Puzzles and Pincurls and Tea....OH MY!

10:21 AM, Wednesday, February 28, 2007 .. Posted in Family Moments .. 9 comments .. Link

These are among just a few of the things that make memories during a visit from Grandma and Grandpa! What a wonderful visit we have just had with Sam's parents who were here staying with us for just over a week. They have been to visit us once each year since we've moved to Montana and this was their second stay here in our little cabin. We had hoped we would be able to offer them flushing amenities this time around but alas we made due once again with one porta in the loft and one porta downstairs.

We so enjoyed all the time to just talk and catch up. Of course the kids all enjoyed showing grandma and grandpa all their games they like to play, shooting guns with grandpa, and having grandma fix up their hair special for school and church. Then there are the cups of tea. And tea cookies! Did I mention TEA?!!! My goodness. No wonder we were emptying potties every single day! There is tea first thing in the morning with breakfast. Then there is mid morning tea and of course tea again with lunch. Let's not forget about mid afternoon tea and then pre dinner tea. Tea with dinner and then again later in the evening. That's at least 7 times a day the kettle was a singin'. At 2 to 3 cups each time I guess that figures out to between 14 and 21 cups of tea PER DAY (Per Person!). Ah, the simple joys of life.

When we were not making tea, drinking tea, and cleaning up after tea, we managed to play some fun games (whoops, I guess tea was involved during those as well!), put together a 550 piece jigsaw puzzle in 4 1/2 hours, read stories out loud, fix up pincurls or braids, chop wood, sing songs, play a game of charades (I was quite proud to get someone to guess "Custer's Last Stand" in about 4 seconds and enjoyed telling Caleb to act out "Nutcracker Ballet"!) and make plans for this summers Family Reunion on the east coast. We will get to all fly out for a 3 day reunion with many of Sam's brothers/sisters/spouses/ and children. There are some of the younger neices and nephews we haven't yet met and many have not met our own children so we are looking forward to getting everyone together to get aquainted!

In other news, we were in the city on Saturday to get Sam's parents to the airport and while there spent some time shopping. We were so excited to go to Wheat Montana and pick up a 50lb bag of Prairie Gold Wheat Berries for $12.95. Tax money had arrived and I wanted to get that grain before I talked myself out of spending the money on a grain mill! We've been planning to get one for a while now but I always get squirrely when making that big of a purchase. The plan worked though because Monday afternoon I worked up the gumption and clicked the buy button on my new Nutrimill. I have to put in a mention here that it was so fun to be able to purchase it from my friend Theresa right here at homesteadblogger. Something wasn't working quite right with the online system so I actually got to talk to her on the phone. Feeling like we knew each other a little made making that big purchase not quite so scary. Thank you Theresa for the personal service and conversation. I've just had an e-mail from Federal Express that my mill is set to arrive here March 1st. That's TOMORROW! Fresh bread for dinner!

Thanks friends for popping in for a visit today. I've missed you all this past couple of weeks and am beginning to read and get caught up with you all. Have a great day wherever you are!

Deciding the "shoulds" could wait.

1:02 PM, Tuesday, January 9, 2007 .. Posted in Family Moments .. 7 comments .. Link

Today I have been enjoying the pleasure of your company. I have read blogs I've never been to before (there are some neat new people here!) and I have visited some dear friends. Let me just say.......I have missed you! Although I've been popping in now and then over the past couple of weeks, I haven't read as much as I'd like, nor have I been able to write. Although I'm sure I have missed some wonderful posts I have been enjoying some extended family time.

It's always hard to know how to balance the physical needs of our project (nope, no potty yet!) with the less visible but equally important needs of rest and fun as a family (believe it or not, the kids DO NOT necessarily always agree that fetching firewood, working with the sawmill, peeling poles, sifting tiny rocks out of the garden, or doing yard work is as fun as we make it out to be.) One thing we've done to get ourselves (the grown ups!) to change the pace a bit for our family is to set the days from Christmas through New Years as a time for lots and lots of games, puzzles, drawing (well, the others enjoy drawing....I'm more of a colorer of pictures already there myself!), family movies, reading out loud together, and other various "together" activities that are not also "chores". Even though it's our desire to do these things all year round it seems as though it's the slower, colder days of winter, when we can finally make it happen. There are still a million and one things we "should" be doing but "should" is finally made to wait.

