How do you keep a dog from barking all night?

Posted on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 11:49 in In the Barnyard

Our new dog I posted about the other day.  She has started barking at night.  Last night, she barked for hours nonstop.  She does hear dogs barking from way down the road, and she hears coyotes sometimes.  There's got to be some way to stop her from the constant barking.  I know that going out and yelling at her isn't going to help, as it is just giving her attention.  She doesn't bark all day either, just mainly at night.  She's been spayed, and she is 1 1/2 to 2 years old.

I'd LOVE some advice on what to do to stop her from this, as I'm sure there are alot of you who have had to deal with this problem on your homestead.

Country Blessings,
Jamie

Honestly, when we had that problem with our dog, we had to get one of those shock collars. I hated it, but couldn't figure out what else to do. The good thing is that after just a couple of weeks of using it, he quit barking without it on. I hope this helps.

Some dogs experience separation anxiety. I know, I have one that would wimper terribly at NIGHT in her crate. We caved for the sake of getting our nights back to sleep. We just trained her on where she could be in the house. No problems now. She now only barks when someone new comes to the house and or a stranger walks by. (Which we want.) Through the years I have had foster dogs and or rescued ones and they seem to need a little extra attention, but have proven to be excellent pets in the long run. Good luck!
