More Fraud From The USDA (NAIS)

Posted in Action Alerts

The USDA is making calls to individuals all over the country, and if you give them answers they are registering your home without your permission. Many of the thousands of farmers who the USDA claims have registered, did not give their permission. They just answered the questions. Be wary of any government agency calls. Don't answer questions and hang up.

From the nonais.org site:

"More Fraud From The USDA"

The USDA is claiming that farmers are voluntarily signing up for NAIS. The reality is that the state governments and the USDA are signing up farmers without their permission. NAIS is not being implemented as a voluntary program contrary to the claims in writing of the USDA. A while back the USDA called me and tried to get me to answer questions so they could sign me up for a Premise ID - a PIN as they call it in their Strategic Draft Proposal for NAIS. I refused.

Today I got a call from the government again and the woman wanted to give me my PIN number. I asked what this was about and she would not say. She just said she needed to give me my PIN number. I refused and hung up on her. Farmers and homesteaders in other states have had this same experiences with both the USDA and their state departments of agriculture signing them up without their permission and then calling it a voluntary signup.

Beware of the lies our government tells. A great many farmers on their "voluntary" signup list were not voluntary. Be careful of talking with government agents. This is not paranoia. The USDA and state governments are acting in an underhanded manner.

Now is the time to just say No to NAIS!

This is the USDA site for what they claim they're doing about NAIS:

Federal I.D. Numbers for Chickens?
S.S. # for your Horse?

What if you lost the freedom to own a horse?

What if you could be fined, have your horse taken from you, or even go to jail for not registering your farm and your pony? What if to own a chicken, goat, pig, sheep, horse or cow meant that you had to:
  • register your farm with the government,
  • acquire a national I.D. number for each animal,
  • pay to do these things,
  • or else, be in violation of federal government law?
  • Oh, yeah, if you take your horse somewhere for a trail ride, you'll have to report it to the government.
But they're not forcing anything, right? Isn't this is a purely voluntary system?

For now. By January 2008, though, if you've got an animal or farm, it better be registered or you'll be breaking the law if you own even one unregistered chicken. Why?

Their excuse is "disease prevention." The NAIS aims to track every animal to "maintain the health of the national herd". What "national herd?" What diseases?

  • There has been no Foot and Mouth Disease in the US for 70 years.

  • BSE (Mad Cow Disease) has not ever been contracted by a human. BSE will be   eradicated in this country within the next 15 years, without the NAIS.

  • Scrapie cannot be transmitted to humans.
The truth is that the National Animal Identification System isn't about preventing or controlling disease, it's about big corporate farms getting the government to protect them. From what? Lawsuits. If those farms can track the animals in their systems, they'll be able to protect themselves from lawsuits.

The NAIS will not protect you and it will cost you money. Besides, how many hundreds of years have we and our fathers and mothers had the God-given right to raise animals? Do you want your children to have that right, too?

Call your State Representative and demand your state draft legislation to protect you by not making this program mandatory.

Important News for Massachusetts and Surrounding Area Poultry Enthusiats!

Posted in Action Alerts

Two proposals have been submitted to the Department of Agricultural Resources that will greatly impact all poultry owners in Massachusetts and surrounding areas. One is "Poultry Keeping Guidelines" and the second is new Poultry Testing Fees. The fees proposed will be for any and all poultry that is transported off your property for all resons other than immediate slaughter. The testing would be for A.I. and Pullorum and required within 90 days of any transport. These fees would be very high for the average hobbyist and poultry keeper, especially for those who attend shows.

These are new "bandaids" proposed in kneejerk response to Avian Influenza concerns. These proposals are being backed by big commercial poultry businesses to their advantage and the rest of our expense. Avian Influenza has been discovered in commercial flocks and is found in wild bird populations, NOT in backyard flocks! So regulations like this will be ineffective for halting spread of any possible future outbreaks, and will only serve to further errode our heritage and hobby. Once again, as in other types of "feel good" legislation, it will only hurt and punish the average law abiding citizen and totally miss the true problem.

If you aren't in Massachusetts and don't think this will affect you, remember that laws imposed in one state are closely followed and many times adopted by other states. It was mentioned that other states are considering similar regulations. This issue concerns ALL poultry owners and enthusiasts in the U.S., from 4H and pet owners to folks selling eggs to bigger breeders.

For more information, to read the proposals and to find out who to contact to voice your concerns over this important matter, please visit the NEBC website at http://www.newenglandbantamclub.homestead.com/