We have REALLY enjoyed our holiday this year and due to illness, the time has been extended longer than the expected date of January 3rd when school started up again. Sam took a couple of sick days right around that time and then I think everyone was at their perspective places for ONE DAY before our youngest came down with a bad sore throat/fever. She finally returned to school today and I have had time to myself to spend here catching up with all of you just a bit. As much as our special holiday family times are looked forward to and enjoyed I am ready to get back into some routines!

I need to get going for now, but my intention is to begin blogging regularly again. I don't want to miss any more good information or stories that you all might be writing about and I still have a story or two (or ten?) to share as well.

See you soon!

"Delicate" Backhoe Ruptures Zit!

8:54 AM, Monday, October 2, 2006 .. Posted in Family Moments .. 4 comments .. Link

" That thing is so delicate I can pick a zit off a face with it."

These were the words regarding the backhoe in response to my concern about Sam digging a 3 foot wide ditch between our outdoor water spigot and the wooden platform that holds our washer.

Approximately 5 minutes later........

Need I say more?

Hunters in the Making and Septic Saga

11:04 AM, Tuesday, September 26, 2006 .. Posted in Family Moments .. 3 comments .. Link

Does anyone remember me telling the story of the great squirrel hunt that took place this summer? Remember that the thing which caused me to allow it was that I knew my son was on his way to being 12 and being of the legal age to hunt big game here in Montana? Well, he's still got about 2 months to go before turning 12 but he has just passed his hunters safety course with flying colors! I'd say a score of 78 out of 80 is pretty good wouldn't you? And also, rumor has it that on the simulated trap shoot they held he shot like a pro getting 48 out of 50. The instructor mentioned that he shoots trap on Sundays and could use a partner.......now if he will only teach his parents everything he knows we will surely be in business!!

This week marks the 3rd anninversary of our move from Iowa to Montana. The time has seemed to go so fast. I wonder how things will be different for us in another 3 years?

Oh that made me start to think of the ages my kids will be then and I realized that in 3 years our youngest daughter will be 12 and probably out shooting us all. (That's not to say she will be shooting us, but rather that she will be shooting BETTER than all of us )! This summer Sam took her rabbit hunting on the spur of the moment and pretty soon they were back, with her full of grins holding a rabbit by the ears in one hand and the gun in the other hand. I must mention the thing I got a kick out of was seeing her standing there like that in her cute little jean skirt just looking so girly and so PROUD of that rabbit!

The digging of our septic has proved to be a real lesson in perseverence. Not only have we been battling digging through rock and the fire restrictions (we were very limited on the hours the backhoe could be used for digging), but we also have set certain days for digging and then had yet something else go wrong with the backhoe. We have replaced a battery, a starter, and now some hydrolic hoses. It is a borrowed piece of equipment so we are still saving money even with these fixes but it has really been slowing progress down and WE WANT A POTTY!!!!!!!!!

A Deep thought from a 9 year old.

3:31 PM, Monday, September 18, 2006 .. Posted in Family Moments .. 2 comments .. Link

My 9 year old daughter is home from school sick today (well, sick in the morning and seemingly fine now) and was sitting behind me reading her book while I was reading blogs.  All of a sudden out of the blue she said:

"Hey, this is a doggy book.  I wonder if it would hurt it if I doggy eared it."

Made me giggle and reminded me of last weeks question here about bookmarks so I thought I would share.

A Girl's Gotta Dream!

10:46 AM, Wednesday, September 6, 2006 .. Posted in Family Moments .. 9 comments .. Link

Today's question on the front porch:

What is your favorite pet or farm animal ~ either now or in the past?

This one is too hard.  All pets I have had have been special to me for one reason or another and as my oldest daughter would say, it wouldn't be "FAIR" to pick just one!

So I got to thinking about an animal we would like to have "someday".  Our youngest daughter really started it all by being a horse lover from day one.  While I imagine most little girls that like horses dream about getting something small like maybe a shetland pony......our girl dreams BIG.  Somewhere along the line of horse study she determined that it was a draft horse that she wants.  They are beautiful horses, and we also began to imagine how helpful it would be to have a properly trained draft horse to help skid logs out of the woods or even out of the harder to access parts of our property.

We have a lot of learning to do first, not to mention a house to build and fences to put up, but we like to help her keep the dream alive.

