Homemade Linen / Room Spray

Posted on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 08:35 in Frugal Ideas

I got this email from Tipnuts.com yesterday and had to post the recipe!  You can get little spray bottles at Walmart in the sample sized bath and body section for about 50 cents (last time I checked).  You can make a large recipe of the linen spray and seperate it into these smaller bottles to give as Christmas gifts.

The Recipe
Makes 1 liter of linen spray

  • 2 tablespoons 100 proof vodka
  • 1 teaspoon jasmine oil and ½ teaspoon bergamot oil
    or
  • 1 teaspoon lavender oil and ½ teaspoon sandalwood oil
    or
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla oil and 2 drops ginger oil
  • 16- or 32-ounce bottle and sprayer
  • Distilled water

Mix the vodka and desired oils in a bottle. Add the distilled water until just full, screw on cap and shake to combine. (The alcohol helps disperse the oils evenly throughout the liquid.) Shake lightly before each use.

This recipe comes from http://www.hallmarkmagazine.com/ProjGiveItLinenSprays
You can get free labels for the above blends here: http://www.hallmarkmagazine.com/ProjGiveItLinenSprays

JASMINE BERGAMOT A heady combination of potent floral and clean citrus, this is a gift for your most romantic and flower-loving friends.

LAVENDER SANDALWOOD Help soothe stress with the relaxing scent of lavender, rooted in the earthiness of sandalwood.

VANILLA GINGER Give the comforting aroma of vanilla, spiced up with a hint of ginger, to welcome the chilly weather.

16 oz hot distilled water
1 ½ tsp rubbing alcohol

Heat water, mix in alcohol and away you go. Hot water works the best, but it will work with warm or room temp water. Of all the things I've tried this one has been the best.

Making a Coupon Organizer

What a neat idea I found here: http://pokeberrykitchen.blogspot.com/2008/02/coupon-sorting-mat.html .  When I have finished clipping my coupons, I sort them into piles according to how I'm going to organize them.  This coupon mat can be made easily, and stored with your coupons.  Take a look at the link above for a picture and ideas on making your own.
