Report card day...

Today is the day, my kids get their report cards.... I already received Aaron's, I am a little upset, his reading scores are WAY LOW :(  Now, they told me earlier in the year that he needed help with this, they arranged to have him in a special class for a while during the day, I have worked as hard as I know how at home with him, I don't know what else to do :(  ALready they are saying they think he may need to redo Kindergarten :*(  I am so frustrated with this school, really.  I was wavering these last few days in my decision to Homeschool, I was thinking I couldn't do it.... thinking I would ruin them, but ya know what?  This has only added the needed ummpphh I needed, I WILL homeschool next year, I WILL, I WILL, I WILL!  Other than that, he did perfect in everything and is actually ahead in his Math scores... so I don't know what they are expecting from him, but you better be lieve I will be finding out!  Please send a few prayers up for me and my family, this is frustrating and irritating and I am at a loss as to what to do right now.  Thank you all!

Now on to better things, I made some more bread this week and I used 1/2 whole wheat and it turned out really well :o)  I some rolls and then put them in the freezer for dinners and such.  We got Ashley's hand me down furniture and we are trying to decded what color to paint it, she says all purple, I say purple with white drawers so we will let daddy break the tie :o)  Aaron is signing up for little league baseball on Saturday and Ash will be signing up for Girls fast pitch softball :o)  They are both excited!  And I am too, they do really well with sports!

Have a wonderful day and GOD bless!

2006-Jan-24 - reading

Maggie, I just bought my little boy boggle jr. It has really helped him! You might want to try it. Start with step one...you place the work cards where he can see the word and just tell him to spell it with the boggle blocks. That way he is just copying what he sees, but seing how the letters come together. Then step two is to just show the picture and hide the word so he can learn to spell it on his own. I just bought it yesterday and he has already improved today! I also bout 2 vidoes by leap frog... Letter Factory-prereading
and Code Word Caper-reading and sounding. My little boy watched them last night and already today he remembers the sounding and was able to read some new words today. Hope that helps! ~Shaundra

2006-Jan-24 - School Stuff

Posted by motherearth

You know what I've observed over the last few years of homeschooling and talking with other parents about homeschooling?
Kids all seem to follow a pattern, either they will grasp reading and be slower at picking up math or they grasp math and will be slower at picking up reading. And then after a few years it all levels out.

Hang in there.

Maggie- I totally understand. I am riding along in about the same boat . . . you can read it in some of my earlier posts. My kindergartener isn't getting what she "needs" either. And I WILL homeschool next year - both my girls!
Praying for you.

2006-Feb-5 - a little encouragement

Posted by Mara

I am in my first year of homeschooling and researched for 4 years (yea, thats right 4 yrs) before I finally gave in to the Lord. You just have to go for it. It's difficult but rewarding. I know that the best teachers are parents because we care whether they learn the stuff or not and better yet, we care what they learn. I will pray for you and you can blog me anytime for encouragement or what-have-you.
In Christ