This past weekend was our county fair and we found someone there who was in the parade with their Belgian pulling a buggy.  Before the parade they let Mara sit in the buggy and then towards the end of the parade invited her to ride on the horses back.  She was in horse heaven so I'm posting a few pictures of her big moment.

Can you see that grin?

Isn't that one beautiful horse?

She should have one don't you think?

Someday.....

Scenes from a mountain drive

9:52 AM, Tuesday, September 5, 2006 .. Posted in Family Moments .. 3 comments .. Link

Since we live in this very small rural town there are not a lot of fancy places to go to celebrate festive occassions unless we drive about an hour and a half.  Since we were already planning to do that on Saturday for school clothes shopping we didn't want to go Friday night.  So instead, when Sam got home from work we fed the kids and hopped into Big Pink (the truck you see at the top of my page) and headed up our mountain for nothing more than a joy ride.  No plans for log gathering or anything.......

Wasn't it a beautiful night?  The first two pictures were taken on our way up.  We explored one of the lesser traveled (translate....BUMPIER) roads and discovered the stand of tall thin trees in the 3rd picture.  Then on our way down I took the last two pictures as the sun was setting.  How much "fancier" of a setting did we need?!!!

And yes.......we just couldn't help ourselves........we did pick up a few logs along the way

A birthday, an anniversary, and how we met

9:56 AM, Thursday, August 31, 2006 .. Posted in Family Moments .. 10 comments .. Link

38 years ago today my knight in shining armor was born.  At the time I didn't realize the importance of the day.  I was 3 1/2.  But that's okay I suppose because he got lots of attention. He was the 5th child born into his family so he had his parents and four siblings to dote on him for me. He grew up in his world on the east side of the country while I started my life story in the midwest.

You could say that school really wasn't his "cup of tea" so he spent a lot of time living for his summer vacations, drawing/painting pictures, playing cello, piano, and guitar, studying the word of God, and dreaming about living off in the wilderness somewhere among the mountains. While he was busy with all those things I was going to college and studying early childhood education. One summer I took a job as a nanny in Colorado. I flew on a plane by myself for the first time, lived with people I didn't know, and grew to love the 3 girls I took care of. While I was there a very kind and distinguished pastor came to stay for a few days with the family. He had a wonderful soothing voice which I will always remember. It was the kind of voice that just made you want to sit and listen regardless of what it was he was saying. It actually brings tears to my eyes to remember it now.

After I graduated from college and was now out in the "real" world, I was working a full time job and a part time job to cover my living expenses. Life felt something like a rickety merry-go-round that I wasn't sure was ever going to stop spinning. When the woman I had worked for that summer during college called to tell me that she had moved to Hawaii and wanted to fly me out to live with her again to care for the girls and tutor the youngest who had some learning disabilities, I wasn't too sure about going that far away from my family-but I sure knew it was an opportunity I didn't want to miss. It was November. I was in Iowa. Stop the merry-go-round and let me off.......I'm going to Hawaii!

I celebrated the holidays with my family in Iowa and then when the new year rang I was off. Who knew the ocean was that BLUE?!! Wow. The home I was staying in had a banana tree in the back yard, macadamia nut trees across the street, and papayas right down the road. What a place.

One day I was at the house when a young boy came to the door to visit the family and I was introduced. After he left, the housekeeper (who was a wonderful dear friend to me while I was there) looked straight at me with a smile and said, "Now THERE's someone for YOU!" I thought maybe she had inhaled too many fumes because the boy obviously looked to be no more than 17 years old and I was 24 at the time.

Well, of course the "boy" was indeed my future knight in shining armor and he was NOT 17. He was in Hawaii taking some classes at University of the Nations (a YWAM base). He knew the family I worked for through his grandfather. Two months later on Thanksgiving day, he was invited to the house to share our meal. While we were cleaning up afterwards he asked me lots of questions and actually was interested in my answers. I was hooked.

It was a fairytale courtship. We fell in love sitting on the sea wall listening to the waves crashing. He proposed to me while kneeling in the pacific ocean at sunset. On August 31st of the next year Sam turned 22. He had his birthday cake at our rehearsal dinner and we were married the next night.

There was a poem that was said by the minister at our wedding that has been the guiding light of our choices over the years........

What is it that Satan fears the most?
Besides the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.....
It's not the fiery preacher
Nor the man who far has trod
But a close and loving family
United by God.

