Hunters in the Making and Septic Saga

11:04 AM, Tuesday, September 26, 2006 .. Posted in Family Moments .. 3 comments .. Link

Does anyone remember me telling the story of the great squirrel hunt that took place this summer? Remember that the thing which caused me to allow it was that I knew my son was on his way to being 12 and being of the legal age to hunt big game here in Montana? Well, he's still got about 2 months to go before turning 12 but he has just passed his hunters safety course with flying colors! I'd say a score of 78 out of 80 is pretty good wouldn't you? And also, rumor has it that on the simulated trap shoot they held he shot like a pro getting 48 out of 50. The instructor mentioned that he shoots trap on Sundays and could use a partner.......now if he will only teach his parents everything he knows we will surely be in business!!

This week marks the 3rd anninversary of our move from Iowa to Montana. The time has seemed to go so fast. I wonder how things will be different for us in another 3 years?

Oh that made me start to think of the ages my kids will be then and I realized that in 3 years our youngest daughter will be 12 and probably out shooting us all. (That's not to say she will be shooting us, but rather that she will be shooting BETTER than all of us )! This summer Sam took her rabbit hunting on the spur of the moment and pretty soon they were back, with her full of grins holding a rabbit by the ears in one hand and the gun in the other hand. I must mention the thing I got a kick out of was seeing her standing there like that in her cute little jean skirt just looking so girly and so PROUD of that rabbit!

The digging of our septic has proved to be a real lesson in perseverence. Not only have we been battling digging through rock and the fire restrictions (we were very limited on the hours the backhoe could be used for digging), but we also have set certain days for digging and then had yet something else go wrong with the backhoe. We have replaced a battery, a starter, and now some hydrolic hoses. It is a borrowed piece of equipment so we are still saving money even with these fixes but it has really been slowing progress down and WE WANT A POTTY!!!!!!!!!

That's just fascinating to me that yall are putting in the ceptic system and have managed without one up until this time. When will we see pictures of the house? I bet it's beautiful.

I love the jean skirt and rabbit part. Girls are the best!!!! So do you have a porta potty that you are using? I can't even begin to imagine how that would be in the winter....

You are an angel...

About Me

My husband and I along with our 3 children, moved from Iowa to Montana 3 years ago fulfilling a long time dream of living in the mountains. Last summer we purchased and moved onto our bare land and are currently living in our home made cabin which has evolved from a shed to a barn to our cabin and future guest house. The foundation for what we now call "The big house" is dug and waiting for our next burst of energy! Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
