Moving

We will be moving on our land in August. We will live in a small building or a camper if we can find one to live in while me and Dear Husband build our house ourselves. We will build an outer shell and go from there.

Once we get on the land me and the children will also get things together to get us some chickens, goats and Jersey cow. Praying things work to the best for our family.

I also want to learn of different dry good places and things to get a hold of. Gloria

you sound like you are truly homesteading in the old-fashioned, 19th century sort of way. Good luck to you. On canning, I have not done a whole lot, but what I have done is reduce the sugar recipes call for.

I did two batches of raspberry jam one year, one normal, the other using \"no-sugar pectin\" which says you can add up to half the sugar of the other, so I did, not wanting to make too great a change at once. Anyway, I had my husband taste both, and he loved the low-sugar one! And last year we canned peaches in water. not sugar water or light syrup, but plain old water. It was a shock to get used to - they seemed bitter at first, and now we are all addicted. My SIL and I did 66 bottles: I have 3 left and she has 10. And peach season is still 4 months away - and I will be 9 months prego and not wanting to can this year. And yet I will, or we will be forced to choose between no peaches for the next year or store-bought sugary peaches. anyway, check out the sugar-less way to can.

oh, and Glenda pointed out link with a way to bottle fruits in a solar oven! hm... for some reason I cannot paste the link here - check out her solar oven post - it is there somewhere.