I'm sure that even though you can read the poem, you can't see the smiling eyes or hear the Norwegian lilt of the man who married us that night. It was that voice from a few summers before when I was a lonely college girl in Colorado. It seems that the kind, distinguished man with the soothing voice was now to become family......as he is the grandfather of my knight in shining armor. Grandpa Morken was a mighty man of God who has gone on to see his Jesus but will live on forever in our memories and the stories we tell to our children.

Today we will celebrate the birth of my knight and tomorrow we will celebrate 16 years of happiness together. My desire is that each person that reads these words will know the kind of love that I have known these past 16 years.

A Bakers Dozen

10:07 AM, Thursday, August 24, 2006 .. Posted in Family Moments .. 6 comments .. Link

I can't imagine there's anyone that doesn't know what a bakers dozen is but just in case.......it refers to someone who gives above and beyond just what they said they would, and adds a little something extra.

Two weeks ago when I found out I was featured blogger Nancy asked for my address so she could have that weeks sponsor, Herrick Kimball send out the book he had offered.  I was to be receiving the book he wrote titled "Making Great Garlic Powder."  I have to admit I was wondering why anyone would ever take the time to make garlic powder themselves.  But I had done some reading on Herrick's blog before and have thought I'd like to read the new book he has written "The Deliberate Agrarian".  So, I began looking forward to seeing what he had to say about garlic powder.

I don't go into town very often even though we are only 10 miles out and we do receive our mail at the post office.  So it now became a daily thing for me to nearly leap on Sam when he came in the door with the hope that he had remembered to check the mail.  Something other than credit card offers was coming for me!!!  Most of the time he forgot.  I would remind him again that I was expecting my GARLIC book.  Then the next day he would remember to check but would bring me home yet another credit card offer.  Ever notice how every day seems like a year when you are waiting for something?  Now it really was not a long time at all before the package arrived.

Two days ago Sam came through the door with a nice size package addressed to me and I was so confused.  It was a book I was to receive.  Certainly it wasn't THAT big!  So with my family all gathered around.....and if you have kids you know that getting ANY box in the mail is an event regardless of who it is for...I opened up the box and found......The expected "Garlic Powder" book (autographed :)), a nice note from Herrick, and what else?

Hiding among the peanuts were 4 very large carefully wrapped heads of Herrick's own homegrown garlic for me to use to cook with, roast, dry, or plant.  A bakers dozen.

Okay, my dad always said it didn't take much to entertain me and I guess he's right about that.  Anyone can go to the store and buy some garlic but how cool is it to get the garlic fresh from the guy who wrote the garlic book?!!

I have read a little so far and am enjoying finding out about why all the reasons for homegrown instead of store bought but haven't yet read about actually making garlic powder.

I have learned that there are two different types of garlic, a softneck variety is the type usually grown for making into garlic powder because it's better suited for mechanical harvesting and for growing in the climate of California where most of the garlic grown for dehydration (in America) comes from.  Apparantly the softneck garlic does not begin to compare with stiffneck garlic for rich garlic flavor.  Stiffneck garlic requires a little more care while growing and grows better in climates with a frigid winter (I live in Montana!).  They are often referred to as "gourmet" garlic.

Of course, Herrick's garlic is the stiffneck variety and that is what he sent to me that I will have to try to plant and see if I can grow some of my own.  I don't see myself as an up and coming major garlic producer but then again I haven't finished reading the book yet!  There is a lot of good information included so by the end I may just become a purist.  I know this, reading about all the pesticides used on commercial garlic not to mention the levels of lead, sulfites, arsenic, and beach sand in store bought garlic powder does cause one to stop and ponder.

I'm off to stop in over at Herrick's and thank him for the baker's dozen.  If you want to find out about his interesting Whizbang inventions and see photos of how his family butchers chickens you can find him at  www.TheDeliberateAgrarian.com.  The chicken story is on his blog. www.thedeliberateagrarian.blogspot.com/2006/08/processing-chickens-with-my-son.html.

Any great garlic recipes are now welcome !

Screen Day-I will Survive!

9:05 AM, Friday, August 18, 2006 .. Posted in Family Moments .. 3 comments .. Link

Everything is quiet now. I hear only the buzz of the computer, the fridge running, and a small crackle from the woodstove. I savor these peaceful moments yet until approximately 9:00am when the clock will signal the beginning of "SCREEN DAY".

