the Prepare & Pray website:
"A vital part of any well rounded education will include emergency preparedness. This extensive, yet practical hands-on course will equip the participants to be ready to face whatever the future brings, while always acknowledging the True Source of our well being: God Himself!
A 36 week literary unit study designed for the whole family, toddler through resident Grandma and teaches a confident, positive approach to impending difficulties using simple resources and family teamwork. Fear is not the object of this study, but it is our desire to stimulate a watchful, prudent attitude which will equip children and parents to develop untapped abilities, press through physical limitations, and respond reasonably and scripturally to threatening situations and the challenges of end-times living.
Learn outdoorsmanship, survival skills, and sustainable living skills from a practical academic course for all ages 3-103!
Based on the Swiss Family Robinson , a classic novel for children written by Johann (David) Wyss, a radical believer who used every available opportunity in the story to emphasize character training and true godliness. So we cover a variety of scenarios, including natural disasters, economic downturns, terrorism, plague, etc. It is a miracle, but we have managed to develop a curriculum preparing for these events that children and families consider fun! Your child's life may depend on skills he learns while having fun."
We find this curriculum highly valuable in our homeschool, not just because it's "fun" and the whole family can truly participate easily, but because it teaches truth, is based on Scripture and imparts wisdom & real life skills that will last a lifetime! Our highest recommendation!
