Building a Fire Pit

Posted on Monday, March 31, 2008 at 04:13 in Outdoor Stuff

I have always enjoyed sitting around a campfire, roasting hots dogs and marshmallows & reminiscing.  I came across a pretty good sized amount of large rocks at a garage sale last summer, $5.00 for all of them!  So I bought them all, with the thought of building a fire pit with them.  I need to decide on the best spot to build this fire pit, and then get busy.  I got this email from Tipnut.com telling how to build a firepit (here).

Here are a couple of my favorite tips that I got from Tipnut about firepits:

  • A firepit should be placed at least 10 feet from the house and 3 feet from outdoor furniture.
  • At the bottom of the pit, dig a hole a couple feet deep - then fill it with gravel to keep rainwater drained.

Here is a fun campfire recipe (I remember making this one in girls scouts, I just don't remember if it was my girl scouts, or my daughters LOL).

I'll post a picture of our firepit once we get it built.  In the meantime, I'd love to see pictures of some of your firepits (for ideas).  If you have a picture posted on your blog, please sign my comments and leave the link to the picture.

Country Blessings,
Jamie