Sometime during last school year I began noticing that it was too hard for my oldest to work on homework while the younger two who didn't have any were free to watch a video, or play on the computer and x-box. Remember, we are in one big open space so I'm sure this was a mixture of not wanting to do the homework as well as the distraction due to the noise. Since this was a daily battle I finally lowered the ax and announced that there would not be any more use of the "screens" during the school week period. Homework or not. Henceforth Friday and Saturday were the only two days screens were allowed.

What a relief this was. There were no more siblings racing down the path to see who could get home FIRST, so they could ask FIRST to use the computer. I got to stop having to figure out who went first on what screen when and how to be "fair" about who went next. Children began playing outside in the afternoons. It allowed for a quieter place for homework.

When summer was approaching I wondered how it was going to work out to stick to screen days. We have made it. Fridays and Saturdays only. The only problem that really came out of this was the misunderstanding that "screen day" meant that absolutely NOTHING else needed to be done and that 100% of the day was dedicated to being buzz heads. No need to get dressed or really even eat anything unless it could be had in front of the screens. Heaven forbid a chore having to be done. We have been working on clearing up that issue with the understanding that all screen day means is that it is at least AVAILABLE as an option. Like I said, we're working on that!

So, since today is Friday, I will sneak in a moment here and there between others to read up on what's happening with all of you. The rest of the time I will be here attending to whatever tasks I do reminding myself that we have made progress. I will remember the fishes that Caleb caught this week and the entire book that Charis read yesterday. I will remember how Mara spent time loving and cuddling the neighbors tiny newborn kittens. I will remember the quiet of Monday through Thursday.

And I will survive. Uh oh, it's 9:00.........

A boy, a creek, and a summer day

9:00 AM, Wednesday, August 16, 2006 .. Posted in Family Moments .. 5 comments .. Link

If you've been reading my blog for a while you may remember a while back when I posted a story about my son called "Can I shoot it mom?!" Yesterday offered me a chance to tell a another great Caleb story.

Here are a couple of pictures of the creek that runs through our property.

Caleb has been claiming to see some fish in the creek that he wanted to try and catch. Since fishing isn't high on our list of priorities right now all the fishing equipment is in storage. This morning Caleb set out to see what he could do about finding his own way to catch a fish. Here is what he tried.

First of all he had to get permission to go to the creek by himself since neither of his sisters were interested and the dog seemed to be afraid to go. We had a neighbor tell us that a mountain lion had been seen nearby a while back so had been only letting the kids venture away from the house if they were together. (You know, so that the others could report back should said lion eat one of them for lunch). Anyway, having played it safe for quite a while I told him that if he promised to keep his ears listening for unfamiliar sounds, run if he heard them, and not stay gone too long, he could go. So off he went.

The first attempt at fishing involved his BB gun. Yes, he was trying to spy the little fishes out and shoot them for dinner. This seemed to prove unsuccessful because he came back to the house, enlisted the help of a sister, and set off again. This time the method was to strap a knife to the end of a stick. I believe the plan was for Caleb to scare the fish into action and then Mara was to jump into the water and spear it. Not too long afterwards they came back unsuccessful yet again and Mara had to clean up the cut she managed to get on her leg. As the cut was minor I decided not to ask any questions! By this time we were getting ready to have lunch and then head into town to go to the library, pick up our mail, and stop at the grocery store. A girl can be out of cream for coffee only so long (I really think we need a cow but I must not get sidetracked from my story).

We enjoyed our trip to town, got a bunch of reading materials, and came back home. Caleb spent quite a while outside reading in the hammock but he just couldn't forget about those fish. Pretty soon he was asking me if he could cut up one of his shirts to make a net to catch them in. Since I didn't appear overly enthusiastic about that he decided he would just take the butterfly net. Off he went again.

Minutes later I hear loud shouting from a distance and as he came nearer I could make out the words "I GOT IT! I GOT IT!" Of course the girls and I all came running to see the prize. I admit it wasn't quite as big as I had imagined it would be but he did get it. So we found a container to put water in and he let it go to swim. I got to hear the victory story of how he put his net in the water and captured it. We tried to identify it from a Montana wildlife booklet we have and think it is a small brook trout but aren't sure. Of course NOW the girls were excited so the three of them headed back to the creek to gather bugs or worms or something for this fish to eat. No way was this little thing going to be dinner but he was fun to watch. I'd say about 7 inches long or so. Anyway, to keep this from getting WAY too long.......they came back with another fish, put it in the container, went back again and got a third fish which was the biggest of all, and had the best time "decorating" the tub they were in with rocks and gems and things. I'm sure the girls were the ones inspired to decorate.

