A Little About OklahomaJamie

Posted on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at 11:18

I know that several of you already know me, but for those of you who don't, here goes.

I was born in a small town, and spent most of my younger years in that town. My mom and dad divorced when I was 5 or 6 years old and I lived with my mom & step dad until I was in 5th grade. I moved in with my dad and step mom in the middle of 5th grade. They lived on the 40 acres that sparked my love for the country life (though I didn’t realize that at the time). My grandparents also lived on that 40 acres. I watched my grandparents tending their large gardens never realizing that I’d share that love of gardening one day. I watched as my Grandma canned foods and filled the cellar. I learned a lot from my Grandma and I give her much of the credit for me becoming who I am today. Our family had several farm animals at different times. We had a few each of pigs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, horses, cows and rabbits. Of course there were dogs and barn cats too.

I moved back to town with my mom when I was 14. I just “had” to be near all my town friends. It wouldn’t be too long until I met my husband. He came here from California. He prayed at 18 years old that he would move to Oklahoma with his brother and sister in law, and that he would meet a nice country girl from Oklahoma. I was staying with my dad and step mom for the weekend, and went horse riding, and that’s when he spotted me. We soon were introduced, fell in love, and were married. We soon had our first child, a daughter. We lived in an apartment in town - hated it. An aunt was renting one of the houses on the 40 acres that I grew up on, and she was going to move. So, my husband, daughter and I moved back onto the family farm. We lived there until my grandparents lost the farm. Then back to town it was for 5 years. Couldn’t stand living in town, so we sold the house, bought a mobile home and moved it onto an acre of my dads 10 acres. We lived there for 10 years while praying for our own land (and had another child, a son, while there). Our prayers were finally answered the summer of 2006. An older couple from church offered to sell us 3 acres of their land.

We moved our mobile home here and are fixing up our property, slowly but surely. We will have our land paid off in less than 1 ½ years, and we plan to sell the mobile home (to be moved) and build our dream home - a dream I had since given up on while we were praying for our own land for so many years.

I’m so thankful to have our own ‘Place in the Country’. I’m anxious to get some farm animals, and to get more trees planted, flower gardens in, etc. I will share our progress here and I hope you enjoy reading about it.

Country Blessings,

Hiya! Thank you for visiting and commenting at my blog.
We, like you, have been dreaming and praying toward our move to the country, mainly because God put that dream in our hearts and minds many, many years ago. The house we're in now looks cozy, but looks are deceiving, ha. There are actually only 2 rooms and a bathroom. The whole back of the house is unfinished and not roofed. This place was started by someone else and it's our temporary home until we build our permanent one....just as you and your hubby. :)

~Peace,
Alie
