ISO Jelly Jars

Posted on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 09:01 in Kitchen Talk

I'm in need of some 4 oz Jelly Jars for making Christmas gifts of jelly.  Can't find them anywhere around here, just 8 oz jars.

Does anyone know of some good websites where I can find reasonably priced jelly jars with reasonable shipping?

Thanks!
Jamie

More Jelly Made

Posted on Friday, November 7, 2008 at 08:42 in Kitchen Talk

I canned 4 pints of Grape Jelly yesterday!  I didn't think the storebought bread would do it justice, so I used my bread machine to make one batch of dough, which I baked in the oven, and I used the machine to bake a second loaf of bread.  Oh, what a good treat that was.  I sent one loaf home with my daughter and grandchildren along with a jar of sandplum jelly that I had made monday.

Depression has hit in my kitchen

Posted on Friday, November 7, 2008 at 08:36 in Kitchen Talk

My dishwasher finally bit the dust yesterday.  She's over 13 years old and has lived a productive life.  She has helped me tremendously in my job as a housewife.  Over the past few months, she has been making some funny noises.  The noises have gotten louder and more annoying.  She just hasn't done a good job of washing the dishes in months (I have to practically handwash them all before loading).  I did one last load of dishes yesterday morning.  The moaning sounds of my dishwasher were horrible.  Later in the day I loaded her up again, turned the knob to start, and all she wants to do is fill up with water.

Now, she's an oversized dish drying rack.  Depression has hit my house - I now have to hand wash the dishes.  But hey, I'll survive, at least I don't have to haul in water from the creek and heat it over the wood burning stove.

Cinnamon Apple Jelly

Posted on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 09:05 in Kitchen Talk

Another great sounding recipe that I found here - http://www.homesteadblogger.com/mommaofmany that I just have to try.

Cinnamon Apple Jelly

4 cups apple juice
1/2 cup red hot candies
1 (1 3/4 ounce) package fruit pectin
4 1/2 cups sugar

Combine juice, candy and pectin in a large pot.   Bring to a full boil over high heat, stirring constantly.  Stir in sugar.  Return to a full boil.  Boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.  Remove from heat.  Skim off foam and any unmelted candy.  Pour hot liquid into hot jars, leaving 1/4 inch head space.  Adjust lids.  Process for 5 minutes in boiling water bath.

Yield:3 pints