As soon as Sam came home he had to check out the great excitement of the day. On my way back inside I heard Caleb say, "I persevered and I got it!" Wow. What more could a mother ask for than a boy who has had the time of his life and learned a great lesson all at the same time?

A new look........I'm so proud!

6:57 PM, Wednesday, August 2, 2006 .. Posted in Family Moments .. 12 comments .. Link

Rejoice with me for I have taken on "The Template" and have emerged victorious!!!

Anyone who has ever gone through the process of remaking their template (and I know there are LOTS of you!), knows that if you start out knowing absolutely nothing about how to do it, the feeling of exhileration when you finally accomplish the task is nearly overwhelming.

Let me introduce you to my new look:

*The first picture on the left is our lane......the "lane" of Mountain Lane Homesteaders.  This is actually an easement through our property for the lady who lives behind us so both sides of it belong to us.

*The top picture of the truck with long poles sticking out is our Ford F150 that we bought in order to be able to do what we would need to for hauling and building.  At first glance it looks red but it really is more pinkish.  The truck is called "Big Pink" or just "Pink" for short.  The poles are some that we cut and hauled off of Baldy Mountain.  We are currently using them as rafters in our cabin.

*Of course the picture of the cabin in the snow is one we took this past January after all of the main work had been done.  We are so pleased with how it turned out.

*The picture of the tree on the right is a wonderful little ponderosa pine tree on the property.  It's not one of the most spectacular trees we have but I just love it's character.

It has been quite an experience getting this all ready so I'm not planning to change it again anytime soon.  Well.........maybe some graphics or something!  Anyway, I hope you like it........there's just no place like home.

Hello all.  This is just a short post to announce that I have figured out how to put some photos in my photo album.  I have not yet figured out how to place them directly into a blog.  I wanted to introduce you to our family.  My name is Darcy and my husband is Sam.  We have 3 children, a dog, and a cat.  We have big dreams to add more animals but our first priority is to finish the "shed/barn/cabin" we are living in and to get going on our house.  Hope you enjoy having faces to go with the names you'll see here on Mountian Lane Homesteaders!

Can I shoot it mom?!

12:06 AM, Thursday, July 13, 2006 .. Posted in Family Moments .. 3 comments .. Link

Good morning!  I thought I'd slip in a "my how far we've come" before continuing on with the story of how we got here...........

I am mother to 2 daughters and one son.  It is my son Caleb who is the star of this post.  Since arriving in Montana he has been eating, breathing, and sleeping the idea of hunting.  He will be 12 on his next birthday which is when he will be legally of the age to hunt.  So far he has aquired a BB gun, a 22 rifle, several knives of all sizes, and most recently a new shot gun (something fancy to those who know guns I guess!).  We have purchased only the BB gun and maybe one nice pocket knife.  Everything else has been given to him by friends and relatives.

Yesterday morning before I even knew he was awake, Caleb came shooting down the ladder from the loft with a mission.  He saw a squirrel from his window and was ready to shoot it.  "Can I shoot it mom? Can I?"  After quizzing him on just WHAT he was going to shoot (trying to clarify that it was NOT the cute little chirping thing that had been playing on our rafters the day before) and being assured that is was a big black UGLY squirrel, I asked if he was going to shoot it with his BB gun.  "No. Mom. I've got to use the 22!"  I was terribly unsure of the whole thing but he IS going to be 12 in just a few months and he DOES need to practice his shot sooooooooooo I won the day by giving permission.  Shot one was a miss, shot 2 wasn't.  After clenching my teeth and looking at it in the bag, I am pretty certain that the chirping days of our rafter runner are over.

I can remember when Caleb was just a little guy in Iowa and how I would not buy him any kind of toy that even resembled a gun.  Not even a water gun.  MY HOW FAR WE'VE COME!

About Me

My husband and I along with our 3 children, moved from Iowa to Montana 3 years ago fulfilling a long time dream of living in the mountains. Last summer we purchased and moved onto our bare land and are currently living in our home made cabin which has evolved from a shed to a barn to our cabin and future guest house. The foundation for what we now call "The big house" is dug and waiting for our next burst of energy! Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
